what if nothing had happened after the kiss? and ellie and riley were safe? or even better: what if ellie was bit and didn't realize it, so riley and her thought they were safe only to realize after that ellie is inmune when they see the bite in her arm fully healed. riley inmediatly wants to go to marlene, wants to make a cure, wants to save the world. ellie wants to go to fedra, wants to use the cure to get them (riley and her) a better life. they get into an argument, riley doesnt thinks is safe to go to fedra and viceversa, and ellie feels betrayed because she said she was going to stay. they end up going their separates sides. and you remember catra becoming force captain after feeling so hurt adora betrayed her? and adora having mixed feelings about turning against her best friend but she eventually does because of the "greater good"? yeah, everything stays pretty much the same except they are aged up and riley is a leader of the fireflies and instead of taking her to the fireflies, joel is taking her to fedra (as ellie has also become a general of fedra) and away from the fireflies, and there is this weird tension between ellie and riley everytime they meet. and then when they discover that ellie cannot survive to make a cure, riley wakes up joel and helps them escape

does this make any sense?? am i going insane?

The butterfly theme being all across Sarah's room and then in the first episode when they are in Joel's apartment and Ellie is sitting in the window and there is a butterfly on the curtain and in the second episode when Ellie is asleep a butterfly flies over her brainriot

And in a lot of Native American tribes butterflies simbolize transformation and comfort and hope !!!

And among the simbolisim of butterflies is an emblem of the soul and an unconscious attraction for the light (if you are lost, look for the LIGHT?!)

I think the whole Kathleen storyline was to show how revenge was not an Abby/Ellie theme, but a general thing that happened.

Kathleen (not personality wise) is very similar to both Abby and Ellie. When I was listening to her whole "Only when is you on this cage is okay but when it was my brother it was okay?" speech all I could thing was that this was a hint toward the tlou 2 Ellie plot. And how maybe this is to prevent people from villanaizing Abby/Ellie as crazy people and to show that this happens, this is a story about love in the middle of chaos, there is grief, there is anger, and everyone is corrupted in the apocalypse. If we are barely rational in the common world, when we have more tools to help us, when we dont have the need to murder and hurt people in order to survive in our everyday lives during our grief periods, who is to say what would we do in Abby's position? in Ellie's position?

I dont want to say in Kathleen's position because there is something really off about her to me, but i believe her character was to show something that we should remember when tlou 2 is adapted to tv: the love was there, it didnt change anything, but thr love was there

Did anyone noticed the parallels between Sara and Ellie this episode?

The most obvious one for me was how Joel reacted when they were being shot, telling her to put the seatbealt on, and get out of the car and dont get shot: it was the exact same order of things thay could've helped his daughter. The order of things that sentenced her.

But also in the first episode when Sara and Joel are watching the movie he says something among the lines "don't fall asleep" and she answers "and miss the movie?" and then there is a cut to her already sleep on Joel's legs. And in this episode Joel tells her that she can fall asleep if she wants, "i am not even tired" and then a cut to her asleep. And the whole scene prior to that one when they talk about family and Ellie questions him about being hopeless and he goes quiet and you can see his brain working, you can see him remembering the child he lost and the brother he has not seen in years. Family. His answers is family.

Which is why I think that there were also a lot of things (like the car scene) that were a direct parallel to whay happened with Sara but a contrast at the same time. Joel fixing his mistakes, while thinking about his daughter. Staying up all night after he promised Ellie that she would be safe, because he said the same to his daugther and he didnt manage to keep the promise, but he'll be dammed if he lets it happen again. He doesn't make empty promises, he will protect her.

And Sara and Ellie make very similar questions. While Sara is in the car running away from the infected she asks "We are not infected right? It only reaches people in the city right? How do you know we are not infected?" and in that scene Joel does his best to calm her down but he doesn't has the answers and he avoids the questions. Which is why when Ellie asks, looking for reassurance, "Nobody will find us?", he answers her. He makes sure he gives her the truth. Because he didn't give that to Sara. He couldn't keep her safe.

I could rant about how perfectly they are portraying Joel's and Ellie's relationship and how many parallels are between Sara and Ellie and how that affects the story (And I probably will) but right now im exhausted lol
