What is Andriea Denise's "Sweet Sleep" about?

It’s been a week since I released my new song “Sweet Sleep”, and while it has been received well, I’ve been getting the same question over and over. 

“Andriea, what is it about?”

Now, if you know anything about me, you know that EVERYTHING I do is with and for a purpose. And I’ve shared this explanation with people individually, but I thought it would be nice to share with you too.

So what is “Sweet Sleep” about? It’s actually about a couple of things. 

“Sweet Sleep” is a reminder of just one of the many promises God has given us. 

You know me (Ms. All About The Mindset)...I aim to teach in everything I do, and I am always focused on the mind. Throughout the lyrics, I present what we typically experience, what God has promised us, and what our usual response is. And of course, I don’t leave you hanging, I offer some advice which is ACCEPT THE DOGGONE PROMISE AND LIVE IN ABUNDANCE. Check out some of the lyrics below:

Here, I’m highlighting the ridiculousness of choosing to hold onto something that doesn't serve us, instead of accepting God’s promise of rest. Now that you see it, doesn’t it sound crazy to reject something as simple as sleep?

Take a look at the scriptures that I used to create this song.

“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.”

- Proverbs 3:24

“In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.” - Psalm 127:2

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28 Now, let's look at the 2nd thing "Sweet Sleep" is about.

“Sweet Sleep” is a short and sweet (every pun intended) lullaby. 

That’s right! I wrote a lullaby. This song was designed for you to put on repeat and to literally fall asleep. From the key of the song to the instruments used, the tone of my voice, the harmonies, and the lack of ad libs, you should find yourself relaxed and drifting off to a peaceful night’s sleep.

So there you have it. This is what my new song “Sweet Sleep” is all about. I hope you’ve been enjoying it, and maybe now you’ll enjoy it even more, knowing what it means. Of course, art is subject to the interpretation of the person experiencing it. But I gave you a peek inside the artist’s mind and process.
