WILD IF TRUE! Some youtube commenter is claiming Maddi, Rletto, and Serenity go through to the lives for team Chance. Which yay Maddi! I can relax. But also NO NADEGE???? How could that even be possible??

I had the third spot going to Rletto because Chance seemed to have a soft spot for him, but I thought Kyle deserved it based on past performances. But is it too samey to send Maddi, Nadege, and Serenity to the lives? Does The Voice care about team variety when the teams no longer matter in the lives? If it is too samey then are you knocking out Maddi (who's killed it every round so far and been used as the preview every previous round and is also apparently racking up the views on tik tok with her performances) or Nadege who killed it so hard she got the playoff pass (while singing her battle round with Maddi)? Like??? Impossible. Criminal. Maddi and Nadege HAVE to go to lives, so I guess Team Chance is sending the boys home on Monday ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Something that's been knocking around in my head for a while: I think a lot of new writers get thrown off by their assumption that writing will be anything like reading. Reading is a dreamy, passive experience--scenes, dialogue, and description flow over you as you are taken under the writer's spell. Writing, on the other hand (with the exception, sometimes, of the first draft), is the laborious, almost mechanical-like task of putting narrative elements together so that the reader can lose themselves in your story. In short, reading and writing are very different experiences, and the assumption that they will be, or even should be, the same, is cause for much angst among new and experienced writers alike. It's a frustrating thing, because a love of reading is usually what gets people interested in writing in the first place. I've been writing for several decades and I still feel confounded by this clash--it's part of why I don't read much when I'm deep into my writing, and vice versa. And when I am writing, I constantly have to remind myself: Writing is not watching a magic show. Writing is figuring out how to smuggle the rabbit into the hat.

Yesterday was an in-office day for work so I treated myself by checking out a new (to me) store. It was something called Ollie's which seemed to be like a more chaotically laid out Big Lots. But I found a gay basketball YA book for 4 bucks so it gets a thumbs up for me. 😁

the thing about tv!sally. the thing is. is that the flashbacks are so clearly from her perspective.

the reason people are claiming that sally would never yell at percy like in ep7 or that she would never show frustration with her child is that in the books -- and the beginning of the show -- we only ever see sally from percy's perspective. and in his eyes? she is an angel, the perfect mother who could never do anything wrong.

but the flashbacks in ep7 are not from percy's perspective, they're from sally's. and she remembers every bit of the difficulties and the frustrations and the almost insurmountable challenges that come with raising a neurodivergent child as a poor single mom, let alone raising a powerful demigod who attracts epic monsters that want to kill him. so yes, sally is, arguably, more 'human' in the show than the books -- because of course she is, when she isn't only ever seen through the eyes of her ride or die son.

I will defend book and tv sally jackson until my last breath and after
