#red dwarf #whats fucked up to me is that rimmer still wears his H after all this time #yeah okay it's JMC Regulation for holograms to wear H's #but we know he has no issue bending/breaking/ignoring rules and regulations that apply to himself & his hologramatic status #and in infinity welcomes careful drivers it's stated that holograms only have to wear H's to stop them being confused for the living #but everyone on red dwarf knows he's a hologram. so there's no risk of confusion #and he still wears it #he stopped wearing it when he became ace ofc to keep up the ace rimmer illusion & mythos but when he comes back his H does too #i think at first rimmer wore the H not only because it was regulation & he has a constant need to follow the rules #but also as a method of punishing himself/self deprecation #i mean how many times does he bemoan the fact the H stands for everything he hates about himself? #and i think over time it became less about that and more about fear that if he stopped wearing it the others would forget he was dead #and have an awkward 'oh...' moment when they remembered #or worse yet that if he didn't wear the H (especially after he became hard light) HE would somehow forget he was dead #and then be absolutely ruined when he'd be forced to remember #but now i think he just wears it because without it he's a rimmer who doesn't exist anymore. #a rimmer who died not only physically but metaphorically too as he changed and grew as a person and now the H is part of who he is #anyway sorry for being absolutely insane in the tags of ur gifset i'll go back to my padded cell now LMAO
