#TBT: Sunday, March 19, a moving funeral service was held for my friend and Albany blues musician, Charlie Smith. Smith died March 8 from complications of diabetes. He was super talented on the guitar and always had a lot of feel & emotion into what he performed on stage. I got to know Charlie on and off through my early adulthood & he was always kind to me in the scene. I’m thankful to have heard Charlie play the blues in the Capital Region & Bennington, V.T. and call him a friend. He impacted many musicians’ lives & is missed. #OnThisDate: Sunday, March 27,2022, my first stop of the morning was to Grafton Lakes State Park to attend “Maple Syrup Day”. I met with an acquaintance of mine who was reporting on this event for News10ABC. The majority of the event was held inside the welcome center. Guests could sample maple rice crispy treats, learn about the boiling of maple syrup, eat a maple donut and ice cream, & find out how the syrup is tapped from the tree. This was the first of two events I attended that day as in the afternoon I was at the Wynantskill American Legion attending the “Louie Louie” marathon. And how was my day a year later?! #OnThisDate: Happy #InternationalWomensDay & #WaybackWednesday!! Last year (3/8/2022), I spent my time in the City of Troy,NY watching “Warden And Company” perform their “Music at Noon” Concert Series at Troy Music Hall & attended the State of the County Address for Rensselaer County at the county building. At that time, I covered that event for my previous job. The event honored the achievements of Veteran Len Roden, recognized two Grafton residents for saving a Mother & Baby at Grafton Lakes State Park, among other county residents. Today on International Women’s Day (3/8/2023), I worked from home, took part in my Zoom piano lesson, & took a ride to the mechanic to drop off Dad’s truck for its inspection. #OnThisDate: Aren’t I glad I saved this quote from Instagram last year (3/4/2023)…The past week & a half has been difficult for me & I’m still processing things. Things at the new job are good & busy. This week was the 1st time in 7 years that a story of mine landed front page of TheSpot518 as a feature story!! Last Wednesday, I was let go from my social media managing position at my previous job. Management decided to handle that work themselves “in house”. This past Sunday (2/26/2023), I was stood up for the second time on a date by Rob Hasenbalg, and this time, it was at the Cheesecake Factory in Colonie Center. Never met up with me inside in person & didn’t return my calls either. I watched him outside drive away from his parking spot to head home!! I was pissed off, upset, and hurt from what he did, let alone,from Wednesday. I reached out to my close friend Ross to inform him what happened. He came to the restaurant to console me and ate dessert with me. Tonight 3/4/2023), my parents and I split a slice of cheesecake I bought that evening to eat for our dessert after attending Saturday afternoon mass. The lunch lady at the ES I attended gave Mom and I a bracelet to wear after mass. I’m still doing my best to process everything & my emotions have been all over the place. I also blocked him on everything too. Never apologized to me for his actions. Instead, sent me indecent photos of himself for me to share in a “story”. I didn’t do that & thus, I blocked him on his “Rob Hasinbog” account where you can see his crazy stuff. I may look too good for that MF to be unsure about me and NOT be a man to express emotions, and even though I remained honest, truthful, & did my best with past job, I deserve better in my life. I deserve someone who won’t stand me up, who truly respects me, loves me, and accepts me for who I am and my flaws. Thankful to now work at a place where I am respected, appreciated, and surrounded by positive people. I pray and desire happiness in my life & not disappointment by things that are way beyond my control. #OnThisDate: Hello March!! Please be a better month for me than how last month went in my personal life… Last year (3/1/2022), I ate breakfast at Duncan’s Dairy Bar with a client for a potential writing opportunity and picked up, I think, a hot Matcha Latte, at the nearby Dunkin’. Today in the mail (3/1/2023) came my first ever FRONT PAGE feature in TheSpot518!! Since I began contributing in 2016 had I never had a story of mine featured as a top story until now. This was one good piece of news I heard on Monday about this feature landing front page. The Art Associates Gallery Inc will have their art opening for “The Art of Photography” this upcoming Friday, March 3, & it features the talents of 24 Capital Region photographers. Monday, February 13,2023 is a day that my family & I will not forget. 11 years of life, 4 years combating diabetes & old age. My parents made the tough decision to have Sandy put to rest & cross the Rainbow Bridge at Brunswick Veterinary Hospital Monday afternoon. Sandy was having difficulty standing on her own,her sugar levels had gone from being real high to real low, & was also battling other health issues. It reached a point where she knew she had reached the end of her days. She gave it a fight, and she loved us with all her might until the rightly end. She was a special dog to us & our other animals & she is hugely missed. We loved her very much & her passing has hit us hard. Valentine’s Day, Dad laid Sandy to rest in our yard, surrounded with the things she loved while she was with us. This holiday is a double whammie with both her burial & with the passing anniversary of an uncle who moved on exactly 11 years ago. My holiday was spent a short time at work, running errands, getting the usual holiday self-care ice cream, visiting a friend who’s retiring this Friday, & mourning Sandy’s passing. Thank you Brunswick Veterinary Hospital for all the work you’ve done for the past four years for Sandy & for being present with my parents during that difficult moment. Thank you to the few friends who sent this single girl her Valentine’s Day greetings & gave their condolences. Please respect our privacy & thank you, Sandy, for what you brought to us in your lifetime. We love you and miss you girl. These first two weeks working at Spotlight News/TheSpot518 have been good. I learned how to copy edit, conduct research for story ideas, learn more about the Town of Colonie that I’ll also conduct stories for in addition to my arts coverage, and learned how to preview Town board agendas & turn them into mini stories. This is the first time I’ve done a preview like this for any newspaper I’ve worked for. It’s a process that’ll take time to know and understand but at least it’s a start. #SundayThrowback:Friday, January 20,2023, retired corrections officer, Robert “Bob” Patrick, retired from Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department. A walkout retirement ceremony was held to honor Patrick after 22 years of service! Patrick was surrounded by co-workers, family, friends. He was awarded his certificates from Patrick Russo & PJ Higgitt and took part in his final radio call in his career. Congratulations again Bob on your retirement! Enjoy your much deserved time off. Hello February!! It’s a new month with new beginnings!! Monday, January 30 was my first official day of work at Spotlight News/TheSpot518. I edited paper drafts, filled out paperwork, & yesterday, discussed what I’ll cover for my first assignments before I was sent along my way. Early portion of week will be office time. Remaining week is remote & community (while on assignment). Everything is going well so far & I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes in this new career move. It’s taken me 7 years to go from contributor to full-time employee & it’ll be exciting to see what I’ll do & discover the stories that need to be told through my lens. Hello Everyone!! Amy here!! I have something to share with you concerning my career. After five years of serving as reporter, social media manager, sales ad rep, office assistant, newspaper distributor, and arts & music reporter, it is, how I stated it….”Time For A Change”. Thursday, January 26,2023 was my FINAL day of work at “The Eastwick Press”. I accepted a FULL-TIME reporter position at Spotlight News/TheSpot518. I am also going to focus on another creative endeavor I accepted outside the new position. I begin the full-time gig January 30. I will still remain “on hand” as social media manager for Eastwick Press. #OnThisDate & #NYE2022: Happy New Year’s Eve everyone!! Thank you for your follows & support in 2022. Cheers to a much improved 2023 that I hope and pray will bring me true love (a man who TRULY loves and respects me for who I am), more focus on myself and the things I want to achieve in both my career and personal life, prosperity, and happiness. 2022 for me has seen it’s fair share of good moments, struggles, and even strange viral moments and I hope and pray that 2023 will be an improvement!! Last Year’s New Year’s Eve (12/31/2021) celebrations included getting my Covid booster shot, eating lasagna and having a celebratory drink with musician friends & family at a friend’s house, and hanging out with my pets watching the ball drop on TV. Merry Christmas Eve & Happy Hanukkah to all those who celebrate during this festive season!! I am SO glad to officially be on holiday break from “The Eastwick Press” as of yesterday…!! The December 23 & December 30,2022 is our FINAL two editions of 2022 so be sure to purchase your newspaper or get an online subscription to read your County news. This double edition in particular features my story on the “First Ever Lansingburgh Christmas Parade” and tree lighting ceremony (Occurred on Saturday, December 10,2022). It’s been quite some time since the City of Troy,NY and Lansingburgh held any kind of parade, let alone, a holiday parade until a few weeks ago!! This was a special moment to attend this holiday season and see the community come together to join in on the holiday fun!!
