Cornelius leaned closer and rested his arm on the back of the driver's seat, held Finlay’s dark and frightened gaze. “I understand,” he said. He rested his other hand on Finlay’s knee, where Finlay might feel its weight but no one else could see it. “But what men do in their own homes should be left private.” He waited for Finlay’s tiny nod of reply. When he pulled away, Finlay exhaled as if he hadn’t breathed the whole time Cornelius was touching him. Cornelius got out of the car and crossed the street without looking back.

The most delightful thing about writing Cornelius is that he doesn't think of himself as hot at any point. However, he knows that people want to fuck him and he knows how to positively manipulate them. So he's going around making intense eye contact and leaving little touches and making a bunch of repressed rich people beg him to pay attention to them. And that's charisma baby :)

A current WIP

I and my fellow Viable Paradise alums put together an anthology of SFF stories! We kickstarted it and it will go to print this summer. I'm so proud of it, mostly because of all the incredible work everyone else has put in. The editors have been kind and thoughtful and helped me make my somewhat chaotic story into a beautiful gut punch.

The theme is "New Year New You," and it has all kinds of weird magic and science and space to explore. My story is about Persephone and growing up and seasonal depression and how delicious pickles are.

When the earth ruptured and Hades dragged her down, she fought the way the young fight aging, the way a warrior fights death. Remember the Greeks on the wine dark sea, remember the sea they loved could drown them. Persephone, too, drowned. Her husband’s arm was an anchor and her chiton was a heavy weight. Rich black earth filled her lungs, she tasted loam and copper on her tongue. When she landed in the underworld, she could neither see nor hear. Everything had a sheen of unreality, bleached of color and sound and joy. Pity her, of course. Pity all young girls, forced into an adulthood that had always seemed eons away, suddenly caught in the river of time. Never again would her joy be uncomplicated. Always, there would be darkness on the edges, a promise that life would turn and turn.

if you want to actually start to end homelessness, you need to give homeless people unconditional homes, including when we use them to do drugs or sit around drinking. either housing is unconditional or it isn’t

someone sitting at home alone, an active alcoholic, squandering your charity, drinking all day is better situation than a street homeless alcoholic. someone using drugs in your charity house is better than them doing the same w no shelter

most of you would not like most street homeless people, I definitely don’t and didn’t when I was street homeless. for every one person who uses unconditional shelter to turn themselves around, someone else will do jack shit and very slowly, if ever, work through the issues that made them homeless, will maybe never be able to live independently. still better than street homelessness, still worth doing. ultimately either you believe that shelter should be universal or you don’t

homeless people actually can’t be rehabilitated if you want to end homelessness. we either affirm the right to shelter for the worst drunken, lying, filthy, cheating, self destructive homeless people that exist, genuinely irredeemable wankers, or we concede that shelter is not a right

You are so nice for giving me an opportunity to share something about my WIPs but I feel like I've done nothing but talk about Compass for two years so now I'm sitting here wondering what else I could possibly say about it, especially to you.

I put Gavin POV into the last draft which means I had lots of space to roll around in his self loathing. Have a bit that made me so sad and also chew the furniture.

It had been Gavin who did the leaving, looking out for himself instead of Neal. They'd been young together, chasing stars, until Gavin had grown too tired of the uncertainty and sought out the steady work of a hunter. Neal had shone, like he always did, and by the time Gavin had returned from training Neal had a rich lover to take care of him and his eyes on the Stone of Scone. Gavin had never been worth Neal's notice. He'd never been the kind of man that was easy to love. He'd thought Neal wanted people like Elsie, warm and funny and educated, so he stayed out of Neal's way. He'd never guess Neal might resent him for it.

I went to the year round outdoor market yesterday and wandered around all day, so I had masala chai, an amazing raspberry coconut cookie, and a chicken mushroom humbao.

It's finally strawberry season, so I have a pound of those in my fridge for later ^_^

no more cold and calculating i want warm and calculating. i want characters who use deductive reasoning to figure out whether their friend would like a wool or cotton quilt based off of their lifestyle, career, hobbies, and habits. i want "your nails are often chipped because you work for a law firm as a typist for this company which notoriously underbudgets their IT department, so ive bought you a keyboard cover that will not only prevent manicure damage but is also sensory friendly because I know you dislike certain clicking noises". i want characters who figure out their friends entire schedules and social battery levels just by examining who only use that info to know when the best time is to hang out with them. i want characters who create elaborate, supervillain level schemes just to get their hands on some collectible they know their best friend wants. most of all i want characters who do not use intelligence and reasoning skills as a reason to be cruel but as a means to be kind

ngl i get that people hype up hating writing for the bit but like. idk. yall i Do actually really like writing. it is so satisfying and fun and rewarding and i get to look back what i made over and over again and get joy every single time.

yes writing is hard but if you hate it more than you love it im kinda like. idk. find another hobby?
