This is Laslin (she/her), protagonist of The Mountain God Sleeps On Its Back. She is an autistic trans woman (and a lesbian!), and later in life found out she is also the god of this age, the one born every 200 years and destined for an immortal life of service to humanity. The books goes on to describe her journey after meeting a woman who would become a very special companion on her travels.

She also has a giant lizard.

so don’t get me wrong because a lot of arthurian stuff is super misogynistic. but it’s never really in the damsel in distress way you expect. like the most helpless damsel is lancelot trapped and crying in a tower, completely useless, until this random girl who made him behead a guy in front of her fifty pages ago rolls up with a pickax and rope and is like “ok I’m minecrafting you out of here.” and this works.

Reis (they/them) is an agender lesbian pirate from the Dragonoak trilogy, making their first appearance in the second book and remaining an important character throughout. They are another example of a character of Sam’s who has had top surgery, though because of the dangerous life they lead their scars are a bit messy as they were not afforded the luxury of six weeks of gentle recovery.
