The Trial of Sisyphus
This clock starts to shudder;
the sinews of my skin shred silently
as the hands of Time resist my every advance.
Teeth clench, and dreams burst like bladders
filled with blood, submerging us up to our lungs
to the erratic whims of time.
Never so quickly have I started slowing down,
and ever so slowly, my impatience is speeding around
the stasis that is waiting for that 26th reincarnation.
Barely older and no wiser, but wise enough
to read the sell-by that expires a year from now--
only lasting this long because it stayed frozen for the first 25.
Homes have long-since felt like chains and
more is said in dead silence met with shifting gazes
than this dehydrated mannequin has heard since reaching adulthood.
These dreams? These faces? These buildings made of memories
seem monochrome when compared to what lies in the distance.
And so I grip the hands of the of the stubborn clock
and keep pulling along the stasis.
