No, Mr. Horse, donāt worry, I certainly donāt have a Plinko down here! What I do have is this lovely cask of wine, specifically for horses, Amontillado in fact! Exquisite vintage.
I know youāre not supposed to be in this hospital, but if youāll just follow me down this corridorāno, thatās not blood on the floor, itās color theory, Iāll explain it laterāI can bring you to this cask of wine that is certainly NOT a plinko machineā
it's funny how someone can say things like... i don't know... that they understand how much they've hurt people around them, and want to do better.
or that they can straight up admit that their reflexive reaction to being called an asshole when they're being an asshole has been to throw out accusations of bigotry, because it's the only defense they can think of.
maybe that they claim to understand and be better at managing the things that led to being aggressive and toxic to the people around them.
and so on.
insisting that they want to change, that they're working on changing, that they have changed.
...and then continue the same patterns of behaviour.
I have never read these, but the name sounded familiar- after doing a quick Google for the cover art? Yeah, these were in the school library at my school.
... Then again, maybe I shouldn't be surprised to learn about there being books with sex in them on those shelves, considering they had most of the Culture books, too, heh.
every time I talk about these books I get several people telling me that they too were precocious history loving tweens who, after first reading Clan of the Cave Bear, innocently picked up the next book in the series having no idea it was 80% thrilling stone age adventures and 20% explicit romance novel style sex. It seems to be a common experience for a certain subset of bookish millennials to have been mildly scarred at a too-young age by that scene in The Mammoth Hunters, lol
What weāve gotta understand is that āthe modern Internet is abolishing spaces for adultsā and āthe modern Internet is abolishing space for childrenā are compatible phenomena. Neither group is being favoured: the modern Internet is abolishing spaces for adults (i.e., because grown-up topics arenāt advertiser friendly) and the modern Internet is abolishing spaces for children (i.e., because online communities which consist principally of people who have no money are hard to sell things to). The Internet that contemporary corporate interests are trying to build isnāt a space for anyone ā itās the digital equivalent of an Ikea showroom.
