The great doors slammed to. Boom. The bars of iron fell into place inside. Clang. The gate was shut. Sam hurled himself against the bolted brazen plates and fell senseless to the ground. He was out in the darkness. Frodo was alive but taken by the Enemy.

'We will have peace,' said Théoden at last thickly and with an effort. Several of the Riders cried out gladly. Théoden held up his hand. 'Yes, we will have peace,' he said, now in a clear voice, 'we will have peace, when you and all your works have perished – and the works of your dark master to whom you would deliver us. You are a liar, Saruman, and a corrupter of men's hearts. You hold out your hand to me, and I perceive only a finger of the claw of Mordor. Cruel and cold! Even if your war on me was just – as it was not, for were you ten times as wise you would have no right to rule me and mine for your own profit as you desired – even so, what will you say of your torches in Westfold and the children that lie dead there? And they hewed Háma's body before the gates of the Hornburg, after he was dead. When you hang from a gibbet at your window for the sport of your own crows, I will have peace with you and Orthanc. So much for the House of Eorl. A lesser son of great sires am I, but I do not need to lick your fingers. Turn elsewhither. But I fear your voice has lost its charm.'
KING.

The fact that Orlando Bloom (Legolas) and Andy Serkis (Gollum) both said that they based their performances in Lord of the Rings off of cat behavior really shows you the sheer range of what cats are like

Every now and then I get asked about ships, and I usually avoid the question both because I think it's obvious what will win and because "ship wars" just aren't fun. But, fine. Just this once, in honor of Valentine's Day, ~let the ship wars rage~. Hopefully no one sails too far west and triggers the sinking of Númenor.

'You may learn something, and whether what you see be fair or evil, that may be profitable, and yet it may not. Seeing is both good and perilous. Yet I think, Frodo, that you have courage and wisdom enough for the venture,'
Interesting that Galadriel doesn't say 'may be good or perilous' but rather 'is good and perilous'
Maybe it comes to the same thing, or maybe not. Perilous does not mean doomed. Whether the venture is helpful or not is not dependent on what he sees being fair or evil.
It 'may be profitable' for him to learn something. Not only is she saying 'I can't tell you what you will see,' she's also saying 'I can't tell you how you will react to what you see.' Even if she knew I don't think she would tell him... but my point is she, in all her wisdom and power, cannot entirely predict what this little hobbit will do.
The only nudge she gives him is to share her faith in his fortitude and honestly that's sweet
The whole scene with the mirror is a big blaring spotlight on the Big Theme of Choice. And it's hammered out even further when the fellowship is deciding what to do.

They were in a deep lane between the ends of the wall, and passing quickly through it they entered the City of the Trees. No folk could they see, nor hear any feet upon the paths; but there were many voices, about them, and in the air above. Far away up on the hill they could hear the sound of singing falling from on high like soft rain upon leaves.
*Sigh* so who wants to recreate this with me? We'll need between 20 and 100 people...
Beside [the Mallorn] a broad white ladder stood, and at its foot three Elves were seated. They sprang up as the travellers approached, and Frodo saw that they were tall and clad in grey mail, and from their shoulders hung long white cloaks.
So the wardens wear white, which I can't help but notice is the opposite of camouflage in a forest. I guess if you get as far as the Great Mallorn without being detained by the various elves running around, you're either not a threat or those white cloaks are your last warning, like tree frogs lol

'O Kheled-zâram fair and wonderful!' said Gimli. 'There lies the Crown of Durin till he wakes. Farewell!' He bowed, and turned away
'There lie the woods of Lothlórien!' said Legolas. 'That is the fairest of all the dwellings of my people. (...) My heart would be glad if I were beneath the eaves of that wood, and it were springtime!'

The air was cool and soft, as if it were early spring, yet they felt about them the deep and thoughtful quiet of winter. It seemed to them that they did little but eat and drink and rest, and walk among the trees; and it was enough.

Legolas was away much among the Galadhrim, and after the first night he did not sleep with the other companions, though he returned to eat and talk with them. Often he took Gimli with him when he went abroad in the land, and the others wondered at this change.
