She couldn't remember the last time she had danced so hard. Of course, this was the festival Holi, so Elia expected to come home with sore feet and a painted mess. But man, did she have so much fun this year. She had not a care in the world here, and the air was charged with the exuberance of the crowd. Even now, as the crowds started thinning, they could still feel it. With such an atmosphere, it's not hard to forget when you get tired.
Elia realized it, and it hit her like a bag of bricks. Her panting was soft, and her legs felt heavy. If Rhae wasn't still holding her, she would've sank to the ground. But even so, she still had a chuckle left in her, tired as it sounded. "I'm exhausted. A break sounds good right now." she answered. Her hands were still placed on his shoulders, but she was too tired to move them anywhere else for the moment. Hopefully he didn't mind too much.
Tumblr media
"We should probably pick a spot to settle down. You choose this time, since I dragged you down last time." she said, trying to be fair. Fun as this was for her, she couldn't have picked a better partner this time around. Maybe that was part of the reason why it was so. "But look at you going out there having fun! You really were on a roll."
o, holi night ☸elia
“Is that all it is?” He chuckled, trying to follow her lead. If anyone who knew him at home saw him… he’d never hear the end of the jokes. Surely no one he knew expected him to be much of a dancer. In a way, it was freeing. He didn’t have to care what others thought. Elia was new, a complete stranger, and it was thrilling to dance with her. To be someone new, someone different. Someone exciting.
He wasn’t the greatest, but it didn’t matter. They just had fun, and that’s all it took. They became a part of the collective. A brightly colored, shifting, cheering, singing organism. A great consciousness in festivity. “Well! I am certainly trying!” He laughed, feeling a little like she was probably making fun of him. He didn’t care in the slightest.
Hours could have passed, just like that. The afternoon became evening as they lost themselves to the excitement. For a time, Rhae was just another thread, a part of a great tapestry. He was a far cry from the callow man he always became in London.
When the crowd began to thin, he started to realize how exhausted he was, and how much time had passed. “Are you tired?” He asked her, his arms still around her. “Should we take a break?”

Her smile turned into a grin of victory, pleased with herself that she got a foreigner to dance with her on this night. Not to mention that she would teach him a step or two as the lively crowd danced around them in celebration. This would be easy to do, Elia had thought.  As he brought her in close, she looked up and placed her hands on his shoulders. "Okay, try to have a little bounce on your feet." she said. "We'll move together."
Tumblr media
Time was not wasted as they moved together, with Elia first taking it slow so that he could catch on. She herself wasn't the best dancer in the world, but who was in this celebration? Skill didn't matter in the slightest. With the crowd's cheers and praises, and every adult and child dancing with such liveliness, Elia lost herself in the atmosphere. She eventually forgot about teaching and starting enjoying herself. She couldn't help it!
Moments passed before she started to notice him again, just as in it as she. "Hey, you're getting the hang of it!" she complimented after she laughed.
o, holi night ☸elia
“Yes! Tomatoes.” He had to laugh, charmed by the surprise on her face. “It sounds less fun than it is.” As they fought their way through the crowd, he put his arm around her to keep anyone from hassling her. He knew what people all over the world were capable of when such chaos and excitement ran rampant, and he didn’t want anyone lifting any kind of unkind hand to such a nice woman.
Once they had found their place, he resumed holding her hand again. As the fires were lit, his eyes went wide with wonder, just gazing at how beautiful it was. For how many years had he been taking adventures like these? He still had not found what he was really looking for, but it didn’t stop him from feeling like in moments such as these that something metaphysical had transpired. That maybe there were gods out there, perhaps not Krishna or Allah or a single Great Consciousness, but it was something profound.
Tumblr media
Distracted from his reverie, he turned to her and blinked a few times. “But I don’t know how to—” The moment he caught her eyes, and her smile… he folded. He was normally awfully stubborn when he took a stance, but she somehow wormed her way through that tough exterior. He blamed her eyes, and how happy she looked. Those dark eyes caught the firelight, and they seemed so alive.
“Show me.” He agreed, turning to face her and slinging an arm around her waist, pulling her in close. It wasn’t hard to let himself lose any inhibitions here, just like everyone else. When the crowd was full of such exuberant energy, even he was swept away.

She looked back at the painting for another moment, listening to the woman's insight with a smile on her face. Such a good opinion on a painting, Elia surely doesn't hear too many of those often, much less have a conversation about it. That aspect made it refreshing to her of course, but imagine her delight now! As she kept her eyes on the swan painting, Elia could really see what she meant by impacting everyone differently.
Tumblr media
Elia faced the woman again and kept her smile, and even chuckled a bit at her comment. "If it's any comfort, I barely know anyone here! Though out of everyone here you're making my day the most right now." she replied. Meeting a woman with similar views on art would make anyone's day, especially on a day like this with suits who would either rather be somewhere else or being so serious it wears down the atmosphere. No offense to her colleagues of course.
She nodded as she shook her hand in return. "I'm Elia. A pleasure to meet you too, Melisandre." she said. Taking a small sip of wine, Elia took a moment to take a look back at the small crowd of people behind them in small curiosity. "Which group of people are your associates? I know there's a lot that turned up at this gathering." she asked.
display °— elia & melisandre.
Melisandre listened attentively, and while the woman spoke she would watch the painting, and she nodded slowly, agreeing with her completely. “Yes, absolutely. It is deeply realistic but it has such beautiful colors and the different shades of blue and red and white are just spectacular, don’t you think? The symbolism is very meaningful but at the same time I think it speaks to everyone in a different way, that’s what makes me like it so much. I get different feelings every time I look at it. It’s just such a wonderful painting, the best one in this gallery, beyond doubt.” She liked exchanging opinions on art with other people, but usually she found herself talking with people that had no idea what art was, that didn’t understand a single thing on the subject, and would agree with everything she said. It would drive her mad, but she couldn’t simply say that out loud, so she smiled and nodded and told each one of them how happy she was that everyone agreed with her. Such idiots. But the Martell girl really knew what she was talking about, and it was nice, for a change.
Tumblr media
She smiled at her. “I like to believe I am, art is a passion of mine since I was very young. It is but a pleasure to be speaking to someone that likes it as much as I do. We have never met, yet I like you more than half of the people that are attending this exhibit, and I know most of them from at least a year.” Melisandre winked at her, not caring if anyone had heard that. “The funny thing is, I don’t even know your name! I am Melisandre, lovely to meet you.” She said, extending her hand. “And you are?”

"That's good to hear. Then let's just jump to the when's and where's for the meeting time." she said, walking back behind her brother's desk to gather the information he had written down for her. Besides the things that she needed to dish out for the other appointments for today, the desk looked more untouched than not. The last thing that she wanted to do was mess up her brother's stuff upon his return.
"The events that the company is hosting lasts for about three days, and your first meeting time is about six hours from now. Each meeting time is the same for the duration of that event. The rest you already know." she explained.
Tumblr media
"That'd be all for basic explanations. Though, six hours is a very long time to wait until your job starts. I'd suggest taking a quick tour of New Delhi to familiarize yourself. It'll make it easier for you to move around." Delhi was, after all, a big metropolis. It would be easy to get lost if you didn't know where you were going. And on the bright side, it was also one of those cities where it'd be fun to explore. "...or maybe you could catch up on sleep before the jet lag catches up to you?" she then said, a small smile tugging on her lips.
place the job °— jaime.
“No need to apologize.” Having grown up in the business world, he’d grown used to such things, his mother and father having to attend conferences, and canceling out on some things that involved the children, as well as clients. In the end, he’d gotten over the disappointment, and found it didn’t matter to him. So long as a meeting was to be had, Jaime was content.
Tumblr media
When he spoke, his tone was level and polite, and he thanked her for what seemed to be concern over his flight. “The flight was rather uneventful overall, but I did manage to sleep through part of it.” Likely soon the time differences would hit him, and hit him hard, but for now he found himself unweary, for the most part. He accepted the folder with a smile, and only glanced at it’s contents, finding them acceptable before he looked up at Elia once more. He’d known most of the details of the job beforehand when he’d spoken with Doran through email, and none of what he was seeing now was new to him. “I do believe I understand fully what is required of me,” he replied.

She looked down at his bag, seeing the water bottle that he was taking out for the taste of perfume. Bitter and salty was really not a combination to let yourself taste, so Elia was really glad that he had water with him. Though, he could really use it more. He took more of the brunt of that last powder throw than she did.
Nevertheless, she did take the bottle when he offered and smiled as thanks. But she didn't expect him to brush off clumps of wet powder from her face again. Either he was very clean or he was very touchy-feely. Somehow, Elia found herself caring less about that. Maybe because he was being so nice. Or maybe it was the festivities keeping her upbeat. Either way, there was something there.
Elia took a sip of water from the water bottle and began to rinse the taste of perfume out of her mouth. As she spat it out discreetly, she caught the tail-end of that sentence. "Tomatoes?" she said in surprise. It probably did smell horrible, and must be a terror to wash out. Where exactly does this guy do to see so many places and do so many things?
Smiling, Elia nodded as his offer and took his hand to guide him to a close seat by the bonfire so that he could see it. She practically had to race for a good spot, but that made it all the more fun. And besides, it was good to have company.
Tumblr media
The light of the bonfire seemed to reach towards the sky when lit, and the plaza came alive with praises and cheers, and the folks that were sitting down rose up to dance and cheer. Laughing as she looked around, Elia wanted to join in. But surely she couldn't dance alone in the crowd! "Rhae, we should dance too." she suggested.
o, holi night ☸elia
The two just shared their laugh amidst the press of people, sharing their own private moment in a sea of colorful, singing, dancing, celebrating human beings. It wasn’t hard to enjoy himself, to forget that melancholy that had always tainted his soul when he stayed home too long. He ran his hand through his own hair, as if it helped matters any.
“Elia.” He repeated back to her. She definitely looked like an Elia. He pulled a plastic water bottle from the bag he had kept at his side, handing it over to her first. “To wash out the powder.” He explained, before he brazenly reached out to brush the clods of powder that had stuck to her pretty face. “The pleasure is all mine.”
Tumblr media
Glancing around as he let her rinse out the taste, he smiled from ear to ear. “If you think this is wild, you ought to see La Tomatina in August. Instead of powder, you’re hit with tomatoes. It smells horrible but it’s… it’s freeing.” He realized he was speaking in English too much and switched back to her tongue.
“Come, let’s sit together for the fire.” He said, glad to have company. Usually he liked to assimilate into familiarity with the locals where he went, but there was something he liked about her, and it couldn’t just be her smile.
