Vicious, Delicious, and Ambitious : 20th Century Women Artists by Sheeri Cullison I love the review by Annie Tucker in Juxtapoz magazine. Her words still feel relevant today. "At worst aggressively uninvited, and at best asked to enter quietly through the back door, women artists wanting to leave permanent marks on the lowbrow legacy really have had no choice but to simply barge in. And barge they have, as Sherri Cullison's new book, Vicious, Delicious, and Ambitious : 20th Century Women Artists, jubilantly confirms. The book celebrates 20 women artists who have succeeded in breaking through the proverbial glass ceiling, wearing fishnets and leaving lipstick marks on the walls on the way up. Unlike in other publications forced to rely on a strong layout to carry the visuals, the artwork in Vicious would look as good in a burlap sack as it does in this evening gown of a collection. Cullison has done a terrific job both organizationally and creatively , providing answers to reader's burning questions about these heroines with extensive biographies on each woman, accompanied, of course, by a glorious sampling of red-hot imagery. Cullison's pioneeresses prove unapologetically that women can be into tattoos and hot rods and pin-ups in a way that enhances their femininity. It's a lesson that's way overdue." https://www.instagram.com/p/CI8XUiXFQ44/?igshid=jssddpg6nos3

Work in progress in the studio today. I've been slowly chipping away at several big projects at the same time. I always have many things going at once. It helps me get things done since I can't concentrate any one thing for very long. It also is probably a good idea for me phsyically, to change tasks, change position, change the muscles I'm using, even the brain muscle! I can't wait to show you what I'm using these for! Are you ready for the holidays? Are you hanging in there? How are you coping this dark winter season? https://www.instagram.com/p/CI0-aXXlnO2/?igshid=1ry9r46wkenmq

I've put this painting up in my shop for a limited time. A special offer 300 dollars until the end of the year. Then in goes up to 300 euros. (363 Dollars). It's been a difficult year for everyone finacially, especially independent workers. Try to support individuals and small businesses this holiday season. 30cm by 42cm or 12inches by 17 gauche and watercolor on heavy watercolor paper. In my shop. https://www.instagram.com/p/CIvv-x-FJot/?igshid=1qrs7li1pnhtz

Edith Burchett was the wife of tattoo artist George Burchett. In 1913, after the 4th of 6 children she finally agreed to be tattooed by her husband. Because George was well established and experienced by the time he tattooed her, he was able to plan her collection, it was a project much more cohesive, organised and planned out than most people would collect their tattoos. At that time he could study all the other full body collectors, like some of the ladies I’ve written about in this series. How they were arranged and how he could improve on those who went before. Her tattoo collection included serpents, a Geisha, an Indian, a crucifixion scene, a red dragon, and copies of old master’s paintings. She had tattooed the WW1 allied flags on her breast. Mr. Burchett was popular for a while with the upper crust of English society. After Japan opened up to Occident ; it was sailors and the wealthy that could travel there. Many were fascinated by the tattoo culture and came back deccorated. This in turn created a fashion back home. In 1923 the discovery of a tattooed Egyptian princess started a fad with society ladies to get tattooed. George made 2 life size portrait paintings of Edith. I could only find one. There is a memoir of George Burchett “Memoirs of a Tattooist” edited by Peter Leighton. It was published in 1958 by Oldbourne Book Company and includes photographs illustrating some of his tattoo designs. There is a more recent book by Jon Reiter, The King of Tattooists. Edith got more modest as she got older, and started to cover up her tattoos with her clothes. She was never on display like circus attractions, so we don’t know much about her. She was a sort of showcase of her husband’s work, a business card for him. All of my other articles about tattooed women in the circus can be found on my blog under the catagory « tattoo history » #sideshow #handpokedtattoo #tattoohistory #maudwagner #heroesoftattooing #tattooedlady #tattooedwoman #circushistory #americanhistory https://www.instagram.com/p/CIGejL6l0kh/?igshid=15fiwl5e4nhux

I'm going to blow up in Korea! K-pop mega star Taemin filmed his latest video in Paris. A touristy video diary, of a young man under the influence of the gloriously romantic city of light. He passes through our local rock n roll record shop, Born Bad. You can see on the wall behind him the shop's logo, which I designed. There is already 1 million views on YouTube! Cute, sweet images of Paris. This young man is quite beautiful, I'd like to see him in drag! #taemin #paris #bornbad @bornbad_recordshop #kpop https://www.instagram.com/p/CIBgbrPFVui/?igshid=1u10firz45ium

Hello ! And welcome to my new followers. Let me tell you a little about myself. I've been making a living as a tattoo artist for 28 years now, and a lot of people only see me only as a tattoo artist. But I do so much more. I paint, make objects, do performances, make videos and I want to create installations and immersive experiences. That's why I wrote in my bio, «On a path of evolution, watch me!»Transformations are painful. But they are necessary. What do I want to transform into? I want to be showing in museums, public art spaces & site-specific art spaces. Making installations and immersive theatre and/or VR. I want to give lectures or participate in conferences at Universities, about the history of tattooing, my journey, and underground art movements. I've made so many of my dreams come true in the past. Learned to tattoo Photographed by Pierre et Gilles Moved to France, learned French A few years ago, I was feeling stuck and I started to make an inventory about the dreams I still have. One of those dreams is going to art school, getting an MFA. Another dream is to push myself as far as I possibly can as an artist. To explore deeper waters. I discovered some HUGE desires. Then comes the question: what is stopping me? What am I afraid of? Why are these crippling family conflicts happening now? Why am I stuck? Over the next few posts, I will share with you some of the personal work I'm doing to take me to the next level. My vision for me and also the future. How I'm using shadow work to figure out my conflicts with myself and others. My fears and what I'm doing to combat them. I hope you'll enjoy learning my process. Maybe there is some way that I can help you. What transformation do you want to make? https://www.instagram.com/p/CH-smJxlijd/?igshid=1ww82m0dbw69c

These tiger butterflies came dirrectly from my unconcious. I've been trying and wanting to embody the tiger, ferocious, brave, serene. I've been obsessed by the butterfly woman for a long time already. So, it's not surprising that I drew these. It's all about my transformation. Which can be super painful at times. Like a part of me must die first. At least it feels like it. I discovered that this is called shadow work. I'm all about Jung at the moment. Haha! I promiss I will tell you a little story in the next few days that paints a picture of some of the personal work that's going on with me. Until then, what does the tiger butterfly mean to you? What does shadow work mean to you? #tiger #tigerbutterfly #mural #tibetian #tattooart #traditionalartist #traditonaltattoo #traditionaltiger #popsurrealism #artforbreakfast #art #taxcollection #thejealouscurator @gangofwitches #spiritanimal https://www.instagram.com/p/CH0a1m5Fk15/?igshid=14u8yb0kivw1z

I found the third photo the other day. It made me flashback to 2012 my performance for the Cabaret Organique. These were the early days before we started @gangofwitches but the vibe was already there. I wonder if Christian Hecq and Valerie Lesort, Paris's two most incredible théâtre decorators came to our performance festival. (I wish I could work with them!). I turned the art of tattooing into a peepshow performance. I wrote about it ages ago on my blog. Go visit my website, you can find it under the performance catagory of my blog. Hey everyone! I just posted a new blog article on my website on Greyson Perry and Paula Rego. I talk about why their shows in Paris marked a turning point and good news for the art world. While you're there sign up, I don't send out newsletters often, but when I do there's lots of good stuff only for subscribers. Leave me a comment if you liked the blog or have a question or comment. #paularego @paularegostudio #greysonperry @greysonperry1 #figurativeart #narativeart #crossdressing #artist #parisart @museedorsay2020 https://www.instagram.com/p/CHdJgKsFSNH/?igshid=14ec77dgvozp2

Second Catterfly I did during my residency at the Coven. I had no idea that these chimera really exist, you should check out the hashtag. I was reading Man and his symbols, by Jung and other Jungians. It spoke about how the unconsious has very important things to tell us. I can't seem to remember my dreams long enough to write them down at the moment. But sometimes when I come up with drawings I think I'm tapping into it somehow. Transformation is coming. I've still got a lot of work to do. #catterfly #chimeracat #chimera #catsofinstagram #mural #ladieswhopaint #bluetigers #kittens https://www.instagram.com/p/CHawut0F2Vw/?igshid=56g43ogfz71m

Caution! Construction site, work in progress. A much needed retreat from all the shit show that is happening all over the world. Take a minute to forget about all that and immerse yourself with me a a creative escape. I gave myself permission to steal a few days of joy before what announces to be a long, hard winter. Here all is sunny. Art is all around. Nature is just outside. Just what the doctor ordered. #ladieswhopaint #mural #artistgirl #catlover #artistpalette #frenchartist (at Santa Eulalia Del Río, Islas Baleares, Spain) https://www.instagram.com/p/CG8B_zglHNI/?igshid=1h4g2jkrf053i
