I was attracted to this in the hospice shop,
mainly for these amazing illustrations by Ralph Steadman, who I recognise from reading Will Self's newspaper pieces back in the day.
I know nothing of Daisy Ashford, but Wikipedia says she wrote a bestseller when she was nine. 😁

I read Maid of Sark by Sibyl Hathaway, a sort of historical romance fictionalising the granting of the fief to Helier de Carteret, first Seigneur of Sark, in 1565 after an invasion of Bretons.
I wonder if Sibyl wrote a bit of herself into the heroine Guillette and the villain Gaud. I hope so. Rollicking good fun. 😁
