ANOTHER THING. SINCE I FINISHED FRUITS BASKET.

I never got the feeling that Kyo's mom hated him. Never. Not once. I keep seeing people say she did and I was like???

The dad though??

I don't think she kept him inside because she was ashamed or afraid of him. I always got the feeling it was to protect him. No protection from her husband/his dad though.

After her death, he always talked like he loved her, but it was revealed that he was spouting all that hateful shit about her giving birth to the cat, too. He was the problem, not the mother.

I stand by my stance that she loved him but just couldn't take all the abuse anymore.

A Quiet Meeting ||

Another quiet day...a little chilly, but otherwise beautiful. The sun was out, shining through the canopy of leaves above, and nothing else could be heard, save for the sounds of the woods and the teen working on his little garden.

Pulling the weeds, making sure the bugs were leaving the sprouts alone...this little hobby of his always helped calm his nerves, especially after an encounter with the cat.

Tohru was with her friends today...Shigure was off tormenting his editor. He didn't want to be home...Kyo was there.

He breathed in slowly through his nose, taking in the earthy scents. Maybe he'd get some fast food later, for some reason everyone freaked out when he tried to cook...

Oh, I've officially finished Fruits Basket with @catscourged. We suffered through the Y.uki/Ma.chi together to finish.

Strawberries. Solely because they are very versatile in dessert dishes, and...Tohru was the first to request them.

My favorite thing about Yuki is just how alike he is to Kyo, despite the story trying to paint them as complete opposites.

For the longest time we're led to believe he's super privileged for being born as the Rat--which...is true, but also not at the same time. He ended up being just as ostracized as the Cat, Kyo, both Akito's doing.

The tradition for isolating the cat ran for generations yes, but after Akito's father passed and she snapped, that's where it went downhill for Yuki.

Convincing him that everyone hated him, isolating him, mentally abusing him for years. He reached out to Ayame once and was snubbed, his mother sold him for status(his father exists but he never hear anything about him), he went mute for a little while even, until he finally begged Shigure to take him away.

I was really happy when the remake included Yuki's full backstory, since a lot of anime-onlys were convinced Yuki was just an asshole, and the moment the episode came out, a vast majority of them changed their tune.

Kyo and Yuki are two sides of the same coin. Different but somehow the same circumstances.

So I’m currently drowning in feels over remembering Yuki’s backstory. How his mother basically gave him away for status, his brother snubbed his only attempt to ask for help, the only friend he tried to reach out to(within the family, besides Haru) immediately hated him because he himself was compared to the amazing rat. He was isolated from everyone and convinced that they all hated him.

He went mute for awhile.

He begged his adult cousin to take him away.

When he met Tohru…that was the start of his change. His building self confidence and recovery. The start of his journey to heal.
