Implementing: The Final Step

Introduction 

I have known what is social media, and how to build an effective business community in social media. Through this semester work, I help my clients to the built community, and social media help my client to get some new business. Through work with Hootsuite and professor’s lecture video, help me do final step, which is implemented. 

Challenges for First Work

Although more and more Chinese people work in Mount Pleasant, and customers do not have increased, First Work does not have increase sale. So, I think First Work have a potential challenge, First Work do not enough employees. As a customer, I feel that when I go to First Work, if I should wait a long time, and they do not have good service, because they just have three employees, they do not have enough time to work these items. At the same time, they do not have good take-out service, they do not let the customer get quickly, because they lack enough employee, just a family restaurant, they should expand the restaurant scale. In addition, I think First Work have another challenge, which is the improvement of customer’s requirement. First Work has a big problem, they do not change the menu. Sometimes, when a customer goes to First Work, customers do not know how to choose, because all food had eaten. 

Personal Reflections

As this semester is coming to an end. I know social media importance. Social media become a huge part of today's society, and it’s become the main role for a company and organization. A good social media community will bring huge opportunity. At the same time, this class let we work with my client, not just reading the book. This experience will help me in the long run on my way to graduation.

Effective Social Media Content

Introduction 

When I completed the Hootsuite module 5, I learned how effective content is developed and shared. Sharing content that is informative, entertaining and timely is a key element of a successful social media strategy. Everyone wants to get a success in social media, and want to have influence in social media. Developing and Sharing Effective Content

First of all, when you want to share effective content. You should know what to share and where to share. There is the article “How to Develop and Perfect Your Social Media Sharing Schedule”, which show that there are so many different platforms all with their own advantages, however, it’s almost impossible to share on each network well unless you have a large team helping. If that isn’t the case, focusing on specific platforms might be the best solution here. When thinking about which platforms you should prioritize in your schedule, a good question to ask yourself is: Where is your audience? Do they spend most of their time on Twitter? Facebook? A good way to share is to have a mix of content to provide your audience. They recommend not solely focusing on your own content but giving them a variety to look forward to. Providing a service or entertainment to your audience is more likely to lead them to follow you and engage with all of your content, rather than bombarding them with only promotional updates.

What does becoming a social organization have to do with the principles of effective content development and sharing? 

I want to become an influence on social organization, you must improve efficiency, and continued growth in efficiency. At the same time, you should manage your time, If you don’t decide how much time and focus you’ll put into social media, the default will be “all of it.” Sites like Twitter and Facebook are seductive places to drop in and just check what’s new. But when your five-minute check turns into twenty-five minutes, and you’re doing that four or five times a day per site, you’re going to find your productivity taking a dive.

Promise of  a Pencil

How did Braun build community in his organization? 

When I know Amazingly Adam began Pencils of Promise with only $25, I was shocked. I do not know Braun how to get success. When I have read all, I know the answer. The article “ Adam Braun: How He Started Pencils of Promise ” show that social networks don’t get people to donate, they get people to connect to your mission. And once they’re connected to your mission, they’ll not only donate, their peers will donate to you too because they’ll see how important your work is to their friend. Pencil of Promise use social media to attract follower, and they not only introduce their work and advertisement, but they also show their values to the public and let more and more people agree their value. So, a lot of people join this group, and they more like to participate in this work. At the same time, I think he can create an extraordinary community because they have an extraordinary belief. The article “HOW AN ORDINARY PERSON CAN CREATE EXTRAORDINARY CHANGE” said Adam’s organization, Pencils of Promise, is based on the belief that every person deserves access to a quality education. This belief let their fan to get a goal, this is an important factor in my mind. 

How did he create a sustainable enterprise?

First of all, Adam Braun is very talent and passion, he started working at hedge funds at sixteen years old. So, they have well experience, which can help him to get success. However, Adam Braun created a sustainable enterprise, not only the ability of one person. Two different forms of non-profit or for-profit can influence an enterprise development in the future. for-profit vs. non-profit defines a company’s ability to truly profit in monetary terms, and companies are also equally evaluated as “for-purpose” or “non-purpose” to reflect the social benefit they provide to society. I think non-purpose can easy to get social support and residents' trust, these factors can influence the sustainability of an enterprise. In the meanwhile, there are certain areas where the bottom of the pyramid is simply underserved, and this is where non-profits are most effective. Also, I think a sustainable enterprise should pay attention to purpose, value, and development way, not only profit. Adam Braun can be built a sustainable enterprise, this is an important factor.

What role did social media play, if any? 

Social media is an important role. Adam Braun began Pencils of Promise with only $25, but Braun gets success. Social media help him to expand influence and connect people with this organization. He uses social media to build his own community actively, and let his value get the support of a lot of people. Braun began had not got any donors, but he uses social media, let more and more people realize, and support this organization.

Online Community

Principles

A company should follow some important principals when they build a successful online community with social media. The community is important if you want to create a great statement, there are key principles that should be understood:

First of all, embrace different levels of commitment from members. Some members are more active than others, and some of them are not active at all. However, when building an online community, the most important thing to consider is to accept the offer from all of your members. In addition, you should instead is to fuel the discussion and get everybody involved in their way.

Second, offer a platform for people with different views for discussion. If your business covers a sensitive and divisive subject, you need to shed the topic into peaceful light by bridging the gap between people and misunderstanding, so they open their minds to new experiences.

Third, allow the community to influence your actions. Keep an eye on the valuable insights of community members and listen to their needs so that you can improve your products and services based on their recommendations. There is a good example of Lego. Despite being an unofficial community of Lego, Lugnet has become a source of information even for Lego themselves. As Lego is marketed towards children, it did not stop A.F.O.L. (Adult Fans of Lego) who share their creations with other fans and collaborate on different projects on the site. In fact, their contributions on Lugnet were so good that it helped Lego expand to different markets with their products.

Finally, I think the organization’s goals also is important, and it also is a culture for a company. people should understand the organization’s goal, which can help the firm to succeed in the future. At the same time, employees also know where we go, it can bring a lot of advantage for a company.

Hootsuite/Client

What did I learn from Hootsuite? First of all, I learned how do you build an advocate community? First of all, what is the advocate community? Advocacy and community are all about building the relationship that engages and empowers these individuals, enabling you to build a following who will sing your praises to the networks. At the same time, with the support of your organization, you can increase brand awareness and customer loyalty. 

In addition, engaging with influencers and advocates is a good way. China Garden is a Chinese restaurant in Mount Pleasant. When I went to China garden the first time, I see many pictures about celebrity. This way let me know to remember this restaurant quirkily. 

So, I hope my client can best use community efforts. we can build a network, and engage with the community, increase brand awareness. Also, I suggest my client should make strong relationships with key influencers. It can help my client achieve visibility in networks. At the meanwhile, word-of-mouth recommendations from customers are considered more credible than traditional company-led advertising efforts. My client should engage loyal customers to become brand advocates, relation with their customers, sharing positive brand sentiments.

Big Data, Businesses and Customers

As we all know, big data become more and more important in the world. Today we will discuss the lecture “The Legal Side of Big Data” by Doug LaLone. In this lecture, Doug LaLone shows an important define, what is big data. Also, there are the relates for big data, like the government, technology and legal.

what should businesses be aware of when using big data? I think every business have their data, so data breaches is a big problem for each company. How to use their data and how to protect their data. Because a lot of situations show that data breaches happen from when the employee is using these data. They should create an independent system, and hold some safeguard procedures. At the same time, hackers are to be a threat. How to make a system to protect hackers and business should be aware which data have value and should be aware that there will always be a threat. Provides good project to protect their data.

What should consumers be aware of? Consumers may not have important data compare with business and government. However, customers are easy to happen data breaches. As a customer, I found that my basic always happen breaches, so internet is never safe. When we use big data from the internet, we should realize their business, and know they are how to protect their customer’s information, and try not to share information when we use data from the internet.

What is the best way to balance the opportunities and threats presented by the development of big data? I think that business should efficient control their data, and make a good way to protect their customer’s information. In addition, integrity is important for business, let customers trust you can protect their data, so businesses should be planning how to prevent data breaches. At the same time, we should pay attention to institutional management on the internet, so businesses and government need to improve network management to protect customer’s data.

Algorithm

There is an article “Social Media Algorithms: What They Are and How to Improve Your Reach Social Media Algorithms: What They Are and How to Improve Your Reach” show a define, An algorithm is a clearly defined and calculated repeatable process, most often used by computers to solve problems. Social media giants like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest use algorithms to attempt to predict what their users enjoy and want to see more often, based on how they engage with similar content within their platform. I always have this feeling, when I see a video, or seeing a page of my follow’s content. The social media networks always my interesting. If I see an advertisement for many times, I must see similar advertising on social media websites. However, the ways in which algorithms select and prioritize information have been heavily criticized. I feel these websites get my basic information, and what is my favorite and interesting. I worried my privacy is violated, so we should start worrying about who will be the next victim of these privacy violations. It could be anyone.

Advertising

The article “Three reasons junk news spreads so quickly across social media.” show social media platforms are built on collecting user data and selling it to companies to enable them to better understand populations of users while offering companies the ability to craft and deliver micro-targeted messages to those populations. This is a good bait for social media networks. I brought a skating shoe last month, after the time I always see some advertisings about ice skating in Google, Tumblr, and YouTube. At the same time, there is another reason to let the spread of junk news. I think that everyone has an experience, we always get calls, and some marketing staffs use social media to sell their product. These two reasons let a lot of junk food spread in marketing.

Exposure

While the algorithm and advertising play a role to spread junk news. However, exposure also is another important factor. For example, as a company, how to get some social media exposure? First of all, they should write some interesting context, then let the same industry people read. In addition, they can share this information with other, include their friend and colleagues. This situation will get a snowball effect to develop.

Conclusion  

There three factors which are an algorithm, advertising and exposure spread junk news.  When we see some advertisings, some information will be the loss, and marketing staff has good ability to sell their product and snowball effect also a reason to spread junk news. At the same time, we should protect our basic information when we read information in the social media network.

Consulting Myself

If I was acting as a social media consultant to myself, I focus improve good listening skills. As a consultant, excellent listening skills are really important as it will help the client to talk freely. In addition, a consultant has a responsibility, which is “help”. Also, good listening skill can let all to talk freely, which cause more information sharing. At the meanwhile, I will pay attention to professionalism, because professionalism can help me to get high level, and work better, become a good consultant. So, the consultant would always charge for more work, if the consultant has good professionalism.

Explain how "big data" relates to information privacy.  

I think that internet very influences our life, and when we do some operations on the internet, our action is being watched by some companies. Some big company can know our everything from online, and when we put into some password and basic information, like address, phone number, and emails, they can get this information, it is very important for us, influence our privacy.

Why is big data such a powerful tool, and what are the dangers of its abuse?

Basic “the data Brokers” show that they're called data brokers, and they are collecting, analyzing and packaging some of our most sensitive personal information and selling it as a commodity...to each other, to advertisers, even the government, often without our direct knowledge. Much of this is the kind of harmless consumer marketing that's been going on for decades. What's changed is the volume and nature of the data being mined from the Internet and our mobile devices, and the growth of a multibillion-dollar industry that operates in the shadows with virtually no oversight. Big data is a powerful tool, they can be collected and analyzing data, and get some specific information, but a lot of data are formed resident’s information. Also,  some of our most sensitive personal information and selling it as a commodity...to each other, to advertisers and the government, which is a danger. Sometimes, the action cause law problems and moral issues.

What are your views about how to limit harm from big data, on both the personal and societal levels?       I think if want to limit harm from big data, that is very difficult. Because we do not leave the internet. I just try to less share basic information, and use law to figure when serious.

The Internet's Original Sin

After reading the article “The Internet’s Original Sin” and watching the podcast by Maciej Ceglowski’s talk, that let our find web’s service has many problems. many webs use advertising to get profit, these are not true service for the customer, pay attention to profit.  They accord you like to provide advertisements. At the same time, we also should protect information, like disable location, and know some basic law about information privacy.

Part 2: Social Media Experiment

I have planed Wednesday do this experiment. Decided to divided three periods to do this experiment, includes morning, afternoon and evening.

In the morning

Because I was mentally prepared, I feel not very difficult for the first three hours. I had to get up at 7 am, then I go swimming, everything seems to be going well. However, after 9 am I go to the library form Sac, I find without my phone which is super hard for me. I think OMG, that is too hard. I find I have been getting a habit, When I was studying, I always like using the phone to listen to something, and when I feel tired, I like to use the phone to see some videos. So I feel I am addicted to my phone.

In the afternoon

Because I know I difficult control my habit, and I just move my attention, so I decided to drive to Lansing. I think if I am busy, maybe I do not have enough time to check my phone. however, I find I still hard to control. When I listen my phone have a shake or reminder, I always want to see. Sometimes, my friend like sent messages from social media applications to me, but I do not use these applications back answer. So My some friends do not know what happens, which cause they have a little worry. In this afternoon, I went to the market to buy something, but when I work in a supermarket or stores, I would have the tendency to reach for my phone. Although I do not like this behavior, that become my habit, it is hard to change.

In the evening

At 6:30 pm, I have a class. Before I study in this class, I feel I can easy to pass these three hours, but I miss. This class is very boring, and do not have some important contents. Also, I fond many students used social media applications in this class, so I get a bad experience. When I finished this class, I decided went to the library to read books. I have to say this is a good choice, I forget time. However, when I go back to my room, I meet the same problem, which is hard to control my habit. I just want to sleep quickly. Before I like to watch some speech videos or listen to some speech videos to sleep. So I toss and turn difficult to sleep.

Conclusion

After this experiment, I get an interesting experience. Although I feel I had to change my habit, I find a way to overcome this habit. At the same time, if I leave social media, I feel I can get more free time in my life, I can use these free time to work. I hope I can reduce my screen time in my life, let me get higher efficiency to work.

Social Media

I have to say social media is very important in my life. When I read “Before The Internet,” and watching the interview with Sherry Turkle, I have the same feeling. I think that social media is all the time in my life. There is a simple example I never leave my phone, and I never close my phone, include my sleep. If I have free time, 90% free time used by the phone, I always use it to check my Facebook and WeCheat. Sometimes, social media also cause bad something. In the interview with Sherry Turkle, Sherry Turtle show a situation that kids sit in Class now and they, you know, the phone is in the bag or the phone is on the floor, and they check regularly what new texts are coming in. Not only kids, when I studied in class if long time does not see my phone, I always want to check what new texts are coming in. Although this is bad behavior, I feel it become a habit. In the meanwhile, the internet has important effects on my life.

When I read “Before The Internet”, I feel that I will lose something in my life. In the article, there show some example about before the internet. Before the Internet, you might take it upon yourself to do a drawing. You’d quietly start sketching something in a notebook, not sure what it was. In my childhood, I did not have a lot of social media, I learned some skills to play. For example, if I have free time, I always like to learn swimming, then I get a new skill in my life. Sometimes, I did a draw when I feel alone. There is a good habit in my mind. Social media bring some new things, but let me leave some friends and lose some skills. However, the internet also let us get new knowledge, any things need milt-angle analysis. Sometimes when I haven't had access to the Internet for an extended period of time, I can improve my efficiency.  In another situation, when I go out to travel, I can develop a habit that longtime access the internet.

Hello everyone. My name is Ziyuan Zhao. I come from China. I am Studying at Central Michigan University for three years, and my major is Business information system. I will be graduating this December 2018. I will do a master program after graduate, but I wanna change a major, economic and management are like.
