Welcome to Txampaytxurtel Island, the tranquil pearl of the pacific. The people from this island are known for their hospitality and warmness towards other clans and sky people so count yourself as their family member already.
This island has their own unique features, culture and activities such as surfing. The waves are so good for surfing and everyone also have surfing competitions during Naha festival.
Txurtelan people are also known for their unique reptile anatomy, evolved for surviving in both land and marine life. Also, I forgot to mention; their skin produce mucus as a defense mechanism. The mucus helps to keep their skin moist, aids in respiration through their skin. Additionally, it can also help in maintaining electrolyte balance and thermal regulation.
This fanclan is an alternative universe for the anime called "Sk8 the infinity" so these clans, culture and the island itself are based on Okinawa island in real life. So that's why characters have no specific hair, eye colour or height measurement.
I couldn't finish character designs so I have to put them in another post next time.
Is there any special meaning to any of the SK8 characters' names when translated?
I was prepared to just say, other than ADAM who I've already explained in other posts, no not really. But there are some things about their names I guess I could explain.
A lot of their names are very Okinawan. It helps show the show takes place in Okinawa.
Kyan Reki (喜屋武暦)
Reki's name Kyan is a Ryuukyuu name. Ryuukyuu are the native people who live on the Okinawan islands.
Hasegawa Langa (馳河ランガ)
Langa's name is just a normal Japanese name, though that probably means he's using his mother's last name because his father was Canadian. A lot of half Japanese people use their mother's maiden name as their official Japanese name. He might have another last name they haven't told us?
Chinen Miya (知念実也)
Chinen is the 11th most common name in Okinawa. They named him Miya to sound like a cat meowing.
Higa Hiromi (比嘉広海)
Higa is the most common last name in Okinawa.
Sakurayashiki Kaoru (桜屋敷 薫)
His is not an Okinawan name at all. It's most common in Hokkaido. Sakurayashiki means cherry blossom estate. Kaoru means a nice aroma.
Nanjou Kojirou (南城虎次郎)
Nanjou itself isn't a common name in Okinawa, but there is a city in Okinawa named Nanjou. There are a lot of castles on Okinawa from old Ryuukyuu empire. The ko (虎) in Kojirou means tiger.
Shindou Ainosuke (神道愛之介)
I made a post about the meaning of Ainosuke and I mentioned Shindou here. His name is just really weird lol.
Kikuchi Tadashi (菊池 忠)
I've mentioned before that his name means chrysanthemum pool. Tadashi means loyalty/devotion.
