yuuji casts his gaze upwards, taking in the night sky, before letting his gaze drop back down to the woman.  it’s not the weirdest thing he’s ever heard someone here say, but it’s also far from a normal statement.  “you went to space?”

It was nighttime, and Raven had found herself sitting in the park, gaze upward into the trillions of stars that sprinkled across the visible sky. Six years had been spent floating among the stars without guarantee to make it back, and now they had found Earth in much different, much better conditions than how they had left. Adjusting was still big. At least in space, when her leg had gotten too bad, she could spacewalk and feel free of it. That option didn’t exist here. “As great as things are down here, I kind of miss being up there.”

“i get sent to some weird world with unsaturated, not-at-all-fun colors, and dogs made into food and people keep asking me why i look so displeased? i don’t know what the hex is going on, but i don’t like it and i would appreciate it if people would stop running into me, it makes my fur stand on end,” she said, arms crossed with a scowl upon her face. “on my birthday. so excuse the hex outta me for not being as happy as a hatter.”

yuuji isn't exactly used to pretty girls talking to him at all, much less initiating the conversation. so to be faced with this, and about the park and nature of all things, he's inwardly incredibly happy. "the forest's not bad," he agrees, "but i think the park is better. getting to meet new people's always fun."

yuuji knows he shouldn’t be depending so much on fast food, but what can he say - he’s too busy to be spending time making food. (or so he keeps telling himself. the truth of the matter is he’s not sure how his roommate would feel about yuuji trying, and likely failing, to cook. he thinks it might leave a somewhat bad impression.) as it is, he’s in line waiting to order his food, stomach growling unhappily, as the boy in front of him begins shouting angrily. he cranes his neck to see what the issue is and - oh. “dude, most places in america don’t accept yen. you should get that exchanged,” he says offhand as he pulls his own wallet out. “if you don’t have any dollars, i can buy the food for you.”

hands shoved into the tiny pockets of his plaid shujin pants, ryuji formed a fist around all of the yen he could find — one pocket, and then the other, trying to make sense of the fact that he had so LITTLE of it to begin with and now it seemed as though he had even less. being in this strange, strange place …. well, he wanted food to hold himself over …. but all of the shops he went to thus far didn’t accept yen as currency and sent the blonde packin’ to try the next burger joint down the street. this was his fifth attempt, and when he slammed the coins down onto the counter, ready to pay for the simple to-go meal, they DECLINED him. again. ❝ are you KIDDING me?! ❞ he took a step back, his voice naturally raising to a shout as he greedily grabbed what he offered and pushed it back where it came from. ❝ what the EFF is up with this place?! it’s like — it’s like you don’t want my money or somethin’! ❞ gaining a confused stare from the cashier, ryuji just shook his head. ❝ you know what?! whatever, man. i’m leavin’! ❞

that wasn't quite the answer yuuji had been expecting, though it doesn't surprise him very much. he supposes it just means he'll have to work even harder if he hopes to ever come close to the other's skill level. "is it like, a family thing?"

Arno shrugged at the question. It was like a duel edged sword. How long had he been an assassin? His father was one and at the age of fifth he stole an apple because of a girl, but he had not become a full forced assassin until he was framed for his guardian’s death. “For as long as I can remember, really. It’s apart of me, like I was born with it.” He admitted honestly.
