Be on time!
About a month ago I went to a band concert, Mana. The concert time was set to start at 7pm with an opening band and Mana the main show was to start at 8pm.  Well, the show did not start till 9 pm and there was no opening the band.  The show was great, they had this huge tv’s on the back of the band and the visuals were great.  The sound was on point and the band had the show down to the T but what I mainly remember is that they were late.
Since I can remember Hispanics tend to always run late even to church, I seen people entering service even an hour later the service has started, and the services runs from 1 hr to 1/2 at most. But can you blame them? The worship group tents to start late, for what reason? I have no idea! By the time the service starts we have been there for almost 4 hrs.
This brings me back to how important it is for a professional to always be on time.  Structure is a big part of my life.  A band can choose to be late, but we as sound techs should always be early not on time but early.

Me
Hi Everyone,
For some reason I feel compel to introduce myself.  My name is Yvonne I’m an accountant by trade but a musician at heart.  Since I was a child, I remember being part of the kids worship group.  I had so much fan singing and dancing that I center my life as a teen and young adult as a singer/dancer.  I always found a way to join the wordship group at whatever church we were attending, and I event went to college to be a professional dancer.  Life happened and I changed my major many times before sticking with accounting but one thing that always remained constant was my love for wordship and music in general.
I had been a volunteer as a worship singer for as long as I can remembered, I have held positions such as worship coordinator and sound and visual tech and enjoyed every role I ever held. I’m now in my 40′s now and I have a son who is 20 and I noticed we had less to talk about each day.  My son is in a band now and he is very much into his music.  When he was 9 I enrolled him in piano lessons and then guitar, bass, marimba and sax but as he got older he needed less of me and my basic knowledge of music.
In 2020 I broke my toes, stopped volunteering in church due to the pandemic and my son was into his music and I felt so out of place that is when I decided that I can kill two birds with one stone.  I returned to Cerritos College and joined the commercial music program and I’m in love!! I have learned so much, music theory, piano, to record and edit music, Protools, Cubase, and so much more.  I’m sad to say that I’m near graduation from the program and I’m very sad.  I know that this is not the end of my journey only the biggening, but I do wish it would had been longer, maybe another year as I have had wonderful teachers that I would miss greatly.
What is next you may ask? I have no idea!! for now I plan to enjoy my summer and keep volunteering at the sound both in DFCC and enjoy my summer.
Yvonne
