Today is a very dark day for me and all women in Turkey. As last night with a president's decision, Turkey illegally had withdrewn from Istanbul Convention. A convention that protected agains violence against women and domestic violence. In a country that in last 78 days 77 women were brutally murdered, because they are women and because they wanted to live freely, this decision makes us all an open target from now on.
Even before, in a family and friend circle that has no violence and has no gendered views I felt like a potential femicide victim. In many cases your killer is someone you know closely or you don't even know but has been obsessing you or hating the way you live your life as a woman. And now with the limited protection of Istanbul Convention gone, I feel as the government has already took my life.
I am so sad and sorry for my country's fate from now on, and already mourn all the women whom we'll lose because the government decided the perpetrators and rapists are worth more than the lives of half of the population.
I hope everyone responsible for this won't die before living what they put us through.
