Apocalypse 2020: The Misadventures of the Trashbirds

A rough concept/premise for an upcoming comic (art by @xxdespairfactionashtonxx )

In an world way too similiar to ours, the world ended in flames, war, radiation, disease, and moral panic... actually nobody can agree on how the world ended. Anyways, this uncertain annihilation of the world left a handful of survivors trying to just get by. The Midwestern Wastes, although not as heavily hit as the coasts, is a land of strife. Tribes of likeminded individuals, for better and for worse, have banded together to carry on the flame of their old world conflicts. The end of the world left a power vacuum for the new start's narrative to be controlled by whoever gained control of the region and rebuilt first, and all sides of this war are vicious and determined to write the first volume of the new world's history books.

This is not that story.

This is the story of a roadtrip.

The Trashbirds are an unlikely crew of misfits from the old world who still stand out as oddities in the new world, traveling in a van across the hellish landscape of scum and horror that is the state of Missouri.

They are Rikki Ruin (middle), Lupin (left), Nostalgia Rhodes (right) and Spiffy (the large mutated glowing iguana). Rikki is on a quest to reconnect with his family on the opposite end of the state and across a sea of post-apocalyptic adventures.

Together they will fight nazis, interrupt a biker gang's dick measuring contest, meet Techno-Missionaries, and solve a sensitive crisis between two fast food cults with the power of friendship and those bats you see in movies with the nails and chains on them.
