This is wrong because it only portrays that you’re not determined enough to make yourself better than today. Most of the time, your mind and emotions are battling against your will to workout. Maybe you think that if you start today, you will just pause it the next day or the next week, so why bother to start it? It’s a wrong mindset. Another inner-self problem that some people have is being perfectionists. They want the best coach, the best program, and nutrition plan before they start to commit to a program, but they end up in the searching process. Sometimes, you just have to take a risk to know if something will work along the way. One great reason to commence your training is when your health is already at risk. If you’re getting overweight or having high-sugar and cholesterol levels, and other illnesses, then it’s high time to make yourself better by doing a regular exercise. If you want to transform your body for a better appearance, note that it won’t happen overnight. So, what you really need is discipline to control the foods you eat, and determination to be consistent in following your program. You should know what you expect in a certain period because this could either encourage you or discourage you from pursuing this. But why? For instance, in your weight loss journey, you want to trim some 60 lbs of weight in just two weeks because you’re the kind of person who doesn’t like to wait for that much. Well, IT’S IMPOSSIBLE. As a result, it will discourage you. Such cases may happen to you if you don’t have enough knowledge of what you’re aiming to happen and what you can do. One of the most critical factors in creating your timeframe is how quick you want your goal to happen. Are you willing to exert efforts in 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year? Better assess yourself first before deciding on getting a program. But let me give you some realistic estimations based on my clients’ experiences during their weight loss journey, and there are two options based on the two kinds of people: HIGHLY-DISCIPLINED and AVERAGE. HIGHLY-DISCIPLINED PERSON: You can set the timeframe of your training in as fast as 3 months. This is a bit fast since you can discipline yourself with your calories and macros intake. That’s why you really have to be honest with yourself when assessing what you can do. AVERAGE PERSON: You can go with a slower option of training. You can set the timeframe in 6 months or more. I would say you’re an average person if you know you can’t stick with your diet plan and possibly can’t do workouts on scheduled dates or hours. Having less discipline means having slow progress. Being on and off in doing workouts will never work in losing weight effectively. It will only discourage you from pursuing your body transformation, and you’ll surely get stuck in lose weight gain weight cycle. The average weight loss of all my clients within 6 months of training is about 50 to 60 lbs. Do you want to know the reason why? They think that body transformation requires losing weight, which is very similar to the case of one guy that I had spoken with last time. He already lost 60 lbs, yet he’s not happy with the way he looks, and you don’t want that to happen to you. The discouragement stems from wrong thinking between the two terms, and we’re going to demystify the terms today. Weight loss is just the beginning of your body transformation journey. During this process, you’re losing water weight (composed of 10-25% of total body weight), body fat (10-30%), and muscle mass (30-55%) as well. Losing body fat is maintaining or gaining muscle mass while trying to drop the body fat percentage, and this is where you need to focus on when trying to have a good physique. You don’t necessarily need to see a change in the scale in this process. QUESTION: IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A GOOD BODY TRANSFORMATION WITHOUT CHANGING BODY WEIGHT? Absolutely! In fact, I have a client before who didn’t look good because of the body fat despite being in the normal weight. But now, he managed to stay on the same weight while having a more beautiful appearance after stripping off the excess fat on his body. MUSCLE MASS WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT, and it’s true. Muscle mass is denser than body fat. Every one pound of your muscle is four times smaller than one pound of your fat. So, if you’re going to compare two people with the exact body built, they could have a different bodyweight because the first person might be an athlete (which means he has a significant muscle mass). The second person is just a slim guy who doesn’t work out or lifting weights. The former can weigh more than the latter. THEN, WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? If you have bodyweight to lose, focus first on losing weight program. Most fruits and veggies are picked BEFORE THEY ARE RIPE so they could be fully ripened during the transportation to the market from 3 days to a few weeks. However, fresh produce is mostly treated with some chemicals for preservation purposes. Meanwhile, frozen fruits and veggies are generally picked DURING THEIR PEAK RIPENESS, and they have the highest nutritional value at this moment. Fruits and vegetables are being washed and packaged within a few hours after harvesting. Veggies undergo blanching before the freezing process while the fruits are not so the texture won’t get affected. Fruits are treated with ascorbic acid or sugar instead. In general, FREEZING helps retain the nutrients in fruits and veggies. Some studies show that fresh and frozen produce similar nutrient content. Still, there are instances where frozen produce more Vitamin C and increases fiber since the fruits and veggies are more soluble during the freezing process. WHAT TO CHOOSE THEN? If you have available fruits and vegetables that you can pick straight from your farm or garden, you can always get the highest quality. But when buying in the market, the nutritional value of frozen produce is just equivalent to, or in some cases, even healthier than fresh options. If you consider CONVENIENCE and COST-EFFECTIVE alternatives, the frozen varieties are the best.
