Compartmentalized and Transformed Urban Public Spaces
There has been a growth of urban public spaces that are now compartmentalized in certain areas, demonstrating the division between the different worlds of public and privatized. Gated communities have excluded themselves from everyone formally or informally from social interactions. Urban public spaces has demonstrated how socially constructed society is even post apartheid, we find ourselves still being divided even within the same areas. Streets are being gated some are not showing a division within areas. This a made individuals think that there is a form of exclusivity and luxury that you need to be linked to in order to fit in.
Certain urban public areas that people attend you are forced to uphold yourself within a certain form or you will be deemed by society that you are not mean to be within that particular circle. The question we should be asking would be do public spaces seek to control the way we think, feel and behave in urban spaces.
