If I had a nickel for every time a red-headed girlboss scientist and her tall, dark-haired, malewife partner who sees the world differently than she does who were brought together by the workings of an antagonistic greater power on a 90s show where they work outside the mainstream of their government fell in love only to be actively sabotaged by the writers/producers, I’d have two nickels! Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?
so women are supposed to grin and bear the books, the comics, the movies, the plays, the tv shows, the stories, the sci-fi, the translated ancient poems, the fucking millennia of men writing about their self inserts torturing women and it being declared as High Art by other men, we’re supposed to read it in our free time, study it in classrooms, include their styles in our own writing, accept their cultural influence as natural, watch it in the cinema, write about it, talk about it, accept it, aspire it, but men can’t tolerate three seconds of female wish fulfilment of a woman snapping the wrist of a creep without feeling personally kicked in the balls.

Imagine thinking after you pass a certain age, a magic button is hit that stops all your interests and hobbies. That's not how it works fam. You've been conditioned by society to think it's the norm. I promise you, you stay you and your interests and hobbies stay your own.
The only self-imposed constraint is allowing others' opinions to influence your life and pretending to be an adult™ by what you were conditioned to believe is the only right way.
i know i am never going to convince the chakotay haters that he's actually a Neat Guy, but honestly you know - he's actually a Neat Guy. tragically underused, yes. chronically one note in how he is portrayed in terms of his heritage, yes. but i will fight anyone who says he is boring, or he has nothing going for him. because he does. so there.
people constantly tell me Strange New Worlds is the best mordern Star Trek. Are you okay? Come here, take my hand. I know the CGI is scary, ok, but we will watch Prodigy together, I promise it can't hurt you.
