Loops And Threads- Cotton Yarn's Review
Loops And Threads- Cotton Yarn’s Review
Cotton Colors… So sad to see you go. You were one of my Top 5 favorite cotton yarns 😭 Loops & Threads is a Michaels “Store Brand”. Meaning usually the only way to get this yarn would be from Michaels. However, now a days there is usually someone or some site that also sells it but for more money. Being a “store” brand also usually means its the cheaper version of name brands but not always.…

The Journey Continues
The Journey Continues...
First, I would Love to Thank each and everyone that has visited, liked, shared and stuck with me this last year and a half. No… I didn’t give up or get bored. Crochet is my passion, it what keeps me sane and I enjoy it so very much. Its been a wild ride these last almost 20 months. When I last posted, I had just been hired for a “Part-Time” job. The next thing I knew was Covid started and I was…

Caron Simply Soft Tweeds
I had originally purchased this yarn a few years back. It grabbed my attention, as it was so unique and of course I bought a few skeins with no real plan on what to use it with, sooo its been sitting around.
This was our first winter in about 4 years that It actually got down right cold and snowed a few times. I was on the hunt for cold weather yarn in my stash when I stumbled upon my skeins of Tweed. Is it bulky … No, not really but I had a new stitch I wanted to learn and thought that the Tweed would actually work well.
My thoughts were correct. This yarn is so versatile!! You can use a bulky type stitch to make a “thick”, warm garment… or use a normal stitch for your average day and a open mesh type stitch for those warmer days. This yarn is super soft, has a nice flow to it, doesn’t get super weighted down. Before I get too carried away lets get the technical stats done first…
As you can see by the picture above…
This is a Medium Weight (4), Made with 97% Acrylic & 3% Viscose
(Viscose is a semi-synthetic type of rayon fabric made from wood pulp.)
5oz /141g …  240yards / 219m
Recommended Hook 5mm , Knitting Needle 5mm
This is a Machine Washable and Dryable. As I usually state, I would wash with delicate laundry soap, cold water and lay flat. If you need to dry in dryer .. Low setting. With any article of “clothing” you want it to preserve it as well as possible.
Tweeds comes in 2 colors.  Grey Heather, Taupe and Off White. It can be found ..
Online at.. Yarnspirations
Online & Store.. Joann’s , Micheals and Walmart
When I got into my project with the yarn I realized I was going to need more. I was alittle concerned as most of the places I looked were completely out or only had one color. I was however able to find what I needed at Joanns, but this brings to mind… Are they going to be discontinuing this yarn. The date on one of the skeins I already had was 11/2017 eeekkkk
I have searched all over the internet and could not find anything stating Tweed was going to be discontinued, however I have checked and it still seems places are low in stock or out of stock. I really hoping its do to our shelter in place during Covid-19.
The reason I’m a little distraught is I really like this yarn. The look of it was what grabbed my attention so much and the softness got me hooked.
Left picture shows you a close up of the “tweed” effect in this yarn. Its soft little tufts of yarn here and there throughout the skein. Some are small and tight into the yarn strand, others are bigger and loosey goosey. It gives character to this yarn.
The right picture is a break down of the yarn. There is a main ( little thicker) strand that is alittle fuzzy and it is surrounded by a few thinner and smoother strands. The yarn is then basically twisted up together.
Because this is a twisted together type yarn, those that plan to do small, tighter stitches may get alittle upset at this yarn. It does tend to split easily as you work with it. It does not however do it when your doing looser/ big stitches. *Note.. I’m notorious for tight stitches, Its just the way I’ve always crocheted. Could be my tension or the way I hold yarn & hook… no clue, it’s just me lol *
With that being said, I did not have any other cons to this yarn. Well I take that back… maybe a few more colors lol
Pro’s..
Neutral color with speckles of brown, white and what I’m going to call rust making this yarn fun, stylish and unique.
Soft… did I mention its soft? lol Its snuggly, feel good on your skin kinda soft. This twist type yarn also allows for a little give. Its not much of a stretch but there is a tad.
Durable… With stood several froggings and did not split, fray or get tangled up. It handled going threw my washer and about 20 mins of medium heat dryer time. It did not “warp” the stitches, loose any color, etc. Basically came out looking the way it did going in.
I laid my project flat to finish drying. It did take over night but I believe it was also due to the type of stitch I used.
All in all.. This yarn has earned a spot in my permanent stash section. I will be restocking it, hopefully, when I find them available. I will also update this post If I do find out this yarn will no longer be made.
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you Have a Wonderful Day

Those of you that have gone or go to Hobby Lobby have probably seen Yarn Bee yarns. Yarn Bee is a Hobby Lobby only brand. Most stores now a days have store specific brand now.
I have played around with a few Yarn Bee yarns over the years but until recently, the yarns were stiff and … well just not that pleasing to feel. I’m noticing more vibrant colors, gradient yarns, yarns with wool, cotton mix yarns, etc in the Yarn Bee line in the recent year.
This Spurred my recent purchase of the Arabella. This mostly cotton, little balls of gorgeous color combos was a must try.
As you can see there is 10 different color combos in .. What I’m gonna call Donut Skeins. Lets Get into the Technical stoof first before I tell ya what its like to work with.
Soo.. Yarn Bee.. Found at all Hobby Lobby Store and Online at HobbyLobby.com
As you can see above..
3.5 oz/ 100 g weight..105 yds / 96 meters
This Yarn is considered Bulky (5)
55% cotton/ 45% acrylic .. And I did check out the see if the White was the cotton and Colored is Acrylic… No .. it is a blend in both strands
5.5 mm Knitting Needles / 6.5 mm Crochet hook
You Can machine wash.. Gentle, cold water. Lay Flat to dry.
The “Donuts” run 4.99 each .. Hobby Lobby always has a 40% off coupon or you can wait til they have 30% off yarn sale
I do wish the skeins were a bit bigger. I made this scarf with 4 skeins and some extra cotton yarn I had laying around for the tassels.
This yarn isn’t super soft but it does feel nice around your neck. I thought this might end up being very heavy but it isn’t too bad nor is it stiff in anyway. The yarn has a nice give to it to lay nicely when draped. Stitches are not lost and most that I tried looked great. Frogging was easy, though, if you pull too fast it does tend to get a little fuzzy texture here and there.
The yarn is made with 2 strands, a plain “natural” white and then the color changing strand. These 2 strands are twisted together with a single, very small white cord.
I worked this yarn with recommended needle size, 1 size smaller hook and a few larger hook sizes. All worked fantastic. Still being able to see the stitches correctly. I would not go any smaller than 1 size below recommended as it was starting to “mash” the stitches together and the project would not lay flat.
All in all, I liked working with this yarn and am considering adding it to my stash for more scarf projects. It might even work well as a weaving yarn.. especially the color combos in this yarn.. I can see a beautiful weave wall hanging project.
Thanks for stopping by.. Hope you have a Wonderful Day, Take care and see you next time

Round 2.)  2SC around (12)
Round 3.) Doing Front Loop Only.. SS around
Fasten off,  Leave a small tail for sewing
  ASSEMBLY….
This is not a exact procedure. If you want the legs closer, then place them closer. If you want the both facing forward then you can do it.. Personalize your Hippo the way you would like.
Start with bottom/back legs and work up.
I placed the legs .. starting 5 rows up from the base of body. The top of leg should be approx 11 rows up from base Legs are spaced 8 stitches apart. You can use stitch markers on these rows and stitches as a guide while sewing then on.
The Arms.. Starting at the top part of the arm.. This will be the little angled section. This angled section allows for the arms to point downward a little instead of sticking straight out from body. I placed top of arm starting approx. 6 rows down from top of body and 11 stitches apart from each other.
Sew Ears and Nostrils on before attaching the head to body.
Ears..   3 rows down for one – 4 rows down for the other, from top of head and I did 8 stitches apart.. I made them off centered from each other to give her a quirky look. If you want her ears even.. make sure they are on the same amount of rows down from top and spaced a even number.
Nostrils… Center of Nostril should be on row 9 from center of bottom of head. They are spaced 7 stitches apart from each other.
Optional Scarf…
MC
1.) SC 2 into loop
2.) Ch.1, turn, 2SC in each stitch
3.) Ch.1, turn, SC across
Repeat #3 til you scarf is 15 inches long
4.) Ch.1, turn, SC, SC2TOG, SC
5.) Ch.1, turn, SC2TOG
Fasten off and add a small fringe to each end
Til Next Pattern… Thank you for stopping by♥ Have a great week!!
