Kokayano AU - Sweets
As far as Christmas Eve’s go, Ayano could honestly say it was one of her favorites. Picturesque scenery outside, curled up with her girlfriend at said girlfriend’s house, girlfriend’s father out attending an overnight office party...
Yep, it was pretty swell.
“Um, Ayano?”
“Yes?”
“I’ve, uh, got something to share with you. Do you mind letting me out for a moment?”
Ayano smiled at Kokona in response, internally sighing as the warmth of the other girl’s body left the security of the large blanket and mulling over her thoughts as the TV played in the background. What was it that was so special? They’d already done a customary exchange of gifts an hour previously so unless Kokona was dressing up -
No, stop that train of thought. No need to get one’s hopes up too much after all.
“Here we are, Yan-Chan!”
Oh, it was -
“I made this cake just for you!”
Oh. Oh, dear.
A slice of Christmas Cake, lovingly presented on a plate complete with fork and napkin shouldn’t inspire so much dread. Except, sadly, it did.
It wasn’t that Kokona was a terrible cook, it was just that, well, she was really bad at making anything that didn’t come out of a package. Her attempt at Christmas Cookies had left the rest of their friend group visibly ill, green in the face and sweating profusely. Intellectually, Ayano knew that her girlfriend had no doubt worked hard to produce this and that as the recipient she should enjoy it. Another part of her pointed out that there was a possibility she’d be sent to the ER if she partook of the cake.
And between either suffering a severe stomachache or breaking Kokona’s heart, she knew which was preferable.
Steeling herself, Ayano bit down on her forkful of cake. Huh, It was fine, a bit plain...wait, why was it so chewy? And why did the icing taste like sweet was fighting a losing battle with spicy and bitter? Oh, and there was something crunchy now too...
“What do you think, Ayano?
Kokona was watching with a rapt expression, clearly eager to hear a favorable review. Ayano knew she shouldn’t, should give an honest yet supportive reply so Kokona would learn from this and (hopefully) not unintentionally kill her tastebuds next time...
“It was great.”
Another time. It was the season of giving after all, and she got to see Kokona’s face light up with an extra cheery grin in exchange for her little white lie so as far as Ayano was concerned it was worth it.
(It made it all the sweeter to see how Yui’s face twisted when Kokona offered her some of her ‘Yan-Chan approved; recipe some weeks later.)

Kokayano AU - Maid Cafe
“Hi, welcome to Maiddream!”
Saki flashed a smile in response to the slightly older girl handing out fliers to passerby before letting it drop with a sigh as she crossed the threshold of the maid cafe. Why oh why did her best friend have to drag her back here?
Don’t get her wrong, Saki was glad Kokona had some money to spend on herself after her father’s debt problem was resolved. She was even more pleased that her best friend no longer had to go out on compensated dates with older men. And she was somehow even more pleased that along the way Kokona had picked up a girlfriend that was supportive and sincere in her affections.
The only real gripe she had...was this.
“Welcome to Maiddream. May I show you to your seat?”
Said girlfriend was standing in front of them in a maid uniform with a smile that Saki knew was her ‘girlfriend’ smile. Saki couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the light blush Kokona was sporting, elbowing her in the side so they could get on with it.
“Y-yes, please.”
Ayano lightly bowed to both of them and directed them to a window seat.”My name is Yan-Chan and I will be your server today. May I take your order?”
“We’ll take the, uh, dessert platter, please Yan-Chan.”
“Coffee on the side too, if you wouldn’t mind.” As their server bowed again, Saki again couldn’t help but roll her eyes again at the googly eyes Kokona was making at her back...or how Ayano started swaying her hips in a way that invited attention.
At least the dessert platter was good.
