Ok ya’ll. 

Do you like horror stories?

Do you like stories that have man-eating mermaids?

Do you like stories where the main character is Bi and loves science and is on a vengeance quest against said man-eating mermaids?

Then boy do I have the book for you! I just finished Mira Grant’s (aka @seananmcguire ) Into the Drowning Deep and it is fucking fantastic. I read a good portion of this while waiting for the mechanic to finish putting new tires on (fuck you Minnesota winter) and literally jumped out of my chair when he came back with the bill. Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you that I don’t scare easily but this book sucked me in. I did go into it with a *small* amount of trepidation because Mira/Seanan has a tendency to rip out your heart and dance in the corn with it while she drinks your salty tears of anguish, BUT! The ones I wanted most to stay alive did but there is a fair amount of death (bloody, bloody death) in the book, so those with queasy stomach be warned.

This books makes me really wish that I could draw because there are several scenes that she renders so beautifully that I could see them in my brain. Pity that I can’t translate those images from my brain to paper. *sigh*

ANYWAY. If you’re looking for a good read, pick up this book. Help Seanan feed her cats. And she is a fucking delight.

LET ME TELL Y’ALL ABOUT THIS WRITING APP

Fighter’s Block is the best writing app I’ve come across in a long time.

You type in the amount of words you want to write and as you write, your mini lil avatar fights a monster. Each word you write acts a hit towards your monster, and once you’ve hit your word count the monster is defeated!!!

How cute!!!!

Work quick though as how long you spent not writing decreases your avatar’s health. It’s a productive fight to the death against the clock!

Best things about this app:

You can PAUSE it!!!! Need go get a cup of tea? Need to sneeze? You can!!!!!

Settings are adjustable! You can change the monster’s speed and the attacks!

You can change the theme and font!

You can level up!!!!! The number of words you write equals your EXP. You can unlock one avatar thus far, but I believe there may be more in the future!

You can minimise the fight above if it serves as a distraction, and only show the decreasing green bar.

Best of all: If you don’t hit the target word count in time, YOUR WORK DOES NOT DISAPPEAR. In the past I’ve lost so much work because I wasn’t typing fast enough, or sneezed.I cannot express enough how thankful I am that it presents a challenge where the consequence is a knock of pride and not a fit of rage.

Honestly, I urge all writers out there to give this app a go. It’s my new favourite thing.
