His Lucky Star
Awhile ago I asked for sonamy headcanons (and Iâm always hungry for more!) and I received the most beautiful headcanon from @hedgethemaze and I just had to illustrate it!
Thank you @hedgethemaze for the opportunity to draw your short story đ
You can read Hedgeâs original headcanon below the cut:
Sonic and Amyâs favorite nighttime pastime is stargazing đâââđ âđâ
Amy enjoys making out constellations and discovering new figures drawn in the sky and would occasionally make up stories with them â She knows Sonic finds this a bit childish, but appreciates that he doesnât let it show and listens to her stories, instead (even participating once in a while, throwing in some action to keep them from being too daydream-y lol).
Sometimes, looking at the stars would remind Sonic of Starfall Islands â of cyber space â of Amy being at arm's length yet, an entire plane of existence out of his reach. The thought makes him reach for her hand as they lay on their backs on the grass, with a whole new appreciation for the feel of her hand nestled in his - Amy, aware of the gnawing memory, would shift her hand and intertwine their fingers, successfully chasing the memory away.
And some other times, sheâd say those stories are just bedtime-story-practice to tell their 'future' child/children, only to tease him because thereâs nothing as amusing to her as watching Sonic go from cool blue to cherry red live in record time đ
About stargazing - it occurred to me that it could be more than likely for Sonamy to catch sight of a shooting star.
Well, I imagine Sonic would notice Amy staring at the shooting star in silence, knowingly waiting for her to say something but then the star disappears from view and he'd say "huh... kinda thought you were gonna wish something for a sec,"
Amy, realizing what he means, would jump a little on her spot next to him, they'd still be holding hands, but she scooches over and rests her head on his shoulder.
"Oh! Well, actually," she rubs her cheek on his shoulder and her grip on his hand tightens "I have everything I could wish for already."
Sonic notes she's got her eyes closed, now more interested in the warmth their bodies are sharing amidst the nightly breeze. Sonic blushes, hoping in vane she doesn't notice his body getting warmer at her statement.
"What about you? Don't you have any wishes?" Amy is genuinely curious (she can feel his awkwardness, so she doesn't tease him 'this time').
Sonic looks away, the hand that's not being held by Amy scratches a very reddish cheek, taking a deep breath to cool himself, "Nah..." the shyness quickly evaporating from his voice and he braves returning her gesture by, ever so slightly, snuggling against the top of her head. Leaving Starfall in the past, to focus on the present, Sonic's already made up his mind. "I'm good, Ames."

A/N: lately I've been thinking about how cute Xavier is 𼺠so I decided to write this. Of course I am tagging fabulous @lovelynim because I'm gifting this to her just because I love her MWAH!
This one is heavily inspired by that card where he is in bed shirtless and with bandages, but it's not based on the story of that card!
Also I don't have a title for this one dkdnf it happens
Words: 900+
Sweet, frantic laughter echoed throughout the whole room. A certain hunter was currently losing his head because another certain hunter was straddling his hips and tickling a horribly ticklish spot at the sides of his chest, right underneath his armpits. Your fingers were lethal but gentle against his bare skin, wiggling and digging and vibrating at that spot until Xavier was cackling and nearly crying. The poor man tried to grab your hands, but goodness, his arms stubbornly pressed against his sides in a futile attempt to make you stop, so his hands were quite useless at the moment.Â
Xavier tried to get up, he squirmed from side to side and arched his back, he also kicked his legs behind you, but it was all worthless because your fingers seemed to be glued to his sensitive skin, refusing to let him go so you could listen to his beautiful laughter.Â
"What do we have here?â You said with rather a happy expression. âIs my cute little Xavier ticklish?"
Xavier shook his head and he tried to hold back his laughter, but a quick vibration of your fingers in that spot made him throw his head back with cackles. "PLEHEASE!â He begged, his face and ears pink. âI dihihihidnât- ahahahaha!"
"He really is ticklish! Look at that big smile! Wakey wakey, Xav! It's time to get up!â You teased, giggling to yourself as you saw his nose scrunching up and his beautiful smile curling his lips up.
Maybe you were being a little mean at the moment. He had just woken up not even twenty minutes ago and you were torturing him like thisâ did he deserve it? Probably not, but who would stop you? Certainly not him.Â
You chuckled, âYou really are extremely ticklish, Xavier. That's too dangerous,â you said with a fake worried voice, grinning down at him. âWhat will you do if you ever encounter a wanderer that releases tickling gas? You wouldn't be able to make it to the hospital, that is for sure!â
Xavier wrapped his arms around himself and weakly tried to push your hands away from him when he found your wrists, but he didn't have any strength laughing like that.Â
âBut don't worry, my star,â you continued, wiggling your fingers in. âIâll definitely get the medicine all the way to where you are! You can count on me for that and more! I'm really good, right?â You giggled as he weakly nodded his head.Â
He really looked so pretty laughing like that. Was it the first time you ever saw him like this? It was like watching a child giggle, your heart swelled in your chest and happiness overflowed you. You looked down at him with fond eyes and a warm smile.Â
âOh no, Xavier,â you said over his laughter, playfulness dripping from your words. âI really can't stop⌠I want to see you laughing forever.â
Xavier shook his head, âI cahahan't laugh fohohorever, I wihihill dihihie! WAHAHAIT!âÂ
It was easy to quickly pin one of his arms above his head and the other under your knee. You didn't immediately start tickling him, wanting to give him a break for him to catch his breath, but Xavier was laughing and squirming around as if you were attacking him already.Â
âWhat's so funny, Xav? I'm not doing anything, am I?âÂ
âI- I knohohow, b-buhut it tihickles alreheady!âÂ
Warmth spread across your cheeks and something akin to thick honey filled your chest. How could he be so adorable like this? You giggled softly, leaning down to kiss his nose.Â
âAnd it's gonna tickle even more!âÂ
Xavier threw his head back with frantic, loud laughter. He tightly shut his eyes, squeezing little tears of laughter out. His arms pulled, but you were holding him nicely and there was no way to go for him. Scribbling, poking, digging, pinching, you made sure to tickle his exposed underarm as best as you could and he went crazy under your touch, kicking his legs and trying to roll on his side.Â
âPLEHEHEASE NOHOHOHO!âÂ
âXavier,â you said in a rather serious tone. âThis is very important. What technique tickles the most? I'm gonna do them all again, but slower okay? Here it goes!âÂ
Needless to say, Xavier was unable to say which technique tickled the most. Halfway through that, between squeals and snorts, his laughter became silent and that was your cue to stop. Xavier lay in bed, exhausted and chuckling as if your hands were still searching for that charming laugh of his, but you were lying next to him with your head in your hand, looking at him with that loving smile that always made him blush.Â
âI⌠actually didn't know I was ticklishâŚ,â he admitted sheepishly, looking at you with tender eyes and a smile on his lips.Â
You raised both eyebrows, âwhat? You didn't? Then was I the first person to ever tickle you?â He nodded and you giggled. âIt must be my lucky day then! How was it?âÂ
Xavier hesitated, âWellâŚâÂ
âEek!âÂ
In a moment, you were facing the ceiling, Xavier straddling you as his fingers found their way under your arms. Your laugh was embarrassingly loud, but you couldn't help it.
âI think I should live the full experience before deciding if I liked it or not. Of course that includes returning the favor. Tell me, is this how you did it? Oh, I forgot that I have to raise your arms, right?â
You definitely asked for this, but it was worth it. After all, him attacking you back didn't erase the fact that he was still ticklish and you still had many other tickle spots to try out!

64. With Sonic and Tails đâ¨ď¸đ
64. "I'll stay until you fall asleep."
Set right before the epilogue of "Sometimes the Picket Fence isn't Perfect"
âLights out in ten, little buddy!âÂ
Sonic called down to the workshop at twenty minutes past nine.Â
At a quarter to ten, freshly showered with quills and teeth brushed, he noted that his little brotherâs room was still empty.Â
âCâmon, Tails! Whatever gizmo youâre working on can wait,â Sonic hollered for him again.
âIâll be up in a minute!â the six-year-old shouted back.
âYouâre out of minutes, keed. Thatâs what you shoulda said half an hour ago.â
âYou were in the shower! How do you know that I didnât?â
With a snort, Sonic shook his head. âAlright, smart guy. Five minutes,â he chuckled, then headed into the living room and flopped onto the couch with every intention of waiting for Tails to scamper his fluffy, two-tailed behind up the workshop steps and into bed.
He hadnât meant to fall asleep.
Five minutes to midnight, Sonic jerked awake mid-snore. He couldnât tell what woke him, only that the light in the living room was still on and his hand was asleep from where heâd had it pinned beneath his head. Flexing his fingers, the pins and needles traveled up his arm as blood flow returned to each digit. Sonic sat up with a wince, then stretched his arm out and stood from the couch. He sleepily shuffled over to turn out the lamp and head to bed properly. He needed a good nightâs sleep in preparation for tomorrowâ
A loud clang came from downstairs.
Sonicâs fingers stilled on the light switch as his ears swiveled towards the basement door. A glance at the clock assured him of the hour while he listened, decently sure he heard the sound of somethingâor someoneâscurrying around below him. Humming to himself, he flicked the switch off. A strip of light crept up the wooden steps from the workshop. With a sigh, Sonic padded down the steps, purposefully stepping on the creakiest boards along the way.
He heard a soft gasp, then a muffled metallic thump from inside the Tornado. Sonic placed his hand on his hip as he fixed the biplane with a drowsy, but ultimately unimpressed, stare. He tapped his socked foot against the concrete floor, mentally counting to five before heaving another sigh as he strolled over to the Tornadoâs fuselage.
âLook, big guy, I get it. Iâm not usually a stickler for this kinda thing, but we do have a pretty important appointment tomorrow. Getting a good nightâs sleep would probably be in our best interest, wouldnât you say?â Sonic leaned against the plane, drumming his fingers against the red paint. âIâm sure whatever the Tornado needs can wait until tomorrow. You keep her in great shape.â
Tails didnât say anything.
Sonicâs heart skipped a traitorous beat against his better judgment, fingers drumming a little bit faster to keep up. Heâd heard Tails. He was in hereâhe knew he was. He hadnât taken off in the middle of the night while he was sleepingâ
âCâmon, bud. You really want me to play the bad guy? âCuz I will. Iâll do it.â Though he forced it into his voice, his grin didnât come so easily.Â
Eager to change that, Sonic hopped his way up onto the top wing. He hooked his knees around the edge of it and leaned backwards so he dangled upside down, facing the cockpit. His grin turned devilish as he prepared to nab himself one sneaky little fox. Except when his eyes landed on Tails, Sonic couldnât exactly bring himself to.
Tails was huddled on the floor of the cockpit, halfway under the seat. He had his toolkit open beside him, working on the underside of the console. His hands trembled as he focused on tightening a bolt that didnât need tightening. His wrench slipped out of his shaky grip, clattering loudly against the metal body of the plane when it fell. Both Sonic and Tailsâs ears flattened with a wince, the latter fumbling to pick it back up for something to grip tightly.
âHey, bud.â Sonic tilted his head as Tails made a point not to meet his gaze.
âIâll go to bed in a minute,â Tails answered quickly. âI just need to finish this first. Canât leave a job half-finished.â
ââCanât?â Or âwonât?ââ
âSonic, please. This is important.â His attempt at sounding stern was undermined by his own voice wavering, so Sonic promptly switched tactics to help put his little brotherâs mind at ease.Â
âThen how âbout I help? I still know my way around the Tornado. Just tell me what needs screwing or wrenching and Iâll take care of it faster than you can say âSpeed Highway,â keed,â he offered.Â
Tails lowered the wrench to his lap, ears and tails drooping pitifully in direct contrast to the way he finally lifted his gaze. Sonicâs smile faltered. Oh. The fear he saw reflected in them dug its claws into him, tugging at the niggling worries and what-ifs heâd been trying so hard to ignore himself since heâd started the whole guardianship process.
âThatâs the whole point, isnât it?â Sonic mused. âYouâre trying not to go to sleep.â
Tails rubbed the curve of the wrench with his index finger, glancing down at it as he shrugged with one shoulder. âIf I stay up, then tomorrow wonât come as fast,â he admitted. âAt least it wonât feel like it.â
Sonicâs muzzle twisted to one side, the sympathetic look lopsided as he continued to hang upside down. âHate to break it to you, kiddo, but tomorrowâs kinda already here.â
Tails dropped his head with a heavy nod. âI know⌠Guess I just figured I could keep working on the Tornado, you know. Just in caseâŚâ
Even if the blood hadnât been rushing to his head, Sonic couldnât leave Tails curled up on the floor of the cockpit on his own. He heaved himself back upright with a grunt, then swung down into the cockpit seat. Tails ducked to avoid getting kicked in the head, only for Sonic to nab him around the middle and hoist him up onto the seat with him, dragging him into the V of his legs, back to chest.
âWorried about the court hearing, huh?â Sonic asked gently, and it was that gentleness that broke Tailsâs resolve. He nodded, allowing himself to be cradled as he relinquished the wrench in favor of grabbing onto Sonicâs arms when they wrapped around him. âItâs gonna be okay, Tails. We quadruple-checked the paperwork before we submitted it, didnât we? Thereâs no way theyâre dinging us on that.â
âWhat if thatâs still not enough?â Tails drew his knees up, curling up in a defensive ball for comfort. âWhat if they say I canât stay with you? Only eleven percent of kids in foster care in Station Squareâs district exit due to guardianship, you know.âÂ
âYouâre breaking out the statistics on me? Since when have statistics ever stopped Sonic the Hedgehog?â
âDo you actually want an answer to that?â Tails asked.Â
âNo,â Sonic said simply, then gave it some genuine thought. âOnly eleven percent, you say?â He waited for Tailsâs nod, then continued, âOkay, then whatâs the rest of the breakdown look like? Whatâs the highest percentage for kids getting the heck outta foster care?â
Tails squirmed in his lap. âReunificationâŚâ
âWhich isâŚ?â
Tails sighed heavily. âKids going back to their parents.â
âSo not something we gotta worry about,â Sonic replied with his whole chest out, all the confidence in the world in a single sentence. âWhatâs next?â
âAdoption.â
âJust a fancier way to do what weâre doing here,â Sonic tacked on. âWhat else?â
âThe rest of the data is classified as âother,â with less than one percent unaccounted for entirely.â
âSo sounds like that eleven percent ainât too shabby!â Sonic ruffled Tailsâs fur, and while the kid didnât bat him away, he didnât look any more cheered up either.
âArenât you scared at all? This could be our last night together. Everything could change again, just because some stuffy grown-ups think they know better than us, but they donât! They donât know anything!â
âHey, hey, hey,â Sonic soothed, smoothing his mussed up fur back down with a softer touch. ââCourse Iâm scared, bud.â
âYou are?â
âYou bet. This definitely makes the top five scariest things Iâve ever done,â he chuckled, then swallowed past the thick layer of fear gumming up his throat. âBut Iâm not about to let it bother me, âcuz at the end of the day, itâs not gonna matter.â
âOf course it mattersâ!â Tails twisted around in his arms to face him, ready to argue, but was stopped when Sonic tapped him on the nose. âSonic,â he whined.
âIt matters if it works,â Sonic clarified. âBut if it doesnât, then you and me are gonna hightails it to the Tornado and crash with Knuckles on Angel Island until we're just a footnote in their cold case files.â He already had their backpack packed, tucked in the back of his closet, not that he wanted Tails to think there was any doubt this would all work out in their favor. âNothingâs gotta change, bud. Except for maybe a change of scenery.â
Tails observed him quietly, fluffed up fur settling as his breathing steadied with some semblance of a plan in place. âBut you donât like Angel Island.â
âI never said that.â
Tails arched a brow, letting him know, in no uncertain terms, that he didnât have to say as much. âThere arenât any chili dogs up there.â
Sonic rolled his eyes with a snort and flicked his forehead. âIâll live.â
Leaning back, Tails rubbed at the spot between his eyes with a mutinous little glare that made Sonic want to squish his face between his paws. He refrained as the look turned more pensive, Tails quietly contemplative. Sonic tried to match the expression, albeit in his own goofy way, puffing out his own cheeks and going cross-eyed until Tails took notice.
The kid ignored him. âYou really mean it?â
Sonic broke character, his turn to cast a skeptical look Tailsâs way before he shrugged. âSure. Itâs not exactly a small price to pay, but chili dogs arenât the end all, be all. I can get by for a few months without âemââ
âNo, I meantâŚâ There was a slight furrow to Tailsâs brow as he searched Sonicâs face, as though it would tell him the right words to say if he could only capture a glimpse of sincerity. âNevermind.â
Sonic dropped the teasing. âI know what you meant,â he assured him. âOf course, I really meant it. I just got you back, little bro. Iâm not about to let someone else try to separate us. We tried playing by their rules. We did the best we could and if thatâs not good enough for them, itâs no oneâs fault but theirs. Weâre a team. Youâre my family.â
Tails swallowed, then ducked his head and snuggled close, wrapping both arms and tails around him to secure his hold. Sonic hugged him back with a warm chuckle, scritching his fingers against the base of his spine. They truly had done everything in their power to secure this guardianship. The packet had already been submitted, interviews conducted, and home inspection signed, sealed, and delivered to the judgeâs desk. The decision was already made, their court appointment merely a formality.
But Sonic had long ago decided that this kid was his, and that trumped any court order theyâd try to stamp on them.
âCâmon, little bro. Letâs say goodnight to the Tornado and call it a night.â
âOkay. All the updates I wanted to do are already finished, I just⌠didnât want to leave her.â
Sonic let him go, but Tails just grabbed onto his hand and flew him up out of the biplane. âI get it. What kinda updates didja give her?â
âNothing major,â Tails replied, letting Sonic get the light before they headed up the stairs. âIt was just stuff Iâd been meaning to get to, refreshing the landing gear and tightening the turn radius. I didnât want her to give you any trouble in case I wasnât gonna be⌠you knowâŚâ
They stopped at the top of the steps, Tails giving a nervous little shrug as he let the silence speak for him. Sonic glanced back down at the darkened workshop, then closed the door with a firm click. Too fast for Tails to avoid, he hoisted him up and slung him over his shoulder like he was nothing more than a sack of chili beans. The kid squealed, kicking the air as he dangled upside down.
âSonic! You suck!â he complained, though it didnât carry any weight when he was trying hard to hold back his laughter. âNo fair!â
âOne sec! Just gotta shake all these worries outta your head, little bro, thatâs all!â Sonic jiggled him back and forth, squeaky giggles spilling out as Tails struggled to get his bearings.
His twin tails started spinning in an attempt to lift the two of them up off the floor, but he ended up just thwacking Sonic in the face repeatedly until they were both laughing themselves silly. Sonic managed to haul him into his room and unceremoniously dumped him on his bed. Tails immediately lunged for the edge in an escape attempt, but Sonic was too quick. He had him practically swaddled in a Sonic Second; arms, legs, and tails all tucked in the tangle of his bed sheets.
âAnd the big brother reigns supreme!â Sonic planted one foot on the bed as he struck a victory pose, while Tails stuck his tongue out at him and blew a raspberry. âNo one likes a sore loser, keed.â
âYouâre one to talk.â
Sonic hopped down and ruffled his fur, Tails unable to do anything about it when he was tucked in so snuggly. His grumbly little noises gradually tapered off as Sonicâs touch gentled into something less like a noogie and more like soft petting. Something to soothe him after just riling him up.
Sonic scritched behind his ear, watching the playful glare fade from his eyes. They were still far from sleepy, big and fixated on him with a look Sonic was all-too familiar with. Like if he closed his eyes for even a second, heâd disappear forever.
Sonic sat down on the edge of the bed. âIâll stay until you fall asleep,â he told him. âThat okay with you, bud?â
Tailsâs muzzle quivered, but he still nodded, wiggling a little in his blanket cocoon. Sonic tugged on the covers so they werenât so tight, giving the kid some room to breathe. Once his hands were free, Tails fisted them in the sheets and drew them up under his chin snuggly. Sonic shifted so he could sit criss-cross applesauce beside him, one hand settling atop his head to continue stroking the fur between his ears. He was thinking about a song to hum, something to distract from the churning sea of worries and fear Tailsâs mind was still adrift on.
Before he settled on something, a soft voice said, âWill you stay forever?â
It was sweet, sickeningly so, but that didnât stop it from breaking Sonicâs heart like brittle, hard candy against a stone. âYou bet,â he promised. âYour big broâs not going anywhere.â
Tails reached up, curling his fingers around Sonicâs wrist, the pad of his thumb resting over his pulse point. Though his heart rate was always racing with a little extra speed even at rest, on and off throughout the night heâd been experiencing the occasional rush of anxiety-induced adrenaline. Each passing second carried them close to their end goal, or would time them out of their time together entirely. Game over.
Shifting his hold, Tails gave Sonicâs paw his own reassuring squeeze. âIf they tried to separate us, Iâd come find you.â
A sideways smile quirked his muzzle. âI donât doubt it, bud. But Iâd like to see âem try.â Sonic slid down so he could recline on his side, stretched out along the length of the bed. âTheyâd have to catch us first.â
Tails made a tch sound and scooted over to give Sonic more room. âIn their dreams.â
âYou tell âem, Tails,â Sonic chuckled. âAnd speaking of dreamsâŚâ
âI know,â Tails sighed dramatically, rolling onto his side and pinning Sonicâs hand beneath his cheek. âSure picked a time to start acting like a bossy big brother.â
âJust practicing for the greatest role of my career.â Sonic grinned. âGotta give the people what they want.â
âWho cares what they want?â Tailsâs eyes closed, an annoyed crease in his brow. âYouâre already pretty great to me.â
It was that kind of sappy stuff that made Sonic not mind so much that his hand was likely about to go numb again by being the kidâs pillow. âJust âpretty great?ââ
âWell, you did just throw me over your shoulder like a sack of potatoes.â
âSorry, keed. You want a big bro, getting tossed around comes with the territory,â Sonic teased. âBesides, you got your revenge.â
âThat was only phase one.â
âOh yeah? Whatâs phase two?â
Tails snorted. âIâm not telling you. Itâs gotta come when you least expect it.â
âHm. Sounds dangerous,â Sonic hummed, letting his eyes close with a smirk. âLooks like Iâll just have to keep on my toes then.âÂ
âAnd sleep with one eye open,â Tails snickered.
âThat doesnât sound ominous at all.â
Tails giggled as Sonic rubbed his side through the blanket before draping his arm over him for an extra layer of security. âGoodnight, Sonic.â
ââNight, Tails.â
