Here are the bonus pages from Waterstones’edition of How the king of elfhame learned to hate stories. I repay in kind the people who once shared Cardan’s letters with us. Enjoy!

THIS oh my god... THANK YOU for speaking up 💖💖
I saw a part where it was said that we know Bryce has hips and a butt and boobs but it’s not specified whether she has a flat stomach and to me I liked the morgana0anagrom art because truthfully girls like me who are on the curvier side but still has a small waist from spending years working out exist. I pictured Bryce to be like me and again it’s nice to see a protagonist who isn’t thin but also works on her body to be the best version of the body type she was born with. 1/2
2/2 the way I picture her is one thing but the way someone else pictures her is completely different and that’s fine by me. At the end of the day we picture her the way sarah describes her and whatever isn’t described we use our imagination. There is no wrong answer on that part. There’s no body shaming happening in my opinion
Okay non I will try to keep this all respectful and as nice as I can be but I really disagree with your line of reasoning here
-Of course girls like you exist. All bodies are valid! Bodies come in all shapes and sizes. I have friends who have large breasts and small waists. Of course it happens.
-but that Morganao art really just takes that to another level…Bryce’s proportions in that look so unnatural, so like what Kim Kardashian has achieved only through having plastic surgery, endless nutritionists and stylists and trainers at her beck and call that I just…can’t really be into it. If that isn’t thin then what is? Seriously that morganao art depicts Bryce as like not having room for her organs….that’s….NOT WHAT THE TEXT SAYS.
-And while it’s nice that you feel represented by it, if that is what your body is like, then you probably see bodies like yours everywhere! You are not lacking representation! Congrats, you have the conventionally attractive body type. You are represented in tons of fanart! Because a quick look through morganao’s ig shows that she depicts basically every female body as being thin, with tits. Seriously, her Bryce just happens to be wearing a tight dress that accentuates her curves, but she has a body super similar to everything else morganao draws. Sorry that I can’t be excited about or want to support art that takes the one bigger maas character we have and draws her like…EVERYONE ELSE SHE DRAWS?
-This is one of the moments where it’s like…THIS IS REALLY NOT ABOUT YOU NON.  If you have tits and ass and a small waist then CONGRATULATIONS? I mean, not to be mean, I truly do understand that every woman feels the pressure of unrealistic and impossible beauty standards, but you’re basically saying that you have met those standards! Great! Good job. I’m sorry you felt you had to meet them, I’m sorry that you probably worked your ass off literally to meet them, and still don’t feel represented. But bodies like the way you describe yours ARE represented everywhere so idk!
-It’s difficult for me to feel sympathetic when you haven’t offered any real sympathy towards women who don’t feel represented which is who I was directing my posts at.
-Instead you’ve said “I pictured Bryce to be like me and again it’s nice to see a protagonist who isn’t thin but also works on her body to be the best version of the body type she was born with.” What the fuck? I mean really, the “best version?” What does that even mean? Who determines the best version? Who decides what that is? Because it sounds like you’re feeling all great and superior to women who have curves because YOU have worked HARD to tame your body into a version closer to the patriarchal standard of beauty! that makes me…sad? That you feel that way? idk. But working out doesnt make any body better than any other body.
-Look non. If you don’t feel represented by most fanart, and you have a body like the one in morganao’s Bryce art then…well, don’t you figure that there’s something super fucked up with a system that makes even women who have CONVENTIONALLY ATTRACTIVE physiques feel badly about themselves, no matter how much they see themselves represented? Wouldn’t you then want to support art that represents unconventionally attractive body types? Wouldn’t you want to support art that represents different bodies instead of art that REPRESENTS A CURVY WOMAN THE SAME WAY SHE HAS REPRESENTED EVERY OTHER SIZE 4 CHARACTER?
-I am actually speaking from the perspective of someone who is a size 6! I am small! I have a pretty conventionally attractive body. I have curves! I have a smaller waist than my hips. At the same time, I have fat! I have a lot of chub. And I know that my body is so much more accepted than other bodies, and yet! my body is not represented by hardly ANY fanart, because my body has fat on it!
-But if I feel unrepresented and if you feel unrepresented then…WOW IMAGINE HOW WOMEN WHO ARE PLUS SIZED FEEL? IMAGINE HOW WOMEN WITH DIFFERENTLY ABLED BODIES FEEL? way worse, way more underrepresented.
-So…Maas finally gives us a character who is described as SOFT and CURVY and has an ass like a heliport or something and who HAS BEEN MADE TO FEEL LIKE HER BODY IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH and NOT CONVENTIONALLY ATTRACTIVE and then….artists depict her as conventionally attractive anyway, ripping away any chance for legitimate representation of a woman with fat in fan art. And you want me to not be upset about this? You want me to not be pissed?? Nah. I’d rather use my platform here, and my privilege as a fairly conventionally sized woman to advocate for people who feel less represented than I do.
-I’ll reiterate what I said in another post
art and creative output is NOT WITHOUT POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS
morganaoanagrom and many other artists choosing to uphold the patriarchal standards of western beauty in their art TIME AGAIN ENDLESSLY is a choice with actual political implications and it is a choice that has the power to affect others. Art matters. Art has great potential to be political. When an artist chooses to represent women only as conventionally attractive, and only as thin, then that says A LOT about how that artist thinks women should look/and what they consider to be beautiful! As a viewer of the art, as someone who actually knows a lot about art and being an art critic, I get to decide if I like it or not, and I get to comment on the political implications and meaning of that art if and when I choose.
and I fucking detest that artwork of Bryce. That’s it. I think it demonstrates that morganao thinks women who are “curvy” and also “beautiful” can only be both if they have no fat aside from their tits and ass. I think it demonstrates that she is very biased. I think it demonstrates a lack of willingness on her part to deprogram her brain from equating thin with pretty. I think it demonstrates her lack of critical reading skills. I think that sure, readers can imagine characters however they’d like, but uh….HOW YOUR BRAIN IMAGINES THINGS ISN’T IN ITSELF GOOD. YOUR BRAIN HAS BEEN PROGRAMMED TO THINK BEAUTY MEANS A CERTAIN THING. It’s like….not everything you imagine and think is inherently good??? It’s like the whole reason we have a ton of white washed fan arts of fenrys isn’t because artists are TRYING TO BE RACIST, it’s because THEIR BRAINS HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED TO BE RACIST, AND TO THINK THAT ONLY WHITE CAN EQUAL BEAUTIFUL, and that white is the standard! Same reasoning applies to Bryce here
You can imagine her all you’d like, but that doesn’t mean your imagination is uh, somehow free of eurocentric beauty standards? It’s not!
And non, I think that maybe you equating “years working out” and your “small waist” to the “best version of the body type” you could have, demonstrates that you need to maybe unlearn the self-hate and body shame you’ve been fed by the capitalist patriarchal hellhole we all exist in? I don’t know you and your story, but from what you’ve said in your questions, it seems like you feel as if your body is only the “best” if you work out a ton and have a small waist. I am sorry. That’s not true at all. Your best version of your body is not the one that is the most conventionally attractive. It’s the version you truly love the most, the one that holds your soul gently.
Your body is perfect as it is, because it’s yours. That goes to all of my followers, no matter who you are and what you look like!!
I’m sorry this all sounds so harsh but…I am just enthusiastic about this topic.

hi guys!! I’m alive and quite frankly a little disappointed with how this book ended
it was an interesting read and I enjoyed the representation in it. however... I’m a little done with ‘I’m not like other girls’ and the lack of chemistry really got me on #teamgrey ;’)
if you read this book, what did you think?

idlyiwaly: i do love you. i will always love you.
iyilismomlgmhigiswticbatidhoaaeniiasweastbiiy: it’s you i love. i spent much of my life guarding my heart. i guarded it so well that i could behave as though i didn’t have one at all. even now, it is a shabby, worm-eaten, and scabrous thing. but it is yours.

cressworth had to live through both world wars, if I’m not dumb
they’re like 18 in 1889 right? so when ww1 came (1914) they’d still be 43 and hopefully alive
and when ww2 came (1939) they’d be 68 and hopefully still alive
but maybe not because although Thomas would be too old to enlist and wouldn’t die in battle (thank god) millions of civilians died
