And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear?...It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity." . . . Thinking on how I cannot march today because I’m in school working my hardest to learn the skills necessary to continue the work I have been doing more effectively. Reflecting on moments of peace but also moments of rage. Riot police in my face telling me if we don’t go home we will be arrested; police hands on my body; cuffs on my wrists. I think on my father, his advocacy, and memories of him being thrown to the ground by police. I know that peace cannot be the only answer. I look forward to returning to my communities with the ability to see clearly and act effectively. Resistance is not a moment, it is our lives. I love my people more than I love myself.
