I see people (that write about anime & animation in general) on Tumblr still haven't matured past the belief that animation studios are singular unchanging entities that produce consistent quality.
If you're a casual type of fan I completely get it because who cares - this is lame nerd shit at the end of the day. But if you're writing long serious reviews I stop taking it seriously when you imply that, for example, Studio Bones that produced Metallic Rogue is the same singular entity that produced Mob Psycho 100 or FMA2003.
Anime is produced by people with their own varying talent and output, a huge percentage of them being freelance. The anime industry has been a developing mess in the past decade+ so turnover is huge as well (it's a very predatory industry where producers rely on animators' passion to keep them going rather than inciting them with decent pay and work rates).
The way big sakuga productions eg. Mob Psycho 100, JJK s2 (definitely not at the same level as these other picks but I'm biased and I love Gosso), OPM s1, Space Dandy, etc. work is if a guy knows a guy who knows a guy (etc.) gathers everyone around, and all those people have to be good at their respective jobs, and the production schedule has to allow them enough breathing room so that their creative vision is realized.
In short, literally stars have to align and you have to hope a talented producer and/or director with connections to other talented animators has to actually like a project on a personal level.
I admit it takes a bit of effort to get some anime production literacy. but damn if I don't take mental damage when people say shit like 'Wow good job Trigger!' on an animation cut from a freelance guy with a very obvious idiosyncratic style who animated that shit from his bedroom
The constant rolling disaster that is Overwatch's game development aside, what really perplexes me about how Blizzard is handing the broader franchise is their continual insistence that a canon narrative exists in spite of their equally continual refusal to tell anyone what it is.
Like, okay, the events of the games aren't canon. Fair enough: the games are multiplayer-only, and you can't account for player actions.
Oh, and the animated short films aren't canon either – they're properly understood as in-universe propaganda, not depictions of actual events. That's a little high concept for you guys, but fine.
But surely the comics are canon, right? Well, no; some of the comics (we're not telling you which ones) were canon at one point, but the writing team has decided to go in a different direction.
My dudes, what is left? The weird Source Filmmaker porn? Is that canon? Well, apparently it's at least as canon as anything else!

whenever you ask your friend who’s really into JRPGs “hey which one do i start with is the newest one fine” they always go “no, what you gotta do is head on over to ebay and look up the entry that completely bombed commercially. You’ll see that it goes for $800. Close ebay. Download an emulator for a console no younger than 17 years old. Download the ROM, and also this laundry list of various tweaks, retextures, and QoL tweaks. Pull up this exact spoiler-free guide put up a decade ago from GameFAQs, and you’ll experience the best game this series has to offer.” Like???
