For some reason, it never stops the sting when someone assumes Nick is his son. The resemblance is there, of course, and it gets ever more painfully obvious the older that Nick gets. James has long ago given up on correcting strangers, because what use would that be, explaining the whole convoluted story? “Technically, he’s my son, but no one knows because everyone thinks he’s my nephew. Yes, I fucked my brother’s wife, thanks for asking.” James has a funny feeling that that won’t go over so well.
❝ He’s five next month. Funny how they grow up so fast, huh? ❞ He forces a smile, but the pain behind his eyes is evident. He’s too tired to conceal it. As he talks, he doesn’t even bother to look up at the stranger; instead, his gaze is fixed on his expensive new shoes that he doesn’t even remember buying.
yes, funny how they grow so fast — her baby would be grown by now. hell, edie’s baby would have babies of her own, who may have babies of their own by now ... there is an ache deep at her core whenever she thinks about it. her baby, her baby ... there is a hole in her arms and in her heart for the child that never was, “yes. funny,” edie murmurs as her gaze lists off. it’s too much for her to watch the boy anymore.
instead, edie fixates upon the man, “— i’d always wanted to be a mother ... do you have any other children at home?”

Adelaide smirked at her statement, before shrugging, chugging more beer, before placing down the mug. “Helps make my job easier.” Not that it was really that hard to begin with. “Well, is there anything you’d like, then?” The archangel asked, seeing how the rest of this was settled.
an untrimmed nail taps at the glass: lips twinge into a faint smile, “i’m set with this,” watery and unsatisfying, what could be better? “actually, i need another pair of eyes,” the specter leans forward, her gaze unwavering from the bar, “have you seen anything ... unusual? just anything that could be considered — alarming, among the customers tonight?”

𝘈𝘓𝘔𝘖𝘚𝘛 𝘌𝘔𝘉𝘈𝘙𝘙𝘈𝘚𝘚𝘌𝘋 , nessarose glances down at her own shoes . truthfully , they weren’t as in style as they had once been – and she had noticed that the fashion here was far different from what was considered beautiful in oz .
❛ oh – thank you , ❜ she says , having noticed the surprised look upon the girl’s face . if the story behind them was told , how they were one of the last gifts that she had received from her father , the reaction likely would have been less hostile . ❛ they were from my father ; the beads are made of glass , and he blew them himself . sometimes , in the light , they’ll change colors . ❜
odd as they are, those shoes are nicer than anything found in edie’s wardrobe. oh, to dance on rubies! they may be bright red, but eden is practically turning a nasty green with envy, although she continues to bear a smile, “i don’t mean to be so brash but i’d love to see! oh please! if you wouldn’t mind showing them off?” head tilts with a soft gleam in her eyes; it’s as if they have become a paler shade of chocolate than her intense, dark hue.

anonymous asked: are there exceptions to when someone can grasp edie? (if someone is possibly non-human like edie for example)
— RANDOM QUESTIONS
*tik tok vc* you’re asking about my theories?? i’ve waited for YEARS for someone to ask me about my theories!!
so to address the example you mentioned, it depends i guess? if the non-human entity is similar to a ghost/poltergeist/demon, i think they could touch edie. assuming they’re all existing in the same realm/physical plane. as for other exceptions, if it’s someone that edie has grown to trust over a period of time? she would let that person touch her first — especially if it’s in a moment of intimacy.

if you reach out to touch edie, you cannot grasp her — like everything else in edie’s afterlife. what you perceive of her will be her decision. if she touches you, it’s like the touch of any other person ... if they were touching you with an ice cube in their palm. nevertheless, it will be solid.

— CORPSE BRIDE SENTENCE STARTERS .
he’s a sweet boy, young — younger than her, and edie was sent to the grave long, long before a gray hair could be plucked from her head, she doesn’t feel young, however; her heart is bare and heavy and half of it still lays in the earth with her. but aladdin ... well, there is a future for him, and edie doubts that they will ever cross paths again — should he keep his fair heart and stay kind. “there’s nothing that can be done for me,” a thin finger sticks out from the layer of veils, pointing at aladdin’s chest, “all you can do is spare your own self ... do you have a girl waiting at home?”
