It definitely took Liam some time to accept it...

➴ Mason knows that when Liam is like this, it’s better to let him be, that any touch can be seen as a threat, and Liam’s not great when dealing with threats. Especially when his eyes glow and his teeth can grow long and sharp in a matter of seconds.

“He was a terrible person, and I shouldn’t be feeling this way about him—from every sane angle, I shouldn’t.”

“And what are those sane angles?” Hums Mason, throwing his head back. Liam shrugs.

“I don’t know. Moral ones?”

“Liam, from moral angles, parents shouldn’t abuse their kids, and kids shouldn’t get cancer. There should be no car accidents and no wars. But it happens, right? That’s life,” Mason pauses. “You think it’s just because he is… well, Theo—or there is another reason?”

That makes Liam frown. He tilts his head just so he can see Mason, and breathes out a small, “What?”

“Look, I get that when a person saves your fluffy ass over and over again, you might start seeing them from a different angle, and that when you fight for your lives back-to-back for weeks, certain truths and… fluids might be exchanged,” this time, the smirk on Mason’s lips is very real, “so that makes me believe that the guilt that is eating at you now isn’t the product of Theo’s splendid history with us, but… I don’t really know. Something else?” Mason rubs his neck. “When did you start getting all hot and bothered for our pet-psycho, by the way?”

Mason manages to poke the sore spot without even trying, and Liam goes back to hiding behind his knees. There is a silence, and then Mason whistles—to the best of his lung capacity, which has never been much.

“That’s it, isn’t it? It’s not just who, it’s the when, too!”
