Guess who’s a judge for the @gollancz Rivers of London BAME SFF award! I'm thrilled to be involved with an award that celebrates and offers support for aspiring BAME writers of sci-fi and fantasy. As a huge fan of the genre, it's important to recognise the lack of diversity and the need for initiatives to tackle this problem. This award provides right encouragement to writers from under-represented backgrounds to tell their stories and I am really looking forward to discovering exciting new voices through it. https://ift.tt/2TGT8JU

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
I was really interested in reading The Bear and the Nightingaleafter it seeing it suggested for fans of Uprooted, one of my favorite books. In the end, I found this is hard to rate given that it was very good in some places and less so in others. The first quarter I didn’t care for. I’ve never really enjoyed things with a hungry and cold atmosphere and have had trouble with other books set in…

Diane's Favorite Books of 2016
Diane’s Favorite Books of 2016
One of my favorite things to read from other bloggers is their favorite books of the year. I’ve read so many amazing books this year, many of my favorites were not new releases. Like The Realm of the Elderlings books by Robin Hobb, in which I still have two more series in that world to finish. For the purposes of this list I will stick to new releases, so here it is, my 5 Favorite New Releases of…

My favourite Lorelai Gilmore moments! (gifs + giveaway included) #talkingasfastasican @viragobooks @thelaurengraham
I think anyone knows me knows that I’m at least 1/3 Gilmore Girl. I basically live and breathe the series and I constantly am watching it over, and over again. So, it’s safe to say I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of the blog tour for Lauren Graham’s new book, Talking As Fast As I Can From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (And Everything In Between). I discovered the Gilmore Girls at…

Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
Brandon Sanderson’s cosmere universe is large and can seem intimidating from the outside. Many recommend  Mistborn as a good starting place. Elantris  gets my vote. Some practical reasons for this: Elantris is a stand-alone. Mistborn is a trilogy with each book on the long side. And while his Stormlight Archives are my absolute favorite, the learning curve on the world building is pretty high.…
