so I've been thinking about Gil-galad lately (as you do) and. well. there's a horrifying prospect that the fandom seems to be sleeping on. namely:
and where he dwelleth none can say
if he had been reembodied, or if he was in the Halls of Mandos, don't you think at least some people would be able to say where he was?

Elven word of the day, 138/?
Emma from Quenya
Meaning “picture”
Related words: indemma meaning “mind picture” (including apparitions in dreams). Tolkien conceived this word also to describe images shared telepathically
quantemma meaning “facsimile”, literal translation: full picture

Genuine question:
Can Elves die of an infected wound?
I mean they can of course die of wounds and poison (hello kinslaying and Aredhel), but they don't get sick from illnesses, which are mostly caused by microbial infections.
So let's say someone got a really bad cut that wasn't treated well in time, would they risk infection or does the elf immune system compensate? Do they even have antibiotics like penicillin? I mean, of course they would use herbs with antibiotic properties and Songs of Power but would it be possible for it to be something a healer discovered.

I think mortal children raised in Rivendell should get to have a lil' outdated set of cultural references, as a treat.
Aragorn swears by the Grinding Ice (he got it from Glorfindel). The other rangers are slightly amused. He hums songs that sound strange coming from a human mouth and are very definitely not up to date even for elves, with Doom et all, and darkness in the North.
He has no concept whatsoever that something might have been fashionable three centuries ago, and instead he's got a wide arsenal of anecdotes about long dead Doriathrim he never has met nor shall meet.
It's not that he's maladjusted to living among the Dúnedain. He just goes above and beyond.

not romantic nor platonic but a secret third thing (so closely linked in the narrative that the author shuffled our character traits many times trying to decide which of us is which)

Ulmo, in his elaborate matchmaking effort to make sure Earendil was born, looked at Tuor and Idril and said "THIS SHIP WILL SAIL AND NEVER SINK" and then personally made sure of that, sending Earrame straight to Valinor and getting Tuor immortality so he and Idril could stay together forever.
Ulmo, despite being single, and besides from being the Lord of Waters, is also the Lord of Ships, in more ways than one.

So I was thinking about Ingwion's name today, as you do. It feels like a pretty bad name, as it just means "son of Ingwe" and doesn't give him much space for his own personality, history, etc outside of his father. I was also thinking about how Ingwe must not have any other sons then, as having one of your sons being named "my son" and another one(s) not being called anything like that is... favoritism? Something like that anyway.
But then I had a better thought - Ingwion isn't a singular elf, he's several elves in a trench coat. Allow me to elaborate.
"Ingwion" is just the name of Ingwe's heir/the crown prince of the Vanyar, and is just used by whichever of Ingwe's kids drew the short straw and had to do politics this time or who decided they needed to do something political. All of Ingwe's kids have actual distinct names, and they just pretend to be one person who doesn't actually exist for the sake of political expediency.
