Simon calling Wilhelm out, saying he's only okay with standing up for a cause if it doesn't directly affect him is SO important, especially with the current political climate. Privileged, rich white people are all for making a statement, until it gets lonely and dangerous, until it stops benefitting them directly.
Vincent "stealing" the idea of protesting from people he considers beneath him and the entire school jumping in the bandwagon because not having a proper graduation is the biggest problem they can think of is such a loud call out to white predominant, first world capitalist countries.
Not willing to be a part of a movement if it doesn't help them, doesn't put them in the spotlight makes privileged people immediately uncomfortable. They have this mentality of why should I fight for something that I don't even suffer from, but that's exactly what most sociopolitical movements are about and they will never get it. The very idea of decentering themselves to help a bigger cause is so foreign to privileged people because their whole life has been about them, the "greater good" is not a concept they worry about.
These issues don't exist to them unless they directly suffer from it and while they will preach up and down about how they understand and want to help, they never will and people like Simon will always be left enraged. The frustration that Simon felt is something that every one of us facing intersectional discrimination is familiar with and I'm glad young royals covered this over multiple episodes.
