So sorry to hear that you're having such a hard time. Bereavement is never an easy thing to deal with, but especially when it's sudden.
There's not much I can say to help other than to offer my inbox if you need someone to chat to and to offer up the kind of fics you've requested.
If you wander to my Ao3 account I suggest the Isolation on Tracy Island series (written during lockdown) and the collection of "A little extra Tracy" of which this particular fic is part of. There's a lot to dip in and out of, and John will likely always be the star of the show.
But for the one fic I recommend, it's "Family Feud"
Tw: hospital, end of life care When I first appeared on here it was to thank you all cause last year was awful - 6 unexpected bereavements spaced through the year, but your stories, art and rambles gave me a positive thing to read, and to eventually join in on. Honestly I wouldn't have kick-started my creativity again without the Thunderfam. Well, I've had some very bad news today (without getting too specific; an elderly family member got injured yesterday and... well we've been told "days". :( ) I'm actually super shy and private, so it's unlike me to share any of this. But if any of you are willing to throw your favourite comfort fics, pics, etc. (John is probably my fav, but I love them all, so I don't mind which ones!) my way, please do. I'm going to need the lighter moments in the next few days. Uh, I hope I've not made anyone else feel down. I'm trying to focus on the positives here; the care and the love and the happy moments and memories in the sad. I'm going to try to keep up the creativity and the stories and maybe even some art - honestly sharing that stuff has been really good for me and I've been enjoying it immensely. I guess I just needed a ramble...

I think it would have been REALLY funny if Buffy at one point had been like NO! no…. I cannot date another Vampire! In crush and Spike makes an “But I’m already evil! What’s the worst that could happen!” argument In his pouty little quiet yell voice that he uses sometimes 😹😹😹
Like I can HEAR him saying it the same way he says “women marry them all the time!” And I’m DYING it’d be so on brand for him to say like yes angel was good…. UNTIL HE WASNT. I on the other hand am DEPENDABLE with my level of evil on a day to day basis no matter how much we’re fucking. Hell my evil might go DOWN the more we do it cause I’ll be too worn out and busy with you! Right now I’ve got too much free time really. Gives me so much more scheming and plotting time…👀

Awww this is gorgeous!
Tumblr media
Earth and Sky drawn by me :)))
I've been absolutely swamped with my own work (SORRY @riallasheng)!! and drew this as a distraction, as a little companion to Places Meant for Leaving chapter 2 (which is coming!!). Featuring my love for biro and colour pencil and sketchiness on cardboard. Scott's hair looks like that because I refuse to believe a cool 14 year old in 2045 would have his hair swept back the way he does XD.
And here is the start of chapter 2 for WIP wednesday to go along with this xxxxxx
Places Meant For Leaving
Today is Scott Tracy’s 14th birthday.
Virgil had begged and begged and cried before Scott rolled his eyes, mumbling a fond, ‘come on then’ to the 9-year-old, who loudly declared that he was almost 10 and that he was absolutely old enough to take the train to Phoenix. Grandma had dropped them to the station in her ancient Suzuki, given Virgil a big wet kiss on the cheek (EWW Grandma!), before squeezing Scott into a hug and whispering ‘please be careful, okay?’
Scott, big and tall and buzzing with newfound responsibility, herded his little brother into the Uber he called all by himself, and together, they made their way to the mechanic where his first car was waiting.
“It’s an Austin!” Virgil exclaims, giddy and indifferent to the fact it wasn’t even his. “An 1800! Scotty, Dad got you a landcrab!”
“Dad bought it off Penny’s dad, and what’s a landcrab?” Scott’s walls are covered in planes. Virgil’s are covered in cars. It’s an interesting point of difference between the two that really wasn’t much of a difference at all.

Tracy Log: 03/08/2066
RESCUE REPORT:
Call received at 13:26, reports of a rambler trapped in an abandoned missile silo some 8 meters below ground.
Call sent by companion (uninjured) stating that the victim had climbed to the apex of the hill- created after the covering of the shelter entrance- in order to film a segment for their YouTube channel.
Upon reaching the top they started filming but the ground they were standing on began to shift, having become unstable due to nearby building work causing heavy flooding in the area.
The platform upon which they were standing -which doubled as a the lid to the silo- crumbled and they fell straight down into the silo.
Thunderbirds 1 and 2 deployed with Scott, Virgil, and Gordon aboard.
Victim knocked unconscious on impact, and didn't regain consciousness until Scott reached the danger zone.
Scott used our jetpack technology to lower himself down in order to assess the victim and secure them for transport.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the fall and the subsequent injuries, although victim regained consciousness briefly, they were in too much pain. Scott issued painkillers to make them more comfortable, but they succumbed to their injuries before Scott or the team on Thunderbird 2 were able to help.
Reports will be sent, along with our video footage, to the local police force for processing and our standard letter of condolence, as well as resources, has been sent to the bereaved.
END REPORT.
John leaned back, allowing the freedom of Zero-G to support his body as he pressed save on his screen and swiped it away.
He could still hear, could still see, the devastation on his brother's face as he reported that their mission had not been successful. Scott had tried to stay businesslike, to report the facts as they appeared, but John knew it was never that easy.
He watched every rescue as standard, ready to help in any way he could, and he had heard the laboured breathing of the victim, their pain filled crying and the wheezing, rattle in their chest.
They had asked Scott for help and he had promised them he would get them out of there. And he had, he'd helped the only way he could, by making them comfortable and holding their hand as their life had slipped away. And then he'd done his job and gotten them out as promised, just not in the way any of them would have wished.
Losses were inevitable, and they were lucky enough that they didn't have to deal with them that often, but that just made it all the harder when it did.
He wanted to be down there to support his brother, knowing he would be beating himself up about it even though there was nothing anyone could have done, but he still had to file the report with the local authorities and alert the bereavement counsellor they kept on retainer in case the victim's family were in need and couldn't provide their own.
Still, he had a secret weapon that he was merciless in deploying when a situation called for it, and this was definitely that situation.
He pulled up his screen again and touched the little symbol of a witch’s hat.
-x-
Scott’s eyes flew open as the first pounding notes of a song blasted through the speaker system of the lounge.
There went his peace and quiet. Couldn't a man brood alone in this house without some idiot feeling the need to disturb him?
“Why am I not surprised?” he bitched when his sister-in-law slid into the room and struck a dramatic pose. Please don't let her start to sing. He loved her but his temples were already throbbing and he didn't think his nerves could take it.
Thankfully -if you could count that- she stuck to lip syncing along as Tina Turner blasted out her most famous number.
“I call you when I need you, my heart's on fire,” Selene mimed, holding her hands over her heart as she rocked back and forth on the spot. “You come to me, come to me wild and wild.” She gestured to him to stand up and join her, but he folded his arms and resolutely refused, he wasn't in the mood for such silliness. A man had just died, did she not understand that?
“When you come to me, give me everything I need,” Selene continued as if he wasn't glaring a hole into her, she just gyrated on the spot, her head bobbing. “Give me a lifetime of promises and a world of dreams, speak a language of love like you know what it means.”
She settled into a power pose stance and prepared for the first big moment of the song.
“Mmm, and it can't be wrong, take my heart and make it strong, baby…” She paused in her bouncing sway to make sure he was paying attention before she belted out the words along with Tina.
“You're simply the best!” She pointed her finger directly in his face. “Better than all the rest.” Powerful head pumping. “Better than anyone.” Arms swaying above her head. “Anyone I've ever met.”
She clutched her hands to her heart as she swayed along to the words, miming along for all she was worth. She knew how to give a rousing performance and he deserved it.
“I'm stuck on your heart
I hang on every word you say.”
“No you don't,” Scott argued, but he was beginning to feel a little amused.
“Tear us apart,” Selene mimed then stuck her tongue out at him. “Baby, I would rather be dead.”
Scott's lips twitched, just a tiny bit, but she saw it and knew that she'd got him. He was hers now.
She moved closer until she was directly in front of him and carried on lip syncing along, pantoming the moves.
“In your heart, I see the star of every night and every day.”
She grabbed him by the hand and dragged him to his feet, ignoring his protests.
“In your eyes, I get lost, I get washed away.”
She kept hold of his hand, but stretched out their arms so that she could spin herself in against his chest in what she thought was the slickest move ever. He automatically grabbed on, holding her in case she fell.
“Just as long as I'm here in your arms, I could be in no better place…”
She wound up to the next line, tipped her head back onto his shoulder, eyes closed as she belted out the words like a woman possessed. “You're simply the best.”
She swayed from side to side, forcing him to move with her or lose his balance. “Better than all the rest. Better than anyone, anyone I've ever met.”
She felt the shaking of his shoulders as he started to laugh, but she couldn't hear much over the music. Not that that mattered, she knew her plan was working.
“Ooh, I'm stuck on your heart, I hang on every word you say.”
She wound her way out of his arms again in true ballroom dancing fashion but kept hold of his hand.
"Don't tear us apart,no, no, no. Baby, I would rather be dead!”
Scott span her again and she latched her arms around his neck, moving together now. This time he joined in, actually singing, which she now joined in with, uncaring as to how bad she sounded.
“Each time you leave me, I start losing control,
You're walking away with my heart and my soul.
I can feel you even when I'm alone, oh baby, don't let go!”
They danced a haphazard path around the coffee table and up the steps to a clear spot of floor just in time for the next part. They bounced around, Scott mimed playing a saxophone as Selene did her best Tina Turner gyrations -if the woman herself could move like that in her 70s Selene had no excuse to let the said down.
“Ooh, you're the best, ooh.”
Arms were waved as they sang. Selene had managed to grab Kayo's discarded hairbrush off a side table and was using it in her best teenage girl sleepover fashion.
“Better than all the rest. Better than anyone, anyone I've ever met.”
Scott took her outstretched hand and wound his fingers through hers, allowing her to swing his arm around as they sang the next lines.
“Ooh, I'm stuck on your heart, I hang on every word you say. Don't tear us apart, no, no, Baby, I would rather be dead!”
She let go of his hand and threw her head back to scream the next line.
“You're the best!”
They broke apart to dance on their own as the music pumped winding up for the finale. Scott was fully in the grove now, his face losing the haggard sadness she'd seen when she'd first entered the room. They were karaoke masters, they knew how to match actions to the words and they did it with style.
"Ooh, you're simply the best. Better than all the rest. Better than anyone, Anyone I've ever met!”
They bounced on the spot, singing at the top of their lungs, heads thrown back as they let the music and the fun of the moment wash away the disappointment and sadness of the day.
“I'm stuck on your heart, baby. I hang on every word you say.” Heads bobbed, fingers clicked, booties shimmied, hips gyrated as they let themselves go. “Don't tear us apart, no, no, no. Baby, I would rather be dead!”
Selene was very out of breath now, and why shouldn't she be, she been carrying this performance after all, but he was worth it. They bounced back together again, and she grabbed his hand, squeezing it tight to make sure he was fully understanding the reason behind her song choice.
“Oh, you're the best. You're better than all the rest
Better than anyone, anyone I've ever met.”
She locked eyes with him as the song wound down and spoke the last words directly to her very best friend in the entire world, and thankfully he was right there with her. “Ooh, you're the best.”
She was there to catch him in a huge hug as the music died away, leaving them panting for breath. The man could run the length of the island but make him dance and he'd be puffing like an old steam train in minutes.
“Beer?” she offered, kissing the top of his head where he'd faceplanted her shoulder.
It took him a moment, but finally he mumbled, “Yeah, that’d be good. Thanks.” That last word meant everything to her and told her that he appreciated her efforts more than he would probably admit.
She nodded and gave him another squeezy hug before she let him go, confident that she'd made her point. He was the best, the best brother, the best friend and the best rescuer out there. And whenever he doubted himself she'd be there to kick his arse until he realised the error of his ways.
-x-
John smiled to himself as he watched the live lounge feed. His wife was certainly unconventional in her approach but she got the job done.
And, until he could get home he knew his brother was in the best hands now. She'd make sure that he remembered that he was the best.

Ahem.... Well... I mean... I don't think there's anything in an official line like that. Not that I've seen anyway, and I'd have bought it. Maybe we should ask @selene-tempest ?
"Hey! What's this?" Alan asked, dragging a box from the back of the cupboard.
"Oh, is that all the merch?" Virgil asked, walking over to look.
"Merch?" Alan asked.
"Yeah," laughed Scott, "When International Rescue was starting out this guy came to visit with a bunch of possible tie-ins, like t-shirts and mugs with our logo on, action figures, die cast metal toys of our 'Birds, I mean who'd buy that kind of stuff!"
"Just a whole bunch of kids toys then?" Alan commented.
"Yep." replied Scott, not looking over from his seat at the desk.
"Does this count as a toy? I mean, it says batteries not included."
"Does what- No! Nonono, that, uh, that is not a kids toy. Um, Virgil, could you, uh, find somewhere safe and out of the way for that and any other similar bits and bobs in that box?"
"Sure thing, Allie, could I juuuuuust have that back? Thanks."
Scott and Virgil caught each others eyes and smirked.

Why you should write healthy marriages:
1. They aren’t done enough.
2. They help other people understand what a healthy relationship looks like.
3. Fights can last for weeks and still be part of a healthy marriage.
4. Stereotypes. Break all the marriage stereotypes.
5. Soft cute couple moments DON’T stop after marriage.
6. Marriage is completely independent of character arcs. Those two individuals with trauma will still be two individuals with trauma but with gold rings.
7. A healthy marriage is one where people understand that their partners have baggage/trauma/flaws, but love them even in rough patches.
8. It isn’t that healthy marriages aren’t compelling, it’s that people don’t know how to write marriages correctly.
9. Marriages being an end goal often perpetuates that women are trophies to be won.
10. Marriages being an end goal often perpetuates that someone’s “freedom” ends there. Bury this trope, please, I beg of you.

Starting a post thread.
Reblog with one of your favourite random TAG moments, not a big, epic one, just something that made you laugh, or think, or just stuck out to you.
Mine is that moment in "Home on the range" when Brains picks up this random bagel off the side and tosses it at the Mechanic to see if he's real. I can just picture what happened before...
Someone (probably Scott) : John! Hurry up, we've got to start.
John: *Scowls in their general direction, then looks down at the bagel in his hand* Why can I NEVER finish my food? *puts the bagel down gently on the side and pats it lovingly * I'll come back for you.
Bagel: *wiggles happily * He loves me, he wants to eat me, I am so honoured, I am wanted! I have a purpose!
Brains an hour later: *grabs the bagel * This old thing will do YEEEEEET!

*throwing out a casual statement on sexuality and representation in our story *
I just want to clear up something, well, not clear it up, just put it out there into the world, because I've seen some posts recently and feel that it should be addressed purely for our storyline. I'm not talking for anyone else but me and @olliepig in this and our storyline/AU but it's something that keeps coming up so I wanted to put our thoughts and motivations out there.
We see a lot of posts pertaining to the sexuality of the boys and since we do write what is essentially a shippy/romance there are relationships portrayed. But here's where we stand on them.
We hope that by the 2060s people are not judged so much on their sexuality. We hope that people will be able to be with whomever they like and that's all that matters. Love is love. Simple as that.
We as writers don't judge people on their sexuality and don't feel like that makes up their entire personality, we don't even feel it's that important, do it's not something we have ever felt the need to put a label on or to point out with glaring neon lights.
In our story Alan is with Brandon, it's never been spelled out or shoved in anyone's faces because we didn't think we needed to or even should. We try to keep our writing as close to real life as possible and if you are in a loving, accepting family and friends circle they will know you and who you like without it needing to be a big deal. They wouldn't make a whole massive thing about someone bringing home a boyfriend, they should just welcome them and accept them as they would if they were bringing home someone of the opposite gender.
No one made a huge deal when John dragged Selene home kicking and screaming (OK so she invited herself but whatever) they were just happy he found someone who accepted him for who he was and loved him that way. So in our heads they would have been exactly the same with Brandon. As we weren't really focusing on other characters' relationships, spelling it out or doing a massive how they got together thing was never something we felt the need to do. They just are. They are there, they are shown hugging, dancing together, hands in each other's pockets and it's cute as heck and all that's needed.
I see John as a bi/pan/demi mix of perfection, but I've never felt the need to shout about it in the story. I have never seen John as someone that would judge who he likes/loves based on the bits they have but rather the brain in their head. In one of my isolation updates he casually dropped it in that his first crush was a guy and he'd be open to a poly relationship if things ever went that way, as would Selene. There was no need for me to push that, it's just a thing that's there.
Why then, I hear you ask, have you not done John with a guy then, if he's bi in your head? Because of bi erasure and invalidation. That's a thing and it's terrible. Bi people are often the most judged and forgotten/ignored sexuality out there. They are judged by both the LGBTQ community, as well as the hetro community. Seen as going through a phase, as greedy, needing to pick a side etc. Their bisexuality is invalidated, especially if they do end up falling for someone of the opposite gender. Bisexual people are calling out to people to stop judging them when they marry someone and saying "you made up your mind then" "see I knew you were straight" "I knew you were gay" "finally stopped being greedy then". And this sucks. Unfortunately in fiction the only way you can really show bisexuality in a way that's casual and not spelling it out is to have the character with both genders and that's apparently wrong too.
I never wanted to do that to my boy. He is valid, he is awesome, he just happened to fall for a woman, as happens a lot in real life. I never felt the need to push that because it shouldn't matter. I wanted that representation for him so I just let him be who he is. I literally wrote it in so many of the early chapters that he never felt comfortable being physical with someone unless he felt drawn to them and had an emotional or mental connection with them first. Yes he feels attraction but doesn't act on it until he feels connected and comfortable with that person.
I know a lot of people see John as ace, but that's not how I see him. Honestly I see Virgil more than way, but again, not gonna make a big thing of it. My best friend is ace and all she wants is for people to stop judging her on it and bringing it up like it's any of their business. Now she's not just not met the right person yet, no she won't be better if she prays it away so God brings her a decent man to love. She's ace, she's her, that's all there is to it. Her sexuality is not the only thing she is and she is judged by it so much. So I don't do that. I don't make sexuality a focus on anything in my stories.
Gordon I also see as bi/pan, because I feel he's exactly the same as John in the fact that he'll be chill with anything and anyone and doesn't feel the need for labels either.
And that's the thing, we honestly don't feel that any of the boys (especially with it being the future) would feel the need for labels to the extent we have now, so we don't include them. We have relationships being shown organically, relaxed and chilled as they should be, evolving in the background into something beautiful and awesome.
Our goal with our stories has always been healthy relationships. We wanted to show acceptance, people being loved for who they are and accepted for that. No massive dramas, no misunderstandings, no nastiness. As it should be.
Now I understand the desire to be represented, that's why Sel is a witch too, because mine is one of the most judged religions in the world. It's misunderstood, it's seen as bad, evil, devilish, whatever else you want to call us, and I wanted to show how witches are in real life, no different to anyone else.
I've been a witch for over 20 years now and back in my early days we didn't have the net as it is now. People had no real concept of paganism as they do now and I was judged, bullied and attacked a lot, so it just made me more vocal, something I've carried over to now. Being a witch is a big part of who I am, but it's not all I am. It does not make up my entire personality and it's not the only thing I have in my life.
I understand being vocal about who you are, but I don't feel it needs to be all you are. That's how I treat sexuality too, it's a part of you not all of you and it's not the only part of your personality. I will never judge you on who you do or do not want to boink, I will judge you on how you treat me, how you act and the things you do. And I'd like to think our boys would be exactly the same. So that's how we write them.
If one of the other characters in our stories gets with someone we won't announce it with huge fanfare, we will just have them happily doing their thing because that's how it should be. All sexualities are welcomed and inclusive in our world/storyline, we just don't judge on it or feel the need to specify it. Accept, love, enjoy.
So that's our take on it, accept it or don't, read our stuff or don't, whatever, it's all good.

got told at lunch "you feel like Tumblr Incarnate" and i had to tell them i've been here for 13 years and counting. i was here three years before dashcon happened. i saw the mishapocalypse. i survived the gigapause. i've been here longer than the shoelaces post. i've been here since it was hipsters versus fandom and i played both sides extensively by overdoing the sepia filters on everything and making my own flashing galaxy gif edits for my fandom posts. i'm every tumblr. it's all in me
