WASHOI! ! ! ! [Menphina Madness Blitzball Tournament]
The Kugane Koban Crushers are a fierce, diverse mix of both Hingan, Doman, foreign adventurers, and beastmen who fight for gold as much as they fight for victory. They are the melting pot of blitzball teams, truly embodying the spirit of Kugane. Their team colors are gold and rainbow. Their mascot is the legendary samurai, Yojimbo. The Crushers proximity to the Ruby Sea gives them lots of training opportunities. At the beginning of every season, they are invited down to Tamamizu to receive the blessing of the Kojin, a magic rite which allows them to breath underwater. It is rumored that magical animals follow the Crushers to their games and bless them with supernatural power. The Crushers were neck-and-neck this year for the spot of Eastern regional champion. In their final game, they beat the Doman Hell Frogs, 3-2! But in their fury, the Hell Frogs - who are rumored to have super natural members - cast some sort of curse upon their mascot: an authentic piece of Yojimbou armor carried to every Crusher championship game. Could this mean ill tidings for Kugane? Or are the streets before them paved in gold?
Sign ups and information begin on Monday, March 1st. If you would like to play for the Crushers, please join our discord: https://discord.gg/UBtkrttaaQ and keep an eye here for more team reveals and game information!

What is Soriko?
Tumblr media
Those of you who watched "Spirited Away" may recognize this attire as one of the deity characters who visited the bath house. This is an ancient Japanese attire worn during a Gagaku [雅楽] performance at the beginning of Komaichikotsu [高麗壱越] scene titled Soriko [蘇利古]. ①
Performed by 4 dancers (5 dancers in Shitennō Temple [四天王寺] in Tennōji Ward [天王寺区], Ōsaka) while wearing the iconic mask called Zōmen [雑面] while wielding a short, thin staff called Zuwae [白楚], Soriko is believed to be from the Kofun Period during the reign of Emperor Ōjin [応神天皇] brought to Japan by a government personnel from the country of Kudara [百済] (Baekje/백제) in ancient Korea by the name of Susukori [須々許理]. ①
Based on how Soriko was referred to as Kamadomatsuri-no-mai [竈祭舞] ① and Susukori recorded being a liquor brewing specialist according to "Kojiki", Soriko may have been performed as a purification ritual for ovens (Kamado [竈] in Japanese) used when concocting liquor.

[Balmung] Genbu Matsuri - The Festival of Genbu Saturday, March 13th 8:00PM EST - Sui-no-Sato, the Ruby Sea
As the silent snow falls, the Black Tortiose and Warden of North awakens from his slumber…
The Festival of Genbu venerates the Lord which guards the northern shores of the Ruby Sea. Legend says this festival is a marriage between two separate ceremonies: the hanashizume no matsuri brought to the Ruby Sea by the clans that settled in Sui-no-Sato and the Genbu matsuri long celebrated by the Kojin of the Blue.
It is believed that in winter, Lord Genbu sleeps in the mountains, his shell covered by layers of snow. Demons slumber in the winter as well, their evil spirits retreating to the unbudded blooms of the sakura and plum trees many flock to see during Hanami. When the flower falls, the demons spread everywhere, attacking the blossom viewers with fatigue and illness. Thus, have the people of Sui-no-Sato learned to drive the spirit of evil from the unbloomed buds, by awakening the spirit of Genbu and asking him to cleanse the world with the sacred snow that has layered upon his shell.
Though they now live far from the cherry trees, the people of Sui-no-Sato still perform the hanashizume, weilding red umbrellas, and waking Genbu with their divine song. It is a matsuri of health and wellness, and a little rowdiness, as the Kojin of the Blue have added their own ‘healthy’ games to the festival: a hardy ceremony of one of their favorite sports: sumo!
All are invited to come to Sui-no-Sato on March 13th, be cleansed with sacred snow, have their health looked over by Eastern doctors, observe the hanashizume, and cheer our six honorable sumo wrestlers on! We are looking for vendors, health care workers, demons and miko, lecturers, and SUMO WRESTLERS! Sign up here: https://discord.gg/5JcHgMNgRt Event Doc coming soon!

A whole shopping trip! At least it was his money they were blowing. Mostly. “My name is Ienaka-no-Nobuyuki,” he replied. “But just Ienaka is fine.”
Tumblr media
Nobuyuki canted his head in consideration. “I don’t usually do this, but. . . I don’t mind showing an ijin around. I can take you to the Umineko Teahouse and we can get dango after we’re done souvenir shopping. Come, let me pack up and I’ll lead the way.”
Soon enough, they found themselves outside and in the Kogane Dori. “Shops for ijin and foreign goods are at the end of the market, to the east,” he explained. “Kimono and foodstuffs are to the west. Where would you like to start?”
“The-The finest!?!” Could Shay afford that? She guessed she would see. “Then…let’s start with getting me a kimono and then maybe I can try out some native food here and um, get some souvenirs for friends!”
Tumblr media
This was beginning to feel like a fun outing and the Miqo’te found herself beaming, her tail waving playfully. “Just lead the way and I’ll follow mister… I don’t think I got your name. Nor gave you mine.” She blushed sheepishly. “I’m-I’m Shay. Shay Pierina.”

Nobuyuki couldn’t help but smile at seeing how flustered the Miqo’te became. He was used to such as a performer, even if he didn’t have the common chance to speak one-on-one with fans. That is, outside of teahouses where the audience members got terribly drunk and handsy.
Tumblr media
“Perfect!” Shay was speaking his metaphorical language now! “It’s very economic these days to buy vintage kimono. Don’t worry, we won’t get you anything tacky or outdated. We’ll get only the finest in modern trends. We’ll get you looking like a native in no time!”
Shay’s ears bent down some. Thinking about it, she felt like she shouldn’t get anyone in Kugane involved. They weren’t a part of this and she certainly didn’t want to drag them into it.
Tumblr media
“That’s true. I’m sorry for spilling about a rather sensitive manner. There are others loyal to him already looking for him so I’m just sort of gathering information. But-” she paused and grinned, “I still want to see the wonders of Kugane, being new here and all. If you have time, care to give me a tour?”

Nobuyuki raised a hand. “All is forgiven. I expect as much from adventurers. Always the chivalrous type, you questing folk. It’s kind of admirable.” He smiled gently.
Tumblr media
“I wouldn’t mind giving you a tour. The Mujiko-za sits just on the edge of the Kogane Dori. Have you had a chance to browse the markets yourself yet?”
