So spoilers for Village! But honestly I have less, a favorite scene and more a favorite whump character? One of the main antagonists is a whumpee that wants revenge on his whumper. Whumper basically took him (among others) and experimented on him. Gave him powers. And took away any freedom. He's also the only one who offers to help the protagonist to kill the whumper. But unfortunately is denied his revenge/freedom by said protagonist by being murdered... So I just think there's so much! And I've only seen a few people touch on it and just how whumpy it is - thebluejayswhump

Ooooooo I absolutely love that. Can't believe he gets murdered!! He deserves some revenge!

I haven't seen much of Resident Evil 7 (too many squicks) but! Wholeheartedly agree! So much potential! I'm still new to the fandom and have been hyperfixating on Village since it first came out. And I think there's a lot of untapped whump potential there too! But I haven't seen anyone else in the whump community interested. - thebluejayswhump

I’ll be completely honest I’m no expert on it, though I’ve heard very good things! Video games just aren’t my area of expertise I’m afraid…

I’m personally not too concerned with medical minutia when I write, I try to be as accurate as I can when I research, but I try to not let it bog down my writing, so I’m sorry I don’t have better advice!

Whump Prompt: 91

- “Does it hurt? Have you had enough?” Whumper asked playfully, watching as whumpee trembled in pain and whimpered. 

“Yes!” They sobbed, head bobbing slightly. 

“You know what you have to do to make it stop.” Whumper said simply and watched as they began trembling harder in an attempt to suppress sobs. “I guess I’ll keep – “ 

“No!” They stopped as whumpee lifted a hand in protest and looked up. “N-no, I’m coming.” Whumper smirked as they struggled to their feet and looked at whumper who spread their arms out. 

Whumpee’s steps were hesitant and shaky, their legs threatening to give way under them each step they took. They finally collapsed in whumper’s arms and they listened as whumper chuckled cruelly. 

“Good job,” They said and reached down to tilt up whumpee’s head and plant a gently kiss on their lips. “That’s all I wanted.” They whisper.

Can we just talk about caretakers that are really big and scary trying to soothe the whumpee? Stuff like that gives me whumperflies!

oh ABSOLUTELY!!!

Caretakers that seem cold and unfeeling to everyone else but are super soft-spoken and sweet to a nervous whumpee?

A whumpee who is absolutely terrified of this new and scary caretaker, so the caretaker tries as hard as possible to seem small and nonthreatening?

Caretakers who are gruff and tough and have been through a lot, but because of that, they are able to get through to the whumpee because they know what they’ve gone through?

Caretakers who are so gentle with the whumpee, but go absolutely ballistic and beat up the whumper (maybe the whumpee sees this and is scared after?? but then knows the caretaker just wants to help)

A caretaker who normally isn’t good with talking about feelings or being comforting, but trying so hard when they help a whumpee

A monster!caretaker being so worried about scaring the whumpee, but the whumpee feels safe with them.

Hey E.W.! Great to have you! I get feeling embarrassed, no worries. I hope this community can be welcoming to you, though!

So, a trope is a literary device that is not exclusive to the whump community. It essentially is a plot device, character, or situation, that is common in a certain genre. For example, a trope in romance movies would be a chase scene through an airport, or apologizing in the rain.

There are certain “tropes” in the whump community, off the top of my head I can think of “character who hides their injuries, then collapses” or “whumpee wakes up in a hospital bed and caretaker is sleeping in a chair next to the bed”, but there are far more than I could name. It’s just a common thing found in many different stories. A lot of times people will really like certain tropes, and seek them out! Tropes can also be shorter, or more vague, like “evil doctor” or “weakest teammate gets kidnapped”.

The categorization of “whumper” and “whumpee” is kind of a trope in of itself, if you think about it! It’s a common thing used in stories of the whump genre, but not ALL whump stories have them; For example, whump can come from illness or a natural disaster, not only a “whumper”

Tropes aren’t bad, I personally really enjoy writing and seeking out the ones I really like!

Whumpee: held captive for a few days without food. Now: he is manhandled into a fancy dining room. The whumper has guests enjoying a feast, amused by the whumpee being forced to a seat. The whumpee’s hands get chained to the table. He still tries to be strong and hide his hunger. He is offered food, he gives in and reaches for it… only to realise the chains are too short and he can’t reach. It was all to taunt him. The guests laugh, no one helps the starved whumpee eat. Hunger and humiliation.

A group of whumpees are shown a whump trope/torture method. They have to vote on who gets whumped that way. The rules are: 1 - Everyone must "win" at least once. 2 - You can't vote for yourself. 3 - You can't refuse to vote. Failure to follow rules 2 and 3 will result in one whumpee being killed. Bonus points if the whumpees are friends, family, or a team.

oooooo, that’s so stressful! the whumpees trying to tell each other “just vote for me, i can take this one!” and trying to coordinate so each person gets an equal chance of “winning”... but what if they are differing levels of severity, so some whumpees get frustrated that they happen to land on the really bad tropes? or the whumper separates the whumpees so they can’t coordinate, the whumpees being forced to guess who would vote for them...

would definitely seed a LOT of resentment... enough that if a whumpee has a chance to escape, they won’t help another?

Whumper plays would you rather with the whumpee, but with whump tropes/torture methods. This could go a couple different ways: A - Whumpee chooses what they'd prefer, so whumper does the opposite. B - Whumpee chooses what they wouldn't prefer, so whumper, having anticipated that, does exactly that. For example, whipped or electrocuted. Let's say whumpee would rather be whipped. A, he picks whipped, and gets electrocuted, or B, he picks electrocuted and gets electrocuted.

YES my gosh, the mind games! Whumpee trying to game the system, but the whumper always one step ahead... the whumper getting frustrated and just doing both to the whumpee... amazing.
