RH’s letter to Kurt Daluege, written at the Savoy Hotel at Fasanenstrasse 9 in Berlin. March 5, 1933.
“Honoured Herr Gruppenführer! Since Thursday I have been trying without success to penetrate the “protective screen”. I have telephoned no less than 6 times. Since I have to travel back today, I beg you to recognise this as a token of my visit and hope that the opportunity for a personal visit will present itself in about 10 days. I remain your most humble and obedient servant, R. Heydrich.”

He was “dishonourably discharged” from the Navy on April 30, 1931.
Therefore, in May, in hopes of a new career, RH contacted several people. Among them was the son of his godparents, Karl Freiherr von Eberstein, at that time an SA-Oberführer.
On June 1, RH joined the NSDAP. Through Eberstein, his job application letter initially reached SA-Führer Röhm. Not knowing what to do with RH, he passed it, together with Eberstein’s recommendation, to SS-Reichsführer HH, who was in search of a Nachrichtenmann (intellegence man).
This chain of events led to a meeting between RH and HH on June 14 or 16, which determined the creation of the Ic-Dienst (renamed SD on July 29, 1932).
Joseph Goebbels' final propaganda rally was held inside the townhall of Görlitz, city in eastern Germany near the Polish border. This is the last known footage of the Minister alive.
