It's the holiday season! How's Wilbur and Zombie Philza celebrating?

He found one of those really tacky Christmas hats, the ones that are kinda plasticy and slightly uncomfortable, and stuck it on Phil's head. Now he's singing songs really quietly so that he doesn't attract zombies. Phil is... Groaning. That's like singing I guess

Actually! This ties in to how neopolitan trio get overwhelmed by the zombies, is Kristin had been with Phil in a different room having her first breakdown since seeing him again. Specifically it's the sight of the ring still on him that does it for her. Phil also gives her a hug because he just. He just does that

And somewhere else, while foraging for supplies, Wilbur techno and Tommy accidentally set off a zombie horde and lose track of tommy in the process, leasing to Wilbur running into the zombie horde after him 👍 she doesn't find out about it until techno bursts into the room, telling her words she'll hear over and over in her nightmares

"Wilbur got bit."

Seeing as she's the only adult of the group (Phil being an exception) she has to be the strong one. She can't break, no matter how terrified she feels. Because if she can't pull herself together, then she'd be failing all these kids under her care. Even when looking for her husband and son. Even when meeting the walking corpse of her husband face to face. Even when seeing her son sleep so silently, stiff in the throes of a nightmare, tears streaming down his face. Even when she waits outside a locked shed, waiting for the moon to set and wondering if her son will turn just like his father, wondering if she might have to shoot them both. She can't break. Not yet.

I can't help but think that after Wilbur realizes he's immune he's going to have the WORST breakdown. Because Phil got bit protecting wilbur, so in Will's mind his Dad's death is retroactively pointless :(

HELLO HI AGAIN I have another question! So we know that Wilbur is immune and also went into an unconscious/nightmare state when he got bit. How long did it take until Kristin and Tech realized Wil wasn’t turning and how did they find out? Were they still wary of him even after the fact?

Well honestly throughout the night he was pretty much silent, but even when morning came, there wasn't a sound or a peep or anything. Until a quiet knock that came some time noon, and an even quieter voice.

"Mom?"

Does Wilbur ever go to Mumza for comfort? Or is he more stuck in the mindset that he needs to be independent

It's complicated

Because he's so incredibly touch starved, having spent months without human contact. He can't stand being away from her for more than a few minutes without getting antsy. But the thought of that touch scares him in a way, because he's gone so long without it. It's this mix of paranoia and longing, where he wants the comfort, needs it, but the thought of it paralyzes him. He's most comfortable hanging around Phil, just because that's become the norm in the past few months. He missed his mom, missed her so fucking much, but a hug that he hadn't initiated first might send him into a full panic attack. He kind of deals with this by tailing her, kind of just following her places without actively touching her, and she sometimes ties a piece of rope or cloth around her wrist that he can hold on to. The only time he really fully hugs her is when he's half conscious from nightmares, and embraces her first. Otherwise, Kristin knows not to touch after the first time she tried and he almost started hyperventilating

What was Phil's inner thoughts about knowing how he would turn into a zombie? Guilt? Fear? Anger?

I think it would be primarily fear. He's turning into a monster, after all, one they spent months running from. One his son will be scared of. Guilt, remorse, frustration, that it was unfair, that neither of them deserved this. Sadness that he'll never see Kristin again.

But I think, even so, he'd do it again. Every single time, he'd do anything to keep his boy safe

My dad and I once had a disagreement over him using the adage "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

I said, "That's just not true. Sometimes what doesn't kill you leaves you brittle and injured or traumatized."

He stopped and thought about that for a while. He came back later, and said, "It's like wood glue."

He pointed to my bookshelf, which he helped me salvage a while ago. He said, "Do you remember how I explained that, once we used the wood glue on them, the shelves would actually be stronger than they were before they broke?"

I did.

"But before we used the wood glue, those shelves were broken. They couldn't hold up shit. If you had put books on them, they would have collapsed. And that wood glue had to set awhile. If we put anything on them too early, they would have collapsed just the same as if we'd never fixed them at all. You've got to give these things time to set."

It sounded like a pretty good metaphor to me, but one thing I did pick up on was that whatever broke those shelves, that's not the thing that made them stronger. That just broke them. It was being fixed that made them stronger. It was the glue.

So my dad and I agreed, what doesn't kill you doesn't actually make you stronger, but healing does. And if you feel like healing hasn't made you stronger than you were before, you're probably not done healing. You've got to give these things time to set.

Philza Wednesday "stream"

Phil gets 1000 more gapples eaten, therefore reducing his gold to 0 once again. He's crying right now, L to him I guess!

Phil can't figure out why his spawn chunks are laggy. Not like there's a certain IRON FARM that could be the cause of this YEP
