Let’s talk about what’s happening in Australia, which is suffering its worst bushfire season in recorded history.
Tumblr media
This almost unimaginable catastrophe has killed half a billion animals with more than 14.5 million acres burned and released over 250 million tonnes of CO2 so far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More than 5 million hectares have been burnt, and this number continues to climb – that’s the equivalent of one fifth of the entire UK // equivalent to twice size of Belgium.
Tumblr media
Half a billion mammals, birds and reptiles have been affected, including an estimated 30% of the entire koala population in this area.
Lives and homes have been lost. Our thoughts are with the tens of thousands of people who are affected by these fires.

What can I say, Rhinos have had it pretty bad for the past three years. this year looks pretty bad too, we only in march and already there have been 135 killed. Really pisses me off i want to go to Africa and hunt down the poachers, I’ll be patient. And for those who need a piece of horn which is the equivalent of nails and hair, well I have to middle fingers with nails, they can come and get it.
This is Part one, will try to put out the other ones as soon as i can draw the rest of the rhinos, and go through all the data to create more graphics….
I wish I could say enjoy, there’s nothing to enjoy here.

WE ARE THE GENERATION OF CHANGE.
Our Earth, and everything, everyone, and all resources within it, are finite and will NOT be here forever. Please do not take it for granted like every generation before us did, leaving us with a dying earth and species that soon will only be known in memory.
WE ARE THE GENERATION OF CHANGE.
Educate yourselves and see what you can do to help save our slowly dying Earth. You may believe that there isn’t anything that you can do right now, it’s out of your control, or that your involvement would be too small to even make a difference.
THIS IS NOT TRUE. NO INVOLVEMENT IS TOO SMALL AND ANYONE, ANYWHERE CAN MAKE A CHANGE.
YOU CAN GET INVOLVED WITH NATURE & WILDLIFE PRESERVATION/CONSERVATION TODAY!

Meet Elizabeth Anne, a very special black footed ferret. Black footed ferrets are critically endangered; all currently living black footed ferrets are descended from the last seven animals that were taken into a captive breeding program to save the species.
Well, all but one. Elizabeth Anne is a clone of a ferret named Willa whose genetic material was cryogenically preserved in 1988. She is the only living black footed ferret to not be descended from the original seven founder animals, and that makes her a beam of hope for the genetic diversity of the species.
Last year, the same company responsible for Elizabeth Anne’s birth cloned a critically endangered Przewalski’s horse, which you can read more about here.

EDUCATION AT ITS FINEST.  WE MUST BE EDUCATED ON THE TOPICS WE CARE ABOUT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. WE ARE THE GENERATION OF CHANGE.
youtube
Description from You Tube:
The Shellfish Growers Climate Coalition has grown from just seven shellfish growers in partnership with The Nature Conservancy in 2017 to more than 220 shellfish industry representatives across 24 U.S. states and Canada today. We’re engaging policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels around climate action by sharing our own personal stories about the impacts climate change has brought to our lives and livelihoods. This Earth Day, we’re lifting our voices to help our customers, colleagues, and Members of Congress understand just what’s at stake if we don’t act now: the sustainability of our businesses, the long-term viability of the shellfish industry, and the future of our planet.

EDUCATION ABOUT SOCIAL STRUGGLES TO CONSIDER WITHIN ENVIRONMENTAL COMSERVATION
The devastation pictured above is the result of Japanese commercial Whaling ships in 2018. Japan’s December 26th, 2018 announcement that it is withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission (IWC) and will start commercial whaling in its own waters once again.
Whaling is illegal After a global moratorium on commercial whaling came into force in 1985. It is considered inhumane (and if you have ever seen a commercial whaling ship you will have no question why), however, if the small community were to stop whaling due to this law, they would likely starve or struggle to survive.
We also come to questions such as these: Whaling is considered illegal and inhumane globally, with the exception of certain indigenous tribes who consider whaling part of their culture or rituals. Now picture a small village located on a coast with infertile soil, little land based wildlife, and whose main source of food for the entire community comes from the body of water they are located by. Within this body of water, the main marine life species is a type of whale. This is the food they rely on to survive.
So what is the answer to this predicament?
Do you enforce this law and ban this entire community from being able to feed themselves, most likely leading them towards even graver poverty, starvation, and possibly death?
Do you make an exception for this community and continue allowing them to hunt whales; setting a precedent that now other people and communities may use to justify their own whale hunting (even though they may have separate sources of sustenance available to them)?
Do you provide the community with outside help and food in order to keep them from having to hunt whales to survive, essentially causing the village to become 100% reliant on outside/government help forever?
There is no simple answer to predicaments such as this one, and these types of situations are far from rare. Life is not so black and white to the point where we can confidently state that whaling should be illegal and punishable by law, no matter what the situation is, who is the perpetrator, and why they are conducting this act.
However, I think most animal activists including myself, can agree that commercial whaling is an inhumane and cruel practice, which is rightfully illegal.
Whale hunting was pushed to be delegalized by animal activists who stopped at nothing to end this disgusting practice- showing nature and wildlife activists and enthusiasts everywhere that we CAN and WILL make a change.

Here is an educational video presentation I created abut the Endangered Species Act, A landmark act passed to aid in the protection of endangered species and the habitats/ecosystems that they rely on to survive.
Please take just 10 minutes out of your day and educate yourself about the ESA, and all the environmental laws and policies that followed in it’s footsteps.
This act has helped countless land mammals, marine life, and all types of organisms go from the brink of extinction, to becoming thriving species. Of course, not all of endangered species were able to be saved, and many continue to struggle regarding the continuation of their species survival.
Unfortunately, many countries do not have many environmental or wildlife preservation laws; some do not have any at all! In certain countries, they may have laws in place to help protect their nature and wildlife, but do not have the ability to enforce such laws.
WE ARE THE GENERAL OF CHANGE.  EDUCATE YOURSELF AND GET INVOLVED TODAY!

Some of you may not know, but the Pantanal is burning. Pantanal is the world’s biggest tropical wetlands and most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. It is the home of the biggest sanctuary for the Onça Pintada/Jaguar (Panthera onca). This area is the most damaged by fire in 2020, losing 15% of the biome to the flames.

Our “lungs“ are on fire.
Signal Boost: The Amazon has been on fire at an abnormal rate for over two weeks.
Tumblr media
It’s important to note that fires are not uncommon this time of year in the Amazon. The crisis is the rate, number and reason of the increase of fires.
The survival of the Amazon is crucial. It is the largest rainforest in the world and is a vital carbon store that slows the rate of global warming. It produces about 20% of the worlds oxygen. It is also home to about 3 million specials of plants and animals; a habitat for possibly 1/10 of all species of plants and animals. Additionally it is home to one million indigenous people.
“Wildfires often occur in the dry season in Brazil but they are also deliberately started in efforts to illegally deforest land for cattle ranching.” “Inpe said it had detected more than 74,000 fires between January and August - the highest number since records began in 2013. It said it had observed more than 9,500 forest fires since Thursday, mostly in the Amazon region. Inpe noted that the number of fires was not in line with those normally reported during the dry season.”
Since Brazil’s far-right President Jair Bolsonaro took office in January, deforest has drastically increased.
“The Brazilian state of Amazonas has declared a state of emergency over a rising number of fires in the region.” “The smoke has reached all the way to Sao Paolo, more than 1,700 miles away. Images from the city show the sky pitch black in the middle of the afternoon, the sky and sun blanketed by smoke and ash. The European Union’s satellite program, Copernicus, released a map showing smoke from the fires spreading all along Brazil to the east Atlantic coast. The smoke has covered nearly half the entire country, and is even spilling over into neighboring Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay.”
The state of the rainforest was already in trouble. Prior to the fires (July 2), “An area of Amazon rainforest roughly the size of a football pitch is now being cleared every single minute, according to satellite data. The rate of losses has accelerated as Brazil’s new right-wing president favours development over conservation.”
“Every time you look at a satellite image of the forest, you see another little piece missing.”
While you’re here, it’s also important to note that while some of the images circulating Tumblr and other web platforms are from the current state, many are not. Some are not even of the Amazon. Always check your sources.

A stunning example of one of the many breath-taking areas on Earth that we, as a generation, through education and action, need to preserve.
Yet we not only have been letting it burn, but farmers have even been setting the amazon rainforest on fire PURPOSEFULLY.
Brazil does have many Environmental Conservation Laws, such as it’s “Forest Code”, first passed in 1965. However, enforcing, or even having a government who actually cares about these laws being followed in the first place, can be difficult. The intentional burning of the Amazon Rainforest, not quite the oldest, but the largest and most biodiverse tropical rainforest in the world, is a great example of this.
Here is some information about the Amazon Rainforest:
Age: over 55 million years
Location: Brazil (60%), Peru (13%), and Colombia (10%); minor amounts in Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana
Area: 2.1 million sq miles
Forest Type: Moist Broadleaf Tropical Rainforest
Largest and most biodiverse tropical rainforest in the world.
Represents over half of the Earth’s remaining rainforests.
A large number of indigenous people still live in the Amazon Rainforest.
Over 40,000 plant species, 427 mammals, 378 reptiles, 1300 birds, 400 amphibians, & around 3,000 freshwater fishes call the Amazon Rainforest home. Though there is estimated to be many more species left undiscovered!
We need to stand up and tackle these Environmental Issues, and sometimes that requires political pressure, lobbying, and other tactics not located in the actual fieldwork.
we all have our role to play in the preservation and conservation of our planet and every single organism, ecosystem, and biome within it. Not only for ourselves and for our home (planet), but for the generations that will follow us. what legacy do you wish to leave your children?
