We The North rose from member discussions as our community built a unique location from the ground up. WTN is a site based in the fictional city of Chevalier, Ontario with plotting and posting opportunities in Toronto and Ottawa. We are a six year old collaborative site made by writers, for writers. If you are tired of communication focused sites and are looking to write again, this is the place for you.  Our base of active and friendly members are eager to get started plotting with you! Day 2: WTN WEEK - PAIN This is just a piece of what WTN is. Pain is evident, we live to hurt our characters and we do it so well. This is honestly just a few of the characters and the ships that hurt me. Some are my own, some are others. And the people that write them do so with such raw, genuine reactions and characterisation that you might think these characters to be real. There are so many more that I could list but I am not allowing myself to put too many (hence why these pictures are bigger this time around). I am so interested in these characters and the pains of their lives that I will actually read threads that have my particular triggers because i have to know what happens. That is how much I want to know or need to know what is next for these characters and these ships. I have to give a special call out to @feelsliketheresoceans because she is the other half of two of these ships and I can’t imagine my rping experience without her. But also my life in general now. She causes me such pain through her writing, I can feel what the character in question is going through. I absolutely love pain that she causes me though.

WTNWEEK 2021 - PAIN

Pain is…

Reading the stories told.

The fights. The heartbreaks. Lost of loved ones. The reunions. Anything that makes you grip on your chest and go ‘MAH HEART!’

The Writers here at WTN  are undoubtedly the most talented people I’ve known. They are not afraid to push their characters to go through life altering challenges. 

One might yell, “Please no more pain!” but it is this that gives the characters the chance to grow and develop. So kudos to the Writers!

You are truly the best <3

#wtnweek Prompt 2- Pain

There could only be one option for me here. Is it cheating to highlight a UPC? I don't care I'm doing it anyway.

When I brought Sam to WTN and made the decision to play out the arc of her losing her twin to cancer, I did so with the expectation that I would npc him myself. What I didn't expect was for @chronicalsofash to step up to continually UPC Lucas through the last year, but I'm so glad they did. What they've brought to Lucas has been so important. They've given him depth and humanity. He's so much more than the "saintly, dying swan" trope that we see so often in the media. He's real, he's expressed anger, and fear, and somehow his presence makes what is being lost so much starker. And Ash is so talented at writing things that just absolutely punch you in the gut with emotion, that I've cried reading their posts.

We still have the final painful part to go (and I'm absolutely not emotionally ready for that lmao), but Ash, thank you for giving me the gift of Lucas. Thank you for being so invested in this story with me. Thank you for all the pain, satan.

⭐ when i took emma's ad for hudson's love interest over two years ago, i (who didn't know emma and the absolute devil she is) feared jadson would be a boring ship. fluffy, but boring, because they're two good people who have been friends forever, and it would be very easy to make them just that. HAH. i feel like all we've done since the beginning is give them pain.

⭐ this last year, we got to see jasmine dealing with her trauma in the least healthy of ways and struggling to confide in hudson because her trust in him had never been the same since the legendary bridge bombing. she spent this last year trying to convince herself that she's the main character in her own life after feeling powerless not one, but multiple times - some of those, because of hudson (even if his intentions were pristine).

⭐ on the other hand, we saw hudson losing grip of who he is - or how he was seen by others: the golden boy who can do no wrong, to the point where being called perfect sounded like an insult. he fucked up. she fucked up. mutually, we got to see both of them having to retcon everything they knew about the other so that they could start seeing each other as grown, flawed humans instead of cute children who used to play together, and it hurt.

WTNWEEK 2021 - HAPPINESS

Happiness is…

The community.

The WTN Community.

Coming in whether it is on the server or on the site itself, everything about this community gives me all sorts of happiness.

Meeting the people (old and new) Talking. Laughing. Enjoying the memes together. Being happy and sad of plots/ships/pretty much anything being shared or said in this community.

I just wanna say that I love being a part of this community. And I’m never gonna stop loving everyone at WTN.

wtn week day two: pain with @emcatrps

pain was surprisingly easy for me to choose, despite the fact tha here have been a lot of things that have caused me pain and heartache on this site. but when i think about the most painful plot that i've written this year, it has to be isaac rousseau and sam pilkington. isaac and sam are best friends, but they've both been through a lot. and when sam disappeared for a long weekend, it brought back a lot of memories for isaac of his dad's disappearance and death. the two of them were incredibly traumatized beans when they confronted one another, and because of it, they crashed.

writing this with cat? it fucking killed me. the fact that they still aren't back to 100%? fucking killed me. and the pain of a friendship in peril? to me that's so much worse than the pain of almost any romantic relationship in peril.

PAIN ⚠️ Abel Sanders

Okay look. The misunderstood bad boy is my kryptonite, and Aria executes this flawlessly in Abel. It's all there. The troubled childhood. The simmering rage. The territorial protectiveness. He's really only a bad guy if you're standing on the other side though. To someone like Sienna, Abel looks like a best friend, a hero, a protector, a teddy bear. To someone like Piper, Abel looks like an enemy, a threat, a nuisance, a liability. This is where the pain comes in. Abel is a bad boy who could be a good man, and it pains me to watch him struggle and hurt. It pains me that he and Piper have this weird undefinable chemistry (??), and in another time and place they could've been perfect for each other. The thread with this shattered boy crying on her shoulder at his own birthday party broke my heart. It literally hurts how much I love Abel and how much I'm supposed to not love Abel because he's the 'bad guy.' Save me.

While in writing it's easy to play out angst but not real pain that can linger. The effects can be felt for months, even years later for characters as well as players. The emotions pour into every word. My favorite thing is to watch the reactions play out in chatting with people or notes in a post. Beyond even events, you can see how people play with the character's emotions in layers. The dimension is what keeps me hooked when reading a thread. The fact I can feel my heart break and at times even cry is just a bonus. I can't even list all the times I've done that.

The way it goes beyond ships is also just....no words. I've seen family pain and friendship fall apart. Some can't even be fixed. To be writing them is a different level I can't even touch. There is a bit pleasure in seeing people's reactions to something painful that was written.

No one does pain like We the North.

WTNWEEK 2021 [prompt two] ↳ pain → brix + jadson

I’m smiling through the pain right now. We got the literal pain of pain (Pariza and Lincoln) where my stomach literally revolted against me tagging their last thread and it took a week to get the courage to tag. Playing Linc with some of my personal painful experiences adds to the trauma and therapy of writing him. We’ve got the Armstrongs, who’ve gone through a year of biological warfare mothers, understanding and getting the mental health needed, and a death of the one keeping them all together. Like their pain ain’t over… it’s probably just beginning??

And then? THEN? We have the shit show of joli or is it olison or is it brix or is it friggin jadson? WHO KNOWS ANYMORE?! It all brings me pain because they’re currently doomed from the start and always have been. It brings me pain that Oli tries so hard but he just can’t get this shit right. It pains me when Matt undervalues himself. It pains me when Jaz is unhappy and I just want to give her a hug. It pains me… but also makes me laugh when Hudson tries to mark his territory (go read their group comm), like FIGURE IT OUT HUDSON?!?! Most of all it pains me that they’re so close to getting it right but they just need to play fucking musical chairs and switch partners almost.

Spoilers: it brings me pain that this won’t even happen in the next year

😭 prompt 2 - pain 😭

when i think of pain, i can only think of sienna and her journey on wtn. she has gone through so much pain recently and with henry now gone she's going to stumble and fall but with her friends and her family around her, she'll manage a bit better than if she was on her own. this girl has gone through a breakup, a diagnosis for her mental health (depression) and now the loss of her father and one of her best friends has disappeared.

sienna = pain, and honestly she does wonder if she is cursed at this point. had she not been such a bitch to those around her, would the world have been kinder to her? i guess we will never know...

a couple of honourable mentions are visar and pain. i blame @ellectricmuse and @khaotickae for both of those but i also commend them for their excellent writing and can only hope to be on their level someday.

WE THE NORTH WEEK 2k21 - DAY 002

↬ pain = pain ↫

LOOK i know they're not the embodiment of this photo up there, but what does that really matter? maybe i went into the archives of pari's phone or something and pulled this out, from a time when they were happily married? you don't know (she'd also deny the fact that any such photos would exist anywhere in her life so don't ask her about them) so for this prompt i took it a bit literally and i thought it was a bit funny bc pari and linc if you did not know, their ship name is #pain. and that is very accurate as well. so i'm not just being funny with this prompt. i still can't believe i got tricked into a female character but i'm also glad bc i love her and i love this ship. even tho they hurt me. @ellectricmuse muse and i recently did a thread from the past with these two and it hurt so much. i love what we created with the pair of them, their dynamic is a very real one. a divorced couple who do not get along with one another but are trying (most of the time) for the kids. they'd sooner murder one another than be nice to each other. their entire history is encased in pain. from the kouri parents reaction to pari wanting to marry linc, to his divorcing her, the way she got back at him and the dark bit of time for linc after the divorce. and now they're at one another's throats all the time. and idk who would be the successful one if they murdered the other. sure linc's a criminal and all but she's a woman scorned and you know how that saying goes. she's so frustrated and mad at linc and i'm p sure part of that has to do with what she will realize if she stops being mad at him. but it goes beyond that for me, bc i put pari in the kouri family (thanks for letting me hales) and then i realized the mistake bc it has brought me a lot of emotions. there are happy moments between them because the divorce happened several years ago. but there's so much pain packed into the relationship with hakim/pari/evy that you don't even know. there's abandonment there, there is misunderstanding. there are things that evy and hakim don't fully know. there's the pain of choosing love over family only to realize that it wasn't the right choice. so yes, i made a cute manip for them but i had to mask the #pain in some sort of pleasantness. ✌️ until day 003

Day 1: WTN WEEK - HAPPINESS It’s not just the characters and their stories that make me happy. I have put only a couple of my own and the ones that I stalk that really bring my joy to read or write with and there are so many more that I could have included but ..I don’t have the space. I could list them here but it would bore you by the end. I could go on and on and on for days on end about how great the writers are but to me, the thing that brings me happiness is what those writers mean to me. they not only write amazing characters for my characters but they also are amazing friends to me. talking to any one of you (listed in the centre) brings me joy. So before I ramble on and on and on, I will just conclude that you not only help to make me a better writer but also a better person. i love all of you individually but also collectively.

Day 1: Happiness "I'm just here to be a burrito." "Be a burrito or make us burritos?" "Do you know how to make burritos?"

✧ Nothing could make me happier than a trio of nerdy, awkward boys with a bromance figuring out how to live their teen lives and getting into shenanigans in the process. From getting detention for spilling pills on a hallway to fluffy sleepovers under heavy duvets, it was just impossible for us to put these three together and not get a happy thread. Bela and Natalie are a joy to thread with and I always find myself smiling as I read through what these three go through.@feelsliketheresoceans @mortalkombatalie
