I finished my jars for the new year last night! One, titled “When Adventure Calls” is a savings fund for midnight escapades, while the other is for writing down something great that happened every day of 2014. And the Buddha is the Buddha.

New Years advice

As 2013 comes to a close, i want to take this time out to give you some advice, college students. You still have a few weeks left in your winter break, which is a good time to prepare for the new year. Here are some ideas.

1) Make a new years "to do" list- I'm not knocking New Years Resolutions, but they don't work for me, because to me "resolutions" are too much about making conversations, and less about completing your goals...So this year, I'm trying something new :) A "to do" list for this year. I am going further to categorize the Personal/School/Club list i've made one for the college organization I'm involved in. The goal of the "to do" list is to keep you focused. Think of it as a one year deadline....Some of my goals include, taking care of my appearance, read more books, increase my Chinese vocabulary. Scratch off each item as you complete it. College students, goal list will help you in reaching your academic goals, and even as you enter the real world. The world has plenty of room for people who are goal oriented and focused. Do your best to complete the list and if you don't, put them on another "New Years" list. 

2) "Let go"- Whoever hurt you, whoever angered, whoever broke up with you. LET THEM GO. If someone is not in your life, there is a reason.  If they are meant to be in your life, they will catch up. Trust me, i have spent YEARS of my life holding on to people who were not meant to stay....You will be much happier if you let go...trust me. Your emotions won't change the people who hurt you, but your actions will change how you react to them. 

3) Try/reclaim hobbies- You might be surprised...I started drawing when i was 25 years old, I discovered it by accident.  This year, a friend of mine inspired start knitting after 11 years hiatus, and I'm better at it than ever :) You never know..Join a college organization that interest you, go to the cool coffee shop off campus etc. 

4) Be open to change- This is easier said then done. But if you are are open to the newness of each day, you live in the present. Treat each day as a gift you open. Ask yourself, what can I do different? Try that place on campus, introduce yourself to new people....which leads to....

5) Widen your network- Every person you know is a source, they have their own story, their own collection of knowledge they have acquired, and SO DO YOU. Why not share that? I'm not saying walk up to a stranger and tell your life story.  I'm saying engage yourself into the world around you.  The more people you talk to the wider your network will become... In college, you typically build your network with people who are the same major and or interest as you are, and you branch out from there...you never know who might be your future classmate or colleague.  The goal of having a network is to keep yourself current, and not isolated. In college, that is very easy to do. 

I hope this help you get in the game of life and stay in it! I hope this new year will bring you all you wish for and SO MUCH MORE. Remember, if you are out partying and you're drinking get a designated driver! If you doing new years"to do" list drop me a line i'll be glad to hear from you!
