at valar's fundamental nature, his most deep rooted instinct is protect and help. stranger, friend, or otherwise. Often at the expense of his own well-being. he has only once used his own healing on himself in game and will usually brush off concerns on his own wellbeing to worry and concern himself with the other party members first. it's always been part of him, even before narius and the grinners.

afterwards, after meeting narius and going into where they were usually working, that need and instinct became ever greater. luckily, narius was able to pull him back. but in the time between narius' death and the events of his campaign, valar ran himself ragged often. because it was better than what he truly wanted, which was blind revenge.

"woah!" valar on instinct stumbles back themselves. they didn't wear their armor or bring his weapon, and he stares at the stranger in equal confusion. "i--" he calms his voice, "my name is valar. i don't know where you are from, but you seem to have fallen. you startled some birds and a deer and i came to check on what caused it."

he moves closer, intending slow, but with the way he collapsed made him rush, kneeling once again beside him, "there were no ships. there is only you." they would normally ask first, but this felt like an extenuating circumstances. so, valar places a gentle hand on his shoulder. warmth like morning sunlight washes over loras, the inherent healing energy from valar's oath to the wild mother and the land they protect soothes the injuries at least party. "please, you are hurt." their voice shakes a bit.

"i mean no harm. on that i swear. i am a helper." he assures, "my clan is nearby. you can recover there." a pause, their voice gentle, a gentle attempt at persuading this stranger. "you are not from this place." it's a statement, though confused by it. valar is not a strong magical practitioner, he understands it very minimally. but this man feel like he has strong magic.

his ears rang with terror. explosions, impacts, shock waves, and debris falling, falling, falling. he was thrown in the air and yanked every which way like a rag doll. his very being came apart like a sweater and sewn back together in the roaring time stream. everything hurt. his head, his body, his chest …

“ ugh ... ” he felt a hand. a hand on his neck, cool against the skin with a temperature driven up by his racing pulse. the elf's eyes cracked open, emerging from an unconsciousness that he hadn't experienced for upwards of decades. the panic immediately set back in like it had never left him.

the cloak fluttered in the wind, thrown into a big iridescent arc however bearing the smell of ash and blood, as the elf spun around to face the potential threat. his dark brown eyes large with terror, shock, and a deep, agonizing anger. he scrambled onto his elbows, left arm extended, held in his hand something of a short, wooden wand with a sharp golden tip pointed at valar's face.

“ who are you?! w- where am i? a- avalir - the ship - ” he looked around frantically, searching for something and confused about what he was looking for. “ the ships - did they - did they make it? — the septarion! ” he tried to stand up only to fall back down from a combination of clumsiness and exhaustion. he yelped and curled up in pain.

we rescued the kids. my ranger was tricked into a cuddle pile with the other melee / non-casters. we got our first boat adventure. met some extra-planar visitors & my ranger shared the secret she has been keeping which is she was told how to find your way off plane and return (its a semi-closed demiplane, kinda like the shadowfell).
