Nice Autistic Childhood Feels:
watching your favorite movie or show over and over, going to the video rental place and picking out the same movie each time (if you’re old like me)
spinning around a pole, spinning around on a swing, spinning in general, swings in general
the toy or stuffed animal that had to go everywhere with you
sticking your hand out the window in the car and feeling the force of the air in your palm
incorporating your special interests into school assignments and activities whenever you could
creating elaborate fantasy universes and imaginary friends in your mind to daydream about for hours
staring at the screensaver or the weird music player animations on the computer
please feel free to add more, I know these aren’t universal but I love to reminisce about the nice parts of my childhood!

anyways here’s how to not be shitty to autistic people since apparently y’all need someone to sit down and tell you
things not to mock us for:
-“picky eating”
-wearing the same clothes everyday
-carrying around a comfort object (might be something like a stuffed animal, a toy...)
-wanting to have the same conversation / tell the same joke multiple times
-stimming in public or private
-stuttering
-repeating words or phrases, taking a long time to form a sentence
-being hyperempathetic / hyper emotional, spontaneous tears/outbursts/etc.
-on the other hand lack of apparent emotion, appearing disinterested / apathetic
-meltdowns
-not wanting to be put into social situations, being excessively tired
-our interests
kind things you can do for your autistic friends:
-letting us infodump to you
-listening to us when we’re having trouble making much sense, asking helpful questions, being patient with us
-“can I hug you?” goes a long way
-providing more food options / having our samefood available, eating can be really difficult for a lot of us
-helping them if they need help with social situations, like calling in for food or talking to a salesperson. these things can get really hard for us some days.
-letting us stim and not being judgemental
-giving us space when we need it without getting offended
-if you think we’re having a meltdown or sensory overload (you may be able to tell by our mask dropping, appearing disinterested, twitching, using their body to stim (maybe aggressively), etc.) here are some things you can do:
-if they’re violently stimming, ask them gently to open their hands if you think they might hurt themself
-use clear language to communicate with them
-be calm, please don’t yell
-offer them a way out of whatever situation they’re in
autistic ppl can add on, allistics can rb but be quiet

I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:
IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.
1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.
2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.
3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”
4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”
5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.
TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.
Reblog this to keep other users aware. Suicide isn’t a joke, and neither is someone’s life. If you didn’t know this, someone else may not, either. Pass it on.

⚠️ LONG POST ⚠️
If one more person shares another post that gives the vaguest symptoms ever and relates it to a SERIOUS MENTAL DISORDER, I’m going to lose my shit.
BPD, anxiety, depression, bipolar, PTSD, ADHD, autism, DID, schizophrenia, and more, are all SERIOUS DISORDERS that all need PROFESSIONAL DIAGNOSES! You can’t just see a post that lists symptoms THEY ALL HAVE IN COMMON and suddenly say you have that disorder IF YOU DON’T HAVE A DIAGNOSIS.
Not to mention a lot of these disorders STEM FROM TRAUMA/TRAUMA RELATED INCIDENTS IN A PERSON’S LIFE, if you share misinformation like this YOU’RE LITERALLY INVALIDATING PEOPLE’S TRAUMA!
This is how stigma begins, these posts dumb down the symptoms and suddenly the disorders are the next fashion statement and it makes it harder for genuine cases to get seen and diagnosed because there’s so many fake cases.
If you’re genuinely curious or concerned about yourself SEE A PROFESSIONAL. DO NOT TAKE A POST ON FACEBOOK AS A DIAGNOSIS OR THE BASIS TO DIAGNOSE YOURSELF.
And for the love of God, don’t tell someone who has these disorders “oh I think I have this because I get sad at sad things,” or whatever. These disorders literally disrupt people’s lives and by promiting misinformation you’re making it harder for us. Stop.

hey if y’all have a self-diagnosis i highly recommend staying off of reddit because i’m on the verge of tears from their hate for the people who self-diagnosis. i understand the complications of it of course but a diagnosis can cost a lot of money and some of us don’t have access to it right now. although a lot of traits do coincide with social anxiety there are some major differences that hint at neurodiversity. for me i have noticed how sensitive i am to changes in the enviroment and how easily i can become overstimulated. there are many other factors in a diagnosis but i heavily researched this and took multiple clinical tests. i did not want this i have been masking to be “normal” for so long that i fear the diversity. i did not want to believe any of my results but every test i have taken has said that i was, along with me having the majority of the symptoms. when taking the tests if i was unsure i always picked the answer i thought would make me “normal” but i still got the same results. it took me multiple days, multiple tests, and heck of a lot of research to accept this and i still refuse to tell people in my life out of fear.

I feel too sensitive to exist. Being insecure sucks. Not only does it wreck my feelings toward myself, I’ve become fragile to everything around me. To the people around me. I can’t take insults or arguing. I think everyone is mean or doesn’t like me. It feels so silly, but I can’t shake off the sadness. My first thought when things make me upset is I don’t want to live. I don’t like being this way anymore. I don’t like sharing these feelings to people, but I want someone to understand. How do I stop being fragile.

Mental illness is like fighting a war, where the enemy's strategy is, to convince you, that the war isn't actually happening.

Pro self-dx people make me sick
are you SURE they make you sick? i mean you can’t really KNOW if they make you sick unless you get a doctor’s opinion…

hey, other autistic people, do you get nervous when other people come into your room? my mom always thinks i'm hiding something, but it's just weird because it's my space and no one else is supposed to be in there. so, what i'm asking is do you get irritated or nervous when people come into your room?

not-so-friendly reminder to unfollow me if:
u think autism is a disease or illness
u think autism needs to be “cured”
u support Autism Speaks or organizations like it
u “feel bad” for ppl with autism and their families
u think autistic children are a burden to their parents/guardians
u don’t believe in getting children vaccinated because vaccines “cause autism”
