Top Driving Games! – 5 video game series you need to play!

Love them or loathe them, computer games have become insanely popular over the last few decades, causing a ripple effect of technological advancements. Thanks to driving simulators, video games consoles and even more recently, Virtual Reality, driving games have gone from strength to strength, becoming more realistic with each passing release.

The article below lists and compares five of our favourites. With so many games out there we only focused on these titles, apologies if we’ve missed out any of your go to games!

Forza

The semi-sim racing series threw a new and inspiring take on an ageing series upon its first release. An open world simulator allowing players to continuously enjoy various events, tracks and races in a massive selection of various vehicles.

Featuring high-quality graphics and a continuously expanding list of tasks and open-world possibilities, Forza, is a fantastic series!

Driver

The first release of this epic franchise SET.THE.BAR. The original Driver release saw players doing exactly what the game suggested… Driving. Allowing you to complete driving tasks, encouraging you to drive correctly and ultimately evolving into a stuntman’s guide to parallel parking, Driver continued where other titles in the genre had left off.

Unfortunately, despite being a fantastic and highly respected game, Driver 3 or Driv3r took the series into a different battle and attempted to follow the path games like GTA had left behind. Never say never, but it looks like GTA won that battle…

Burnout

A driving series that actively encourages you to purposely crash your car and to take your opponents off the road by any means necessary, beautiful! A series which has to have been developed for those suffering with road rage from the daily journeys to and from work An enjoyable arcade-style series perfect for multiplayer gaming or simply releasing anger, Burnout has been a fantastic series but its encouragement of crashing and poor driving skills keep it from being the perfect driving video game.

Gran Turismo

Around since near the dawn of time, Gran Turismo despite its lack of consistency has on the whole been one of the industry-standard leaders for driving games for decades.

Allowing you to compete from amateur or more basic tracks and settings, all the way up to 24 hour long challenges and more, Gran Turismo have prioritised their need to be the ultimate driving simulator over the need for any add-ons or flashy gimmicks.

Need For Speed

The ultimate car customisation gaming franchise. If you’ve played any of their past titles you will perhaps already be aware of the greatest title within this series… Need For Speed: Underground 2. Just uttering this legendary game title conjures up mental images of Peugeots with spoilers and a whole heap of go-faster stripes!

Top Driving Anthems! – 10 Songs guaranteed to get you singing.

The road can be a long and lonesome place, whether travelling on your own for hours on end or with the kids for what feels like hours on end. This is when a little musical accompaniment or at the very least local news on the radio comes in extremely beneficial.

It goes without saying that we each have our favourite genres, artists and songs. This list here complies in no particular order, ten songs which we believe are fantastic soundtracks to any journey. There’s bound to be a few you like and possibly a few you hate, let us know what you think in the comments!

Sweet Home Alabama – Lynrd Skynrd

A driving classic for many years now, the anthem on Alabama is a much loved and well-received song choice. Guaranteed to get the whole car singing within moments and will almost certainly get stuck in your head for days!

Take Me Home, Country Roads – John Denver

Keepin’ it Country, John Denver supplies the soundtrack to countless long car journeys home. ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ will turn any sluggish, venture back home into an instant singalong. Nothing but nostalgia and feel-good factor, fantastic!

Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen

No top list of songs of any variety is complete without the legendary band that is Queen. The near six-minute epic truly defines the word ‘Anthem’. Bohemian Rhapsody will always generate images of Wayne’s World to those of us blessed enough to live through the ’90s but will always remain a driving anthem throughout the ages!

Highway To Hell – AC/DC

It’s only fitting that some of the songs within this list have names revolving around roads and highways. The 1979 smash hit ‘Highway to Hell” acts as a fitting accompaniment to both joyful and joyless journeys alike.

On The Road Again – Willie Nelson

No driving playlist could be complete without Willie Nelson’s classic ‘On The Road Again’. Perfectly showcasing the joys of motoring and being out there on that big ‘ol open road, travelling from destination t destination this is an anthem which deserves its place in history.

I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – The Proclaimers

Although technically a song about walking a vast distance, ‘I’m Gonna Be’ is one of those annoyingly addictive songs which you just can’t help but adore. If you don’t believe that the Proclaimer’s classic single isn’t worthy of a spot on this list, tell us one time you’ve listened to the song and not joined in… Exactly!

Life Is A Highway – Tom Cochrane

Recently revived for the Pixar film series ‘Cars’, ‘Life Is A Highway’ is an anthem that can truly call this list home. With the famous chorus “Life is a highway, I wanna ride it all night long…” Tom Cochrane created an anthem perfect for both car journeys and defining life.

The Passenger – Iggy Pop

Perhaps more ideal for those being chauffeured around or at least those in the back seats of the vehicle. ‘The Passenger’ by Iggy Pop, has been a fan favourite for decades and has been known to be sung on many journeys. A top track guaranteed to get the entire car singing.

Carry on Wayward Son – Kansas

There are few bands that can truly create an epic quite as Kansas did with this piece. We challenge anyone to listen to this song and not find themselves joining in OR singing it to themselves several hours later… Sometimes a classic is just a classic!

Place Your Hands On – Reef ‘Place Your Hands On’ is another song that people can’t help but join in with. Perhaps it’s the unique and simply unusual vocals that encourage listeners to put on their best “Reef” voice or maybe it’s the upbeat, fun-loving instrumentals which grab listeners by the hand. Whatever it is, it works! Be sure to pop them on when you’re driving next!
