Speaking on his roadmap, Shivraj Singh said that his government is making big improvements in agriculture and now it is preparing to increase the income of farmers. Shivraj Singh said that in the last two years, the investment of Rs 2 lakh crore has come in the state. This investment has led to large employment in the state and now there is a need to further increase this employment.

Shivraj said that if there is any crime against women and children then FIR will definitely be written in police stations. Shivraj said that like previous governments, his government does not believe in improving the data by not filing FIRs.

Petrol, diesel prices hiked for third consecutive day; check rates in Mumbai, Delhi

New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices on Saturday were revised upwards for the third-consecutive day, further negating the Centre’s one-time excise duty reduction of Rs 2.50 per litre on both essential fuels.

It may be noted that petrol price has climbed to Rs 82.66 per litre in Delhi after rates were hiked by 18 paise by major oil PSUs. In Mumbai, commuters now have to pay Rs 88.12 for a litre of petrol.

In Hyderabad, too, petrol prices are almost close to touching Rs 88 per litre. Cities such as Trivandrum, Patna, Chennai and Kolkata are also paying higher rates as compared to the average petrol price.

On the other hand, diesel prices again hiked steeply by 29-31 paise per litre, taking its rate in the national capital over Rs 75 per litre while the price is close to Rs 79 per litre in Mumbai. Today increase takes the price of diesel in Hyderabad to closer to Rs 82 per litre and is the highest among all the states.

It is worth mentioning that Trivandrum, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata, Bangalore and Patna are some of the places where diesel prices are retailing much higher than the average.

While the government tried to alleviate the burden of high fuel prices by implementing a one-time excise duty cut of Rs 2.50 per litre, the constant hike in price seems to be rapidly eroding the efforts.

In light of constantly increasing price, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet with oil ministry officials today to chalk out pragmatic strategies to counter the effect of rising oil prices. It may be noted that PM Modi will be discussing the plan on setting a pattern for importing oil from Iran.

According to a report on livemint.com, the prime minister is expected to discuss ways of continuing with oil imports from Iran amid sanctions put forth by the United States.

While India imports around 83% of crude oil, it imported one of the largest quantities from Iran. It remains to be seen if the government can come out with a firm solution to curtail ever-increasing oil prices.

Fast bowler Dane Paterson was named the man of the match but said the award could have been shared by all South Africa’s bowlers as the hosts clinched a Twenty20 series win against Zimbabwe at Senwes Park on Friday. South Africa took a 2-0 lead in the three-match series with a six-wicket win after restricting Zimbabwe to 132 for seven in their 20 overs. It followed a 3-0 one-day series win. “Credit goes to the whole bowling unit. We kept it tight tonight,” said Paterson, who took two top-order wickets for 22 runs.

Left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was the only expensive bowler, taking one for 37, with his last over leaking 24 runs, including three sixes by top-scorer Sean Williams, but captain Faf du Plessis said Shamsi had bowled three “really good overs” before being targeted by Williams, who made 41 off 28 balls.

“It was one of our best games,” said Du Plessis. “All the bowlers were really good tonight and our batters made it look pretty easy.”

Prospect of Trump-Xi talks raises hope for thaw in trade war

With China and the United States opening the door to a meeting next month between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump, hopes are rising for a potential easing of tensions in the trade war between the world’s two largest economies.

Worries about the increased tariffs the two sides have imposed on each other’s goods contributed to a dizzying bout of volatility in financial markets this week. The higher tariffs raise costs for companies in both countries, and economists say that if they remain in place indefinitely, they could depress economic growth.

A Xi-Trump meeting, if it happens, would take place during a summit of leaders of the Group of 20 biggest global economies in Argentina in late November.

“I don’t think any decision has been made in regards to a meeting,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told reporters Saturday in Bali, Indonesia, where he’s attending global finance meetings.

Still, Larry Kudlow, Mr. Trump’s top economic adviser, said in Washington on Friday that preparations for the talks were under way.

“It looks like there will be a meeting in Buenos Aires at the G-20,” Mr. Kudlow said in an interview with CNBC. “We are looking at it. The Chinese are looking at it. Preparations are being made. I can’t say 100 percent certainty, but there is no question everybody is looking at it.”

Mr. Kudlow said that so far, the administration viewed China’s negotiating offers as “rather unsatisfactory” but that “maybe talks between the two heads of state will bear fruit.”

Asked if China would need to make specific concessions for such a meeting to take place, Mr. Mnuchin said, “To the extent that we can make progress toward a meeting I would encourage that and that’s something we’re having discussions about, but for the moment there’s no preconditions. The President will decide on that.”

The trade feud has been fueled by U.S. accusations that China engages in cyber-theft and coerces foreign companies into handing over technology in return for access to the Chinese market, as well as by Trump’s anger over China’s trade surplus with the U.S. It is far from clear that the U.S. might be preparing to consider lifting penalty tariffs on about $250 billion of Chinese products.

Mr. Mnuchin repeated the Trump administration’s determination to achieve a more balanced trading relationship that does not require foreign companies to form joint ventures to transfer technology to gain market access.

Lu Kang, a spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry, offered no specifics on Friday but said, “I have also seen the relevant reports.”

The Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post have cited officials as saying Mr. Trump has decided to proceed with a meeting with Mr. Xi.

Global indexes bounced back sharply on Friday after their recent plunges, on word of the possible presidential meeting, along with strong Chinese export data. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index gained 0.5 percent to 22,694.66 after a nearly 4 percent loss on Thursday.

On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 305 points, or 1.2 percent, in late-morning trading, and the Nasdaq composite surged 138 points, or 1.9 percent. Later, both stock indexes gave up much of their gains.

Friday’s volatility followed a swoon over the previous two days that erased 1,300 points from the Dow and dragged the S&P 500 down more than 5 percent.

Reports that Mnuchin has advised against labeling China a currency manipulator a status that could trigger penalties were also seen as easing tensions. The Chinese currency has been falling in value against the dollar in recent months, raising concerns that Beijing is devaluing its currency to make Chinese goods more competitive against U.S. products.

In his comments in Bali, Mr. Mnuchin did not say what the forthcoming Treasury report, set to come out next week, will conclude about China’s currency practices. In the past, Treasury has placed China on a watch-list but found that Beijing did not meet the threshold to be labeled a currency manipulator.

Mr. Mnuchin met on Thursday with Yi Gang, head of China’s central bank.

“I expressed my concerns about the weakness of the currency.” Mr. Mnuchin said.

Concerns have been raised that China, the largest foreign holder of U.S. Treasurys, might start dumping its holdings as a way to pressure the United States in the trade dispute. But Mr. Mnuchin said this possibility didn’t concern him because it would be contrary to Beijing’s economic interests to start dumping its Treasury holdings.

“That would be very costly for them,” Mr. Mnuchin said.

China’s surplus with the United States widened to a record $34.1 billion in September as exports to the American market rose 13 percent from a year earlier to $46.7 billion, down slightly from August’s 13.4 percent growth. Imports of American goods increased 9 percent to $12.6 billion, down from August’s 11.1 percent growth.

Beijing’s exports to the United States have at least temporarily defied forecasts they would weaken after being hit by punitive U.S. tariffs of up to 25 percent.

September marked the second straight record Chinese monthly trade surplus with the United States. Export numbers have been buoyed by producers rushing to fill orders before American tariffs rose. But they also benefit from “robust U.S. demand” and a weaker Chinese currency, which makes their goods cheaper abroad, Louis Kuijs of Oxford Economics said in a report.

The Chinese yuan has lost nearly 10 percent of its value against the dollar this year. That prompted suggestions Beijing might weaken the exchange rate to help exporters. But that might hurt China’s economy by encouraging an outflow of capital. The central bank has tightened controls on currency trading to prevent further declines.

MUMBAI: A Maharashtra BJP spokesperson on Friday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the “11th incarnation” of Lord Vishnu, prompting ridicule by the Opposition, with the Congress calling it an “insult” to the gods. “Hon PM @narendramodi ji is the 11th #Avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu (sic),” state BJP spokesperson Avadhut Wagh said on Twitter.

Talking to a Marathi news channel, he said, “The country is fortunate that we have got a god-like leader in Modi.”

Attacking Mr Wagh, state Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe said it was an “insult” to the gods.

“This is also an attempt to find lost political ground (by Wagh). I do not think this (comment) needs to be given much importance,” he added.

The remark was reflective of the “low level of culture” within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mr Londhe said.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jitendra Awhad also took a dig at Wagh.

“Wagh is an engineering graduate from VJTI. There is a need now to check if his certificate (degree) is genuine. This was not expected from him,” he told reporters in Mumbai.

The Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) is an engineering college in Mumbai. Founded in 1887, it is one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia. It was known as the Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute till it adopted its present name on January 26, 1997.

Sajid Khan steps down as 'Housefull 4' director over allegations of sexual harassment

Mumbai: Director Sajid Khan on Friday announced his departure from “Housefull 4” in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment against him by two women.

In a post on Twitter, Sajid said he was taking the “moral responsibility” to step down till he can allay the allegations.

“In the wake of the allegations against me and the pressure being put on my family, my producer and the stars of my film ‘Housefull 4’, I must take the moral responsibility of stepping down from my directorial post, till the time I can allay the allegations and prove the truth.. Request my friends in the media to kindly not pass judgment till the truth is out,” he said.

His departure comes following sexual harassment allegations made by actor Saloni Chopra and a journalist.

The film’s lead star Akshay Kumar also announced that the film’s shooting has been put on hold for now.

“I’ve just landed back in the country last night and reading all the news has been very disturbing. I’ve requested the producers of Housefull 4 to cancel the shoot until further investigation,” he wrote.

“This is something that requires stringent action. I will not work with any proven offenders and all those who have been subjugated to harassment should be heard and given the justice they deserve,” the 51-year-old actor added.

Akshay’s wife Twinkle was first to ask the film’s cast to a “firm stand” on the allegations against the director.

“Appalled hearing multiple incidents of harassment and it is truly horrific to hear what these women have been through. Everyone involved in Housefull needs to take a firm stance on this issue. This cannot go on,” she wrote on Twitter.

The film also stars Nana Patekar, who was the first celebrity to be accused of harassment by actor Tanushree Dutta a fortnight ago.

He has denied the allegation and the matter is sub judice.

Dutta’s revelations have sparked what media is terming as India’s #MeToo movement, where journalists, actors and professionals have taken to social media to talk about workplace harassment.

Mumbai: Actor Bipasha Basu on Friday said she was glad that women were opening up about their experiences with Sajid Khan, whose attitude towards female cast and crew members on the sets of a film disturbed her.

Sajid has been accused of sexual harassment by two women – actor Saloni Chopra and a journalist.

Bipasha, who worked with Sajid on 2014 film “Humshakals”, said though she never faced harassment at the hands of the director, she always found his behaviour towards women rude.

“I am glad that women are speaking up about the atrocities of these men with power and clout… But nothing of that sort happened with me… It was just his general attitude towards women that would disturb me on set- he cracked lewd jokes openly and was pretty rude to all girls .

“I was told by all not to say anything to him and stoop to his level- so I quietly finished my work as a professional and explained my stance to the producers, that I couldn’t associate myself with this film anymore as I could lose my temper any moment,” she posted on Twitter.

Bipasha and Sajid had a fallout during the making of “Humshakals” and the actor decided not to promote the film. The movie also starred Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor, Esha Gupta and Tamannaah Bhatia.

In another tweet, Bipasha praised Tanushree Dutta, who kickstarted  the #MeToo movement in India after she alleged that actor Nana Patekar misbehaved with her on the sets of a 2008 film.

“Kudos to #tanushreedutta… Because of her so many women have the courage to speak out against these men who take advantage of women… Owing to their fame, power and clout,” she wrote.

Twinkle Khanna asks 'Housefull 4' cast, husband Akshay to take stand on #MeToo allegations

Mumbai: Twinkle Khanna on Friday called on the cast and crew of “Housefull 4” to take a “firm” stand on the multiple incidents of sexual harassment being reported on social media and said she was horrified by what women had to go through.

The actor’s comments come after “Housefull 4” director Sajid Khan was accused of sexual harassment by two women.

The comedy film features Nana Patekar, who has also been “outed” by actor Tanushree Dutta, as well Khanna’s husband Akshay Kumar.

“Appalled hearing multiple incidents of harassment and it is truly horrific to hear what these women have been through. Everyone involved in Housefull needs to take a firm stance on this issue. This cannot go on,” she wrote on Twitter.

Khanna had earlier voiced support for Dutta, saying a healthy working environment is a fundamental right.

“Please read this thread before judging or shaming #TanushreeDutta a working environment without harassment and intimidation is a fundamental right and by speaking up this brave woman helps pave the way towards that very goal for all of us,” she had tweeted.

Patekar has denied Dutta’s allegations that he harassed her during a film shoot in 2008 and sent her a legal notice.

Khan has not yet responded to the allegations against him.

The cast of “Housefull 4”, produced by Sajid Nadiadwalla, also includes Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Sharad Kelkar, Pooja Hegde, Kriti Kharbanda and Kriti Sanon.

India elected to UN rights Council with highest number of votes

United Nations: India was elected with the highest number of votes by the General Assembly to the influential Human Rights Council on Friday with a pledge to combat intolerance.

India received 188 votes, the highest polled by any of the 18 countries elected from the 193-member General Assembly.

India’s Permanent Representative Syed Akbaruddin told IANS after the vote, “It is a reflection of how the world community sees India and its role in the world. Human rights for us is a matter of natural choice, we are a democracy, we are a robust and vibrant society,” he added.

This is the fifth time India is elected to the Geneva-based Council, the main body of the UN charged with promoting and monitoring human rights.

On the Council, Akbaruddin said, “You will find us active on a whole host of things relating to human rights, but also in a non-confrontational way and and trying to promote a balanced approach to human right.”

When it nominated itself for the Council, India pledged that it “will continue to support international efforts to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.”

India’s presence on the Council will be important because the previous UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Raad Al Hussein asked the body to facilitate an international commission of inquiry into allegations of human rights violation in Kashmir.

His successor Michelle Bachelet and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres have backed Zeid’s recommendation, which Pakistan – a member of the Council – is campaigning for.

So far, no other country has backed Zeid’s call for the investigation.

Bangladesh, which is at the frontlines of dealing with the Rohingya crisis, was also elected elected with 178 votes to the Council to fill one of the five vacancies for three year terms from the Asia-Pacific region.

The regional group endorsed five countries, which matched the number of seats open for election this year, and they were the only countries on the ballot. The other regional candidates were Bahrain, Fiji and the Philippines.

Thirteen other countries representing the other four regions were also elected to the Council.

The United States, which withdrew from the Council earlier this year, received a symbolic one write-in vote.

In January India will join China and Nepal, besides Pakistan, which were elected to the 47-member Council in previous years to serve three-year terms.

When it nominated itself for the Council, India showcased its position as “the world’s largest democracy (and) India’s secular polity.”

In the nomination pledge, India presented a broader approach to human rights, emphasising climate justice, health and poverty alleviation.

India was among the first batch of 47 countries elected to the Council in 2006 soon after it was set up and received an initial one-year term instead of three to facilitate a rotating roster of vacancies each year.

It was again elected in 2007, 2011 and 2014 to three-year-terms.

Countries can be elected for only two consecutive terms and India took a year’s break when its term ended in 2017.

Elections were held by secret ballot in the 193-member General Assembly on Friday, although the number of candidates for all the five regions matched the vacancies making it a formality. But it gave countries a choice to refrain from voting for some countries.

On the 47-member Council the seats are allocated based on “equitable regional distribution” giving the Asia-Pacific region a total of 13 seats, with some coming up for election every year.

Hyderabad: A case was filed Friday against a man belonging to Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh for allegedly breaching security cordon at the Uppal Stadium where the second cricket test match between India and West Indies is being played.

Police inspector P Venkateswarlu said a case of trespassing was slapped against 19-year-old Mohammad Khan, who breached security cordon to get up close with Virat Kohli.

It happened an hour into the morning session when he climbed the barricade and sprinted around 70 metres towards Kohli before engaging in a tight hug and then trying to take a selfie with the skipper.

Kohli was seen trying to avoid his hug as the security personnel came and whisked him away.

Hyderabad: Fans breaching security cordon to get up close with Virat Kohli is becoming a new norm as a spectator reached up to the India skipper during the first day of the second Test here Friday.

It happened an hour into the morning session when a man climbed the barricade and sprinted around 70 metres towards Kohli before engaging in a tight hug and then trying to take a selfie with the skipper. Kohli was seen trying to avoid the man’s hug as the security personnel came and whisked him away.

A similar incident had happened during the first Test in Rajkot also when Kohli was surrounded by two pitch invaders trying to take selfies.

Chouhan asked Kamal Nath to suggest Rahul that he should not deceive the state farmers as they do not want loan waiver but appropriate price of their produce. Chouhan claimed that BJP-led government at the Centre did historic work by announcing support price 1.5 times higher than the cost.

Taking at dig at Congress, Chouhan said during its 10 year rule, the party did nothing for the people and development of the state. He went on comparing the availability of necessities like electricity and drinking water during the Congress, BJP regimes. Congress government in past 60 years did nothing and turned Madhya Pradesh into a BIMARU state, but the BJP government in its 15 years has transformed it into a developed and progressive state. Xiaomi Sells Record 2.5 Million Products in 2.5 Days During Flipkart, Amazon, Mi.com Sales, Company Says

E-commerce websites Flipkart and Amazon are in the middle of their biggest annual sales and it is pouring offers on a plethora of products. The Flipkart Big Billion Days and Amazon Great Indian Festival sale are offering discounts and other deals on a varied range of products across several brands, one of the most popular being Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer claims to have sold over 2.5 million devices within two and a half days during the sales. The Xiaomi products include smartphones, Mi LED TVs, Mi Band 3, Mi Power Banks, Mi Earphones, Mi Routers, and other Mi Ecosystem and accessory products that were sold across the Amazon and Flipkart sales, as well as, Mi.com’s Mi Super Sale.

Xiaomi says that the record number of sales was achieved between 12pm on October 9 and 7pm on October 11. To put the numbers in perspective, the company claimed that it managed to sell more than two million smartphones during the duration and it is the highest number of handsets that the company has ever sold in that mentioned period. To recall, last year, Xiaomi had claimed to have sold 1 million smartphones during the first two days of festive sale between September 20 and 22 September, across the same platforms.

Additionally, Xiaomi sold over 100,000 Mi LED TV units and over 400,000 Mi Ecosystem products and accessories in the duration. It is also claimed to be the highest number of Mi LED TV units Xiaomi has sold in a period of 2.5 days.

The Redmi 6A smartphone was the best selling product across all categories, Xiaomi said. Also, all the ten bestselling smartphones on Amazon were Xiaomi smartphones. Meanwhile, Mi LED TV became the top bestseller in the TV category, Mi Band 3 in the Wearable category, Mi Power Bank in the power banks category, Mi Home Security Camera in the home security category, and Mi Air Purifier 2S in the air purifier category.

Virat Kohli is back as the captain of the Indian One-day International team for the first two matches of the series against the Windies. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced the Indian team for the first two ODIs of the five-match series. Virat Kohli is back in command as India’s skipper after taking a break during the recently concluded Asia Cup. The first ODI will be played on October 21 in Guwahati at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, whereas the second game will be hosted by the YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on October 24. Both the ODIs will be day-night fixtures.

One inclusion that grabs eyeballs is that of young wicket-keeper and swashbuckling left-handed batsman Rishabh Pant, who will be seen playing second fiddle to first-choice stumper MS Dhoni.

Other notable inclusion is that of left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed, who performed exceedingly well in the Asia Cup, which India won after beating Bangladesh in the final.

US announces measures to restrict nuclear technology exports to China

Washington: As part of its pressure campaign against Beijing, the Trump administration has announced measures to prevent the export of nuclear technology to China, alleging that it has been trying to illicitly acquire sensitive American technologies.

“The United States cannot ignore the national security implications of China’s efforts to obtain nuclear technology outside of established processes of the US-China civil nuclear cooperation,” Secretary of Energy Rick Perry said after his department announced the measures Thursday. These national security measures are results of a US government policy review prompted by concerns regarding China’s efforts to obtain nuclear material, equipment, and advanced technology from US companies.

The policy guidance establishes a clear framework for the disposition of authorisation requests for transfers to China that are currently on hold because of military diversion and proliferation concerns. As per the new policy, there will be a presumption of denial for new licence applications or extensions to existing authorisations related to the China General Nuclear Power Group, which is currently under indictment for conspiring to steal US nuclear technology.

“For decades, China has maintained a concerted, central government-run strategy to gain nuclear advantage,” a senior administration official told reporters during a conference call. These efforts are necessary to strike an appropriate balance between the long-term risk to US national security and economic interests, as well as the immediate impact to the US nuclear industrial base, the Department of Energy said.

China is “actively pursuing our advanced nuclear technology for diversion to military use in its third-generation nuclear power submarine, in the development of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and in strategic dual-use nuclear-powered platforms, such as small modular reactors and floating nuclear power plants deployable in the South China Sea,” the official said.

The official alleged that China was already using nuclear power on man-made islands it created in the South China Sea. “We know that they are developing platforms for use on these islands and for nuclear-powered icebreakers, also floating nuclear power plants, which give the potential for rapid deployment to any platform that it could be tethered to,” the official said.

In 2017, China imported nuclear technology worth USD 170 million from the US. The administration “carefully weighed” the economic impact, the official said.

“We understand the US industry may suffer in the short term. We believe that in the long term, this policy will benefit the US and protect the American nuclear industry,” the official asserted.
