Hunterian Museum
Visited Hunterian to look at the specimens. Very interesting. I would like to go back & draw some of them.
I also went to the Zoology museum on campus too.

Mitchell Library
In February I went to Mitchell Library and looked at Govan Poorhouse applications in archives - see sketchbook for more info.

Final outcome placed in final location.
After the initial worry
about moving location & hanging, it couldn’t have gone more
smoothly. Once I had the tools, I managed to hang the piece
myself in under 30 mins. I was ready days before the opening,
which left me plenty of time to make refine the zines and do contextual before exhibition
The work looked really strong with the white wall as backdrop. The bold colours really popper. It was definitely the right idea to leave the threads hanging from the acetate, this added another element to the work.
The wire was barely visible from a certain distance, so the piece ‘levitated’. Very happy with final result. If I had more time, I would definitely think about making a video from the piece, incorporating the elements that I have mentioned previously - sound, smell, visual etc

First hanging attempt.
I brought the piece already prepared to hang, but I was advised to cut off the 4 hanging wires as it was too inconvenient trying to hang the work like that. Therefore 4 wires were tied to the ceiling and I attached the first section to the 2 lateral wires. However, they weren’t far enough apart on the ceiling and also too far forward in the exhibition space.
I was extremely frustrating that I could not direct how I thought it should be hung as the wires were not put in the right place in the first place (too far forward, too close together) and then the scaffolding was moved away so no correction could be made. However, the overall placement was incorrect anyway as I had not anticipated how far apart each corner of the sculpture must be elevated in order to hang the piece successfully.
This was a very frustrating and worrying point. I felt that I had made huge mistakes and calculated incorrectly.

First experiment with the fishing wire. Initially tried the acetate portrait but after some thought, I think landscape is more fitting and more symbolic of the work.
I have realised that in order to separate each sheet and prevent them all sliding together, I need to put small knots on either side of the sheet on BOTH corners. I was worried this many ruin the aesthetic but the knots were so small, it was very subtle.

Made some zines for the exhibition. Just photocopies of my prints, I layered different ones over each other to get varied results. Unfortunately they came out MUCH darker than I anticipated so in the future, I think I would experiment with the colours settings on the printer first.
I organised all the pages in each zine randomly, so they were not the same.
I used the sewing machine to sew the pages together/make the spine. This added a really interesting and individual element to each zine too.

Sewing>therapy>relaxing>ASMR
Process heavy again.
I find the repetitive noise of the machine to be very meditative (when it’s not going too fast!). I would like to bring all this together at some point in the future - sound, smell, visual, spoken word, abstract imagery.

Interesting lines from the medium here. If decide to proceed further with this piece, I would definitely make video work.
