hello, sabrina. I hope this e-mail finds you safe and sound. it's been quite a while since our last conversation, I've been swamped to my ears with case files upon case files and I find myself wondering about things that are nowhere near at hand. much of them are beyond my control, which is a point of great frustration, but some are even further than that - so far out to where you must be, wherever you are. wherever you've been, or how you've been and your sudden silence exacerbates it greatly that I lose my present days wondering about the minute details of the ones you must be having or those we could have had. I wonder if you've managed to clean off those high shelves at theresa's, with a ladder or something more useful than I would have been, or if you'd walked past some old structure surely only you of all of town would find a fascinating part of and if you would have sent me a picture, or if you'd sat on that half-painted bench near town hall - that'll always half-painted, I fear - and if you'd ever imagined us coincidentally meeting there and going for that lunch and tea we were meant to have after our hard day of work comparing our worsened height difference. I wonder if we would have met there. mostly, I wonder if you're alright. I know I'm not the easiest to get along with or like. god knows how you've managed when I was younger and arguably with less the empathy or understanding I've developed now that I'm far apart from the ids of my youth, but I figured you did anyway. it means very much to me that you did. with much concern, I do wonder if that changed - or if something changed now that I'm not privy to. if it has and you don't wish to tell me, I hope it's nothing too drastic, and that you'll find your way through and that you can always reach out to me for anything it is that may trouble you. I am your friend and am well equipped to be with accumulated strength and years of practice and I could recall extremely easily and fondly. If it's something of my own doing, then I really wish you'd tell me. so I could rectify it or make it stop. I would want so badly for it to. if it's another combination of the above, if it's something of concern that you wish not to share with me, or if it's nothing at all and you find yourself moving forward onto life and not wishing to hold onto things that brought you pain and all that throbs around that source of pain, then feel free to do away with this message; delete it or keep it there for your consideration if you wish to at any point. I'll understand and leave you be, with great difficulty. I'm happy to have had you back, if even briefly, but I find myself forced to say that for me to claim I've changed all these years away from you is for me to be selfish - or rather be brazen with my selfishness - in wanting to keep you in my life. I miss you endlessly, in short. I miss talking to you. you've made it so impossibly easy to, talking. I've only just remembered that I have so much to say in so long.

genie, rather impish with all the more reasons to 'rightfully' tug at the blondie sr. in her contact list's figurative ponytail, feels inclined to disagree. already having done swift work in swapping the name cards on their table to seat them even closer though not as close as she'd personally like but she'd take crumbs to further ruffle her close friend's sister's pretty feathers; basking in the triumph of a successful night in her bed. a low hum sounds through her twisted smirk, her eyes fixed in a playful squint as her head slowly nodded along. “mhm, right - you'd think the universe might have more pressing issues than the two of us canoodling, but hey, cheers - to the universe!” she seals her playful snarking with a finishing gulp of her champagne flute before prying some more. “so what really had you scurry off at the ass crack of dawn, hm? another meltdown from little miss superstar over there?” her chin juts at cassandra's client, her scanning gaze otherwise unmoving.

As Cassandra settled into her seat at the fundraising dinner, she couldn't ignore the sinking feeling in her stomach when she realized who was seated beside her. Turning slightly, she met the gaze of her most recent one-night stand, a mix of surprise and awkwardness flashing across her features, especially after remembering that she slipped out without a word, before they even woke up. "Well, this is... unexpected," she quipped, trying to mask her discomfort with a hint of humor. "Funny how the universe plays games sometimes, I suppose."
