fortunately, remus never had to go through a breakup, so he couldn’t relate to the crying girl that emma was consoling as he walked up. but he could tell that emma was crying out for help, and he offered her a small smile. “emma!” he called out as if he had just seen her as he came jogging up, pretending to be in an emergency. “goodness, i finally found you,” he started. “slughorn’s been looking for you for ages, he says that he has some major slytherin business that he needs to go over with you.” it was a lame excuse, and he didn’t really know what else he could offer to get her away from the third year.

𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐋 emma could do to hide the wave of relief that washed over her. she leapt to her feet, barely sparing the third year a second glance. “ —— well, that sounds important. you’d better bring me to him. ” a little stilted, perhaps, but emma never claimed to be a good liar. as soon as they were around the corner from the third year, emma closed her eyes in gratitude, exhaling through her nose. “ —— MERLIN, i can’t thank you enough. ”

Amelia would have laughed as she watched Emma Vanity’s attempt at comforting someone, if it weren’t for the poor girl sobbing loudly. She gave in to her instinct to intervene as the Slytherin looked at her for help. Walking over quickly, she put an arm around the girl’s shoulders. Amelia offered the girl some less traumatizing advice, and kept her arm around her until she’d stopped sobbing. She gave her directions to the kitchen, sending her off to get some hot chocolate and be doted on by the house elves. When the girl had finally left, Amelia turned to Emma. “Really?” she asked, “Were you raised by wolves?”

𝐄𝐌𝐌𝐀 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐖 how to do a lot of things. she knew how to curtsey and how to walk down a staircase with posture straight as a pin. she knew how to perform a flawless d’orazio dive and steal the quaffle from the opposing team. what she didn’t know how to do, however, was how to comfort a sobbing thirteen year old girl who had just gone through her first breakup, to which emma, unfortunately, had borne witness. “ —— when you think about it, it’s really not THAT big of a deal. you’ll probably go through several more breakups before you settle down with someone, ” she pointed out logically, which only caused the third year to cry even harder. emma winced, glancing with wide eyes towards the only other person in the vicinity in a silent plea for help.

Prefect duty, there wasn’t anything quite like it; Rita would see things that, had she not been a prefect, she might never have seen, which worked just fine for her – she got the exclusive, Hogwarts After Dark. She kept her notebook tucked safely in her pocket, as well as a quill, both were just in case.
She flitted up and down the corridors, disappointed, only passing the occasional ghost that, when it saw her, floated away. They’d tell anyone who listened what they’d heard going on around the castle, except if that person happened to be Rita Skeeter. She’d just have to ask Myrtle later. But, at the sound of actual footsteps, there seemed to be an extra pep in her step, as she went to meet whomever’s feet were making the racket.
As she turned the corner, her mouth twisted into a candy-sweet smile and she instantly gravitated towards them, “Well,” She said, with over-exaggerated condescension, “What are you doing out and about?”

is that NATASHA LIU BORDIZZO wearing that SLYTHERIN scarf ? no, it appears to be EMMA VANITY who happens to be a SEVENTH year and a PUREBLOOD !! SHE is CISFEMALE, and i heard they’re AMBITIOUS and PRAGMATIC, but might also seem SELF-SERVING and CYNICAL. they appear to be leaning towards the side of NEUTRAL, but this is a conversation we should be having somewhere else.
aesthetic: the smell of broom varnish, fog on cold mornings, hair carefully pinned up, nimble fingers dancing across ivory piano keys, muscles burning under stiffly starched dresses, the way the world looks lit by lightning, a fine-toothed silver comb, black coffee, always being the first one awake
okay so ! emma is the only child of an arranged marriage. her parents, angeline zhao and frederick vanity, were never in love, nor did they pretend they were. to them, their marriage was a business deal, born of duty instead of love.
a more prudent couple would have had more children in hopes of having a son, but emma’s mother refused. she had already gone through a difficult pregnancy, and she was not fond of the idea of a flock of children running around her house. one was perfectly enough.
she was raised on the importance of tradition and duty, taught manners and modesty, etiquette and eloquence. she never even thought of a life outside of the one that was planned for her, and why should she ? it was the life her parents lived, the life their parents lived, a life where she’d be cared for and provided for
emma always liked things neat and organized. as a child, she always wanted to know exactly what was going to happen – the itinerary for the day, exactly where they were going and when. having everything planned out calms her.
she’s quiet, reserved, solitary. but she’s always observing and listening and absorbing
she really is not one to show strong emotion, preferring to keep everything compartmentalized inside her. she likes both her surroundings and her emotions to be neatly organized.
she’s always known she’ll have an arranged marriage, but she’s never minded much. that’s one more thing all sorted out ahead of time.
however, she is still fiercely independent ! her thoughts and opinions are hers alone, and she isn’t afraid to say what she thinks. although she’s accepted the pureblood life her parents raised her for, that’s her willing choice. she doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do.
honestly, emma is the image of a proper pureblood woman – except for her love for quidditch. on the pitch, all bets are off. she loves the adrenaline rush she gets, the bitter competition, the strategy of the game. her parents aren’t super thrilled about it, but they allow it since she goes along with everything else.
her pet peeve is people who are irrational and impulsive and create unnecessary drama. emma hates drama. she prefers things to be simple and to the point, without any added frills. she’s always honest, to the point of being blunt
very realistic and pragmatic, bordering on cynical
good with finances and managing her money, even though her parents are fairly wealthy so she doesn’t really need to be.
